We’ve drooled over Carlos Falchi’s stunning python and ostrich purses from afar for many years, but now the designer’s offering a bag we can all afford. The problem is, I’m just not sure that I want to.
Carlos Falchi flirted with affordability with his line for Target, but this microfiber tote is sold under his own premium brand. It doesn’t seem like it really deserves to be there though. The exotics we knew and loved are gone, replaced instead by a leopard printed microfiber material. Microfiber is of course simply a fancy way of saying PVC. It’s softer than many PVC materials, but it’s still a pretty cheap material.
The chocolate brown animal spots glimmer and gleam in the light. I don’t mind the metallic finish as a novelty, but it’s not very elegant. Betsey Johnson enthusiasts will likely lap it up, but I can’t imagine it finding favor with many Carlos Falchi fans.
Once you get over the jarring shock of the exterior though, it’s not a badly designed shopper. It seems Carlos Falchi and I have different ways of describing size, as this bag’s much larger than I’d expect of a medium bag. But thankfully it’s got plenty of features to make it feel manageable, including pockets and pen holders.
But let’s face it; when it comes to handbags, nobody believes that it’s what’s inside that counts. That’s especially true when a designer charges $220 for said bag. That’s cheap for a Carlos Falchi accessory, but very expensive for a bag made from PVC.
