When I reviewed the original Hillier bag, all I wanted was for it to be slightly less expensive so that I could buy it. Well, this is one of those “be careful what you wish for” situations. I got a lower price tag, but this really isn’t what I wanted.
The problem with the new version of the Hillier is the material. The original was a nice supple leather. This one is done in PVC, which just doesn’t hold the style well at all. The pleating at the top looks more like wrinkling, and the bottom of the bag bulges out weirdly. ick.
The overall shape of the Hillier is still cool. It’s a subtly structured hobo with a lot of versatility. But, unfortunately, it just looks cheap. The gold hardware does absolutely nothing to enhance the class factor, either. I’m sorely disappointed.
At $280, the Hillier is reasonably priced, but it’s so unattractive that I just can’t be bothered to care.
