Miu Miu makes cutting edge styles wearable and livens up classic pieces with its quirky sense of style. As a label, it takes a lot of design risks, and like anyone who takes a lot of risks, sometimes it falls short. I’m afraid this crepe metal flower bag is an example of this.
I really like bags made in wool crepe. It has such classic appeal. Well, Miu Miu has certainly turned that notion on its head this time around, as this bag has almost no classic appeal whatsoever. The fabric is great, but the metal cut outs are over the top and, frankly, ridiculous.
The shape is actually quite traditional and ladylike, but Miu Miu has piled so much crap on top of it that you can barely tell. From the flower embellishment to the absurdly oversized clasp, this bag just has way too much going on. I think Miu Miu was shooting for sort of a 60s mod look, but this it definitely misses the mark. Even the patent strap, which ordinarily would add a lovely touch of shine to a wool crepe handbag, looks like an extra unnecessary touch.
I can’t believe the price on this bag either. For $1,695, I could buy groceries for four months, and I certainly won’t be wasting that money on an overdecorated eyesore like this.
