Mulberry is a British fashion line that creates mostly minimal, fashionable classic pieces. It is definitely a line that is on the way up, as Creative Director, Emma Hill, won the Accessory Designer of the Year Award 2010 at the Glamour “Women of the Year” Awards. The Antony is a good example of Hill’s sleek, chic design sensibility.
Honestly, when I first saw this bag, I didn’t think much of it. There are so many cross-body bags flooding the market that sometimes I barely notice them unless they are obviously spectacular. But, eventually, the subtle elegance of the Antony grew on me, and I can’t help but love it.
This is one practical handbag. The black leather is smooth, durable, and versatile, and the cross-body design is kind of genius because, unlike many cross-body bags that look like shoulder bags with longer straps, the shape and size of the Antony make it both comfortable and attractive to wear this way.
The thick strap on the Antony is part of the reason that the bag comes together so well. It will fit comfortably across the body, and the way the top of the bag is longer at the strap attachments ensures that it will sit well against you.
The great tailored look of the Antony makes it a good daytime choice for carrying around town, and the affordable $395 price tag makes it even more attractive. If the Antony is any evidence of Mulberry’s ascent, I just can’t wait to see more from this line.
