Foley + Corinna is quickly becoming a celebrity favorite with their retro-inspired line of reasonably priced, high quality handbags. With the Bender, F+C add another hippielicious choice to their growing line.
The bohemian 70’s aesthetic of the Bender combines beautifully with its modern practicality. The triangular shape of the bag, with its heavy flat bottom and slim top, is striking and original. I love the stitch detail on the front of the Bender and the way it expands to allow room for all of your favorite things. At 14″ x 16″ x 6″, it meets the oversized bag trend with retro flair.
The top flap closes with a turnlock, and opens onto a zipper to the main compartment. The interior includes an organizational pocket, but to be truthful, given the size and shape of the Bender, it isn’t really adequate. Things tend to fall to the flat bottom of the bag, leaving you searching endlessly for your lipbalm.
Another drawback of the bag is the relatively short drop of the handles. At 6″, they do fit over the shoulder, but the top of the bag rests right up in the armpit, making it uncomfortable to carry. The multiple closure top also makes getting into the Bender a two-handed operation, which is just not ideal if you need to get to your keys or subway card quickly. Taking those aspects of the bag into account, it is really best carried by hand, but we all know how heavy a handheld bag can be when filled to the top, especially one of this size.
The best part of the bag is the high quality of the cowhide. It is heavy and durable, and will not only hold up to years of wear, but will only get better looking with age. The suppleness of the leather could also mean that the handles will wear in to accommodate you. So, while the Bender will look great from day one, it may take a little breaking in to become your favorite everyday bag.
