Betsey Johnson is never a designer to do things by halves. With this Slither Around barrel bag from her Betseyville line, Betsey delivers a handbag that’s big and bold. Whether it’s beautiful though is really a matter of personal taste!
This barrel bag is crafted from transparent PVC marked with a mottled black snakeskin print. Clear plastic can often look tacky, but I think it’s cleverly used here. The transparent finish allows the colored fabric underneath to poke through. Here we see just a hint of reptilian lime green, but there are also hot pink and black alternatives.
Of course, anyone who knows Betsey knows this gentle use of color is the only thing subtle about the Slither Around! A shiny silver nameplate is centered between two patent stripes dotted with pyramid studs. This same black shiny fabric is used for the rolled handles and platform base.
Even if the Slither Around isn’t to your tastes, you should find something to like inside. The interior is fully lined and spacious, offering enough space for essentials and luxuries besides. One wall has a large zippered pocket, while the other has a couple of open pouches for gadgets.
