Proenza Schouler Book Bag

Proenza Schouler Book BagJust as I was bemoaning the lack of stylish knitted handbags, several have come out of the woodwork. If the cheap and cheerful approach of Pilar Abril’s Sixta left you longing for something more luxurious, fix your eyes on Proenza Schouler’s Book Bag.

Despite its fairly unassuming name, this Book Bag is big on style. Its body is made from rich black, merlot, green, and blue wool tightly knitted to create a Navajo style pattern. This tribal print is taken out of Africa with calf hair and leather trim. In some ways it’s a bit disappointing to see luxury labels using the designs of the world’s poorer nations to line their already deep pockets, but I can’t deny this purse looks smart.

The bag’s title promises practicality and Proenza Schouler delivers. This satchel has two large compartments, so there’s plenty of space for stashing text books and note pads. Open and zippered pockets help keep your smaller items organized. The strap’s on the skinny side, but it’s made of such quality leather that it shouldn’t fail us.

With this Proenza Schouler bag priced at $1525, I can’t imagine it appealing to students or interns. That’s a bit disappointing for a bag promising to carry books so well, although I’m sure it’ll find a market amongst trend conscious luxury lovers.
