Rachana Reddy Padma Purse

Indian designer Rachana Reddy is a graduate of the Cordwainers-London College of Fashion, but her homeland is never far from her mind. Her clutch purses are adorned with the motifs of her birthplace, and carefully handcrafted by the country’s artisans.

The clutch pictured is the Padma, and Rachana Reddy’s signature purse. It shares its name with the Sanskrit word for lotus flower, and this traditional blossom adorns the front of this teak wood clutch. It’s more than just a pretty flower though; the lotus is an Indian symbol of purity, enlightenment, luck, beauty, rebirth, and peace. Surely some of its positive properties will rub off on the girls who carry them then!

Even if the Rachana Reddy purses don’t come complete with the good karma of their traditional accents, it’s hard to resist their clean designs and delicate artistry. All too often we see Indian style purses covered in intricate beading and sequins, so it’s refreshing to find a collection that’s much simpler and more modern.

Rachana Reddy purses are available at selected stores in Indian cities, including Delhi, Chennai, Goa, Mumbai, Pune, and Hyderabad. However you needn’t book your airfare if you’re living elsewhere. The Padma purse is available from the Bottica website, and a Rachana Reddy online store with a more comprehensive collection is on its way!
