Temperley London Duchess Hobo Chain Leather Bag

Temperley London Duchess Hobo Chain Leather BagDear Fashion, I just don’t know why you insist on throwing all these Temperley London bags in my face. Is it some kind of conspiracy? Is the leather treated with some kind of magic substance that seeps into your skin and makes you happy? Because, otherwise, I just don’t see spending this much money on a bag so boring.

I wish I could say that the Duchess is a major improvement on the line’s other designs, but it’s just not.  Even the color is bland and uninspired. It’s a not very rich tan that has been weathered somewhat and then glossed. Instead of looking casually chic, though, which is what this treatment is meant to achieve, it just looks odd.

The shape is fine, an elongated hobo, but all the detail added to the bag makes it look fussy. The scalloped edges on the corner reinforcements are a frilly, stuffy touch that makes the chain embellishment look totally out of place. Not that it would look right anywhere, since it’s oddly placed and hangs so awkwardly.

I just don’t have anything good to say about this bag. For $1,050, I can think of a lot of other things I’d rather buy. Like 1,050 lottery tickets. Or candy bars. Whatever. Anything but this bag.
