Oh, Michael Kors, what am I to do with you? Your designs always come so close to being amazing, but miss the mark at just the last minute. This is the way I have always felt about Michael Kors, and unfortunately, this Darrington bag lives up to my low expectations.
The leather treatment on the Darrington Hobo Saddle Bag is the same as on the Darrington Cresent, which I love. It has this great weathered look that is both black and dark brown at the same time. This is definitely one of those bags that you don’t have to worry about nicking up. The work’s been done for you!
The shape of this version of the Darrington is also pretty great. Although it’s described as a hobo, it’s pretty square for a bag of this kind. It really is more of a saddle bag. I love all the front pockets and the flap closure, with its multiple straps and buckles.
So, what, exactly, is it that I find disappointing about the Darrington? It’s the hardware. It’s just too bright for a bag this weathered. The contrast, which might be interesting in another context, just looks ill-chosen and cheap. Plus, there’s just a little too much of it. A buckle doesn’t really need three strap holders, does it?
