Temperley London only recently came on the fashion scene and I’m already tired of it. Perhaps it’s just a matter of taste, but I find that all of Temperley’s handbag designs are seriously over-embellished. What is most frustrating is that the bags are essentially cute, but they have so much stuff attached to them that their cuteness is totally obscured. This Aurora bag is exactly what I’m talking about.
The Aurora has a great retro bucket bag shape that’s a little bit 80s and a little bit 90s. The shape is all 80s, especially with the drawstring top, but the chain strap is a definite nod to the 1990s. If this is where the description of the bag stopped, I might be raving about how much I loved the Aurora right now. But I’m not.
I’m not raving right now because Temperley has taken a fabulous bag and plunked a bunch of giant gold studs all over it. It looks like some sort of leather interpretation of a disco ball, and I think it’s just terrible. Imagine how much negative attention you might attract with this bag. Well, since it would be visible from about a mile away, it probably wouldn’t get stolen, which is a plus. But think of how many other things you could buy for $745. Seriously, that’s a weekend in Mexico.
