You’ve got to admire Marni and the altruism behind this whimsical shopping bag. It’s part of a collection released to support the Children’s Imaginary World, a project which helps to support children living on the streets of Brazil, Colombia, Guatemala, Tibet, India, and Sierra Leone.
The colorful drawing featured on this bag was one of many submitted in response to Marni’s challenge posed to child artists around the world. They were asked to create their fantasy world. How poignant that this child’s ultimate wish is for a house.
With such power behind this simple design and simple bag, it becomes difficult to be too critical of it. Yes this is a world away from high fashion. Yes it’s not on trend. But at the end of the day, these criticisms seem pretty superficial.
I’d probably use this Marni shopper for carrying my groceries, so I suppose that makes the $150 price tag seem quite expensive. It may be the priciest shopper you’ll buy, but at least you know this money will go to children in need.
