Most of the time, Miu Miu is on the very sharp side of cutting edge fashion. But sometimes it reworks a preppy favorite in a totally unexpected way that unites conservative traditionalism and avant gardism. The horn-strap suede tote is one of those designs.
I don’t remember the last time I saw a brown suede bag that I loved. I’m not really a big fan of brown, anyhow, but I try to be open-minded. The brown of this bag is particularly rich and chocolatey, and the soft, nubbly texture of the suede makes it look extra delicious.
The shape of this bag is a hybrid of sorts, but it’s basically a satchel. The smooth leather patches on the sides and corners give it a quirky kind of conservatism. This is definitely an equestrian-inspired bag, as the elongated handle straps with buckles attest to, and I can really see it working with a horsey Hermes scarf.
The chain link on the strap has a really interesting horn pattern and design, and the prevalence of gold hardware on the bag makes it look expensive, which indeed it is. At $1,395, I won’t be adding this bag to my fashion repertoire, but I will be wishing that I could.
