Alexander McQueen has always been known for his over-the-top, elaborate designs. Sometimes they veer to the punk side of things, and sometimes they are just plain old extravagant. This printed canvas tote falls into the latter category.
The trompe l’oeil print on the canvas is really elaborate, but I’m not exactly sure what it is. I think it’s sort of a temple entrance or a tented interior, but I just can’t say for sure. Regardless, the warm gold, pale blue, and royal red color scheme reminds me of Versace’s most popular prints. Unfortunately, while I am usually a giant fan of McQueen’s, this print isn’t really doing anything for me. It’s a little over-the-top, and not in a good way.
The shape of the bag combines with the fabric and the details in sort of an overwhelming way. The shape itself isn’t that complex, but the front pocket with it’s elaborate clasp and silken cord closure certainly is. Frankly the whole thing is just too much for me, and for $925, I expect a lot more nuance.
