Phillip Lim isn’t one of the best known designers out there, but his minimal influence can be seen throughout the fashion kingdom. This Pashli shark effect tote really shows off his clean aesthetic.
I don’t really understand what “shark effect” means in terms of this material. It’s a beautifully textured black leather, but there’s nothing particularly aquatic or predatory about it. It doesn’t really look like shark skin is what I’m trying to say, but it’s a lovely leather nonetheless.
The design of the Pashli is a standout. It’s always impressive when a designer can reinvigorate a traditional style, and what’s more traditional than a tote? This tote, however, is different. While it utilizes the usual tote shape, it makes it look totally tailored and new. The flap top closure is a start, and the long zippered pockets on the front accentuate the lines of the bag and add an edgy little touch.
With Lim, most of the beauty is found in the details, and the details on the Pashli are just perfect. The patch reinforcements on the bottom are a cool and utilitarian touch, and the slick lock closure is a great modern touch. The Pashli is a versatile everyday bag that will stay cool for eons.
