Marni Knitted Wool And Cashmere Bag

Marni Knitted Wool And Cashmere BagI feel a little confused about what’s going on with Marni right now. It’s fully summer, but it’s still got fall on the shelves. Is this a case of my confusion about what’s seasonally appropriate or Marni’s? I guess I’ll leave it to you to decide.

This red plaid knitted bag is really a cool idea. As a knitter myself, I’m impressed with the technique. And I love the punk rock plaid, too. It makes what could be sort of a crafty low culture bag into something a bit edgier. But what’s up with the fabric? It’s wool and cashmere, both of which are great for Christmas, but in June? Here in the American south I feel like I couldn’t get within five feet of this bag without getting a heat rash right now.

The shape is pretty simple. Honestly, it has to be, because the stretchiness of the material won’t support much else. In fact, I’m not even sure that it will support this. The bag looks great now, but stuff it full for a few months and that weave might be stretched a bit thin in places. Other than this lack of practicality, the combo of red plaid with the classic frame top is a winning one.

$810 is a pretty reasonable designer price, and while this handbag looks worth it, I’m not sure it will stand the test of time, even in the short term.
