Anya Hindmarch has been disappointing me, lately. It was beginning to seem like she only made canvas tote bags with cheesy prints on them. So, the simplicity and stylishness of this Rosslyn clutch was a nice, and very welcome, surprise.
The color of this clutch instantly attracted me to it. The deep red of the leather is rich and luscious, and its blue undertones are set off nicely by the silver hardware. The rounded off rectangular shape has a soft, casual look that is enhanced by the pleat and seam detail on the front closure.
The design of the Rosslyn is remarkably constrained, particularly when you contrast it to some of her most recent offerings. This new, pared down look is one that will pay off for Hindmarch and her fans, as it is both eye-catching and versatile.
The Rosslyn is one of those clutches that will easily work in the daytime, due to its toned down color and design. The only embellishment is the turnlock closure, and its horizontal geometric styling is a great counterbalance to the verticality of the seam detail.
I’m not completely convinced that the Rosslyn is worth $495, but it is a lovely minimal clutch that will suit a lot of styles. I’ll keep my eyes open for a sale.
