The Swinger hobo from Chinese Laundry has a laid-back, bohemian vibe. It might not take you from day to night for most events, but it's a great choice for accessorizing casual daytime outfits before transitioning to informal date nights.

It's not only the hobo handbag style that contributes to the quintessential boho-chic look. The twisted handle ends on each side with a knot that has several inches of fringe hanging down. The overall result seems like a lot of hippie with a dash of nautical.
