Diane von Furstenberg’s bohemian chic has a well-worn groove in a lot of women’s hearts. To be honest, although I respect her style, it’s not my own, so I don’t really go for a lot of her pieces. But this Maribelle hobo is literally one of the most interesting bags I’ve seen all season, and I’m beginning to see the DVF light.
The treatment on the Maribelle’s black leather is somewhat crinkled or wrinkled. On another bag the approach might look a little messy, but on the Maribelle, it works out perfectly. The crinkles sort of mimic the pleating on the bag in a way that enhances the whole look. And, what about that pleating? It’s so perfect. It’s asymmetrical and geometrical, but still manages to look soft at the same time.
The shape of the Maribelle is also spot on. It has all the casual flair of a hobo, but the studded, structured sides keep it upright. The braid and grommet detail on the strap is amazing, and it pulls the bag together in a beautifully tough way. $695 is a totally reasonable price to pay for this new urban essential.
