Chocolate City Flap Clutch | Metal Studded Pink Synthetic Purse

Edgy metal studs are one of the biggest trends of the season. But it seems Chocolate took the style writers at their word when it created the City Flap Clutch.

Whether it's right on trend or overdosing, you'll have to decide yourself. There is an awful lot of metal there, but it doesn't look quite as tacky as this number of rhinestones or sequins might. I don't even mind the loudest combination of silver and hot pink, although conservatives may prefer the darker than dark purple or steely gray.

Chocolate seems to keep the design in check by favoring a traditional approach. The simple rectangular shape with its large flap allows the contemporary metal to take center stage. Ordinarily I'd want to see embellishments on the back too, but more studs may have pushed the City Flap Clutch over the edge. The simple zippered pocket is a far more appealing, and practical, addition.

There isn't a lot of space to spare inside, with the city Flap Clutch appearing a little more like a wallet than a traditional evening bag. That won't worry girls who like to travel light with just their cash and cards, but packrats may struggle. If you fall into that latter category but still like the look, I suggest stashing the purse inside a larger tote.

Prezzo Flower Shop Handbag | Fun Affordable Black Embroidered Fabric Purse

Most Prezzo purses I've spotted are strictly after five affairs, with polished patent leathers, glittering sequins, and plenty of flair. So this Flower Shop handbag from the brand really comes out of left field.

This purse reminds me of a Radley bag, with its embroidered flower shop and playful personality. The vibrant thread contrasts with its black fabric background, ensuring the design really pops. It may not have the sequins and sass of many Prezzo purses, but a shrinking violet it is not.

Of course, that embroidered pattern is sure to polarize bagistas. Many will love its whimsical, almost Parisian look, while others will consider it juvenile and without charm. If you fall into the former camp, the design isn't likely to change your mind. Many fabric bags forget the features, but this isn’t one of them. There's a zippered pocket on the back, and another one inside. There's also a slip pouch which is perfect for holding your cell. A zip top closure keeps everything safe and sound.

For a mere $14.99, this is a fun bag for a trip to the farmers' markets or a picnic. It won't go with everything, or suit every occasion, but for that price I'm willing to overlook those limitation.

Santi Blake Clutch | Sequined Handbag with Black and Silver Pattern

With the winter holiday season rapidly approaching, it's time to start thinking about the perfect party accessories. Glittery clutches are always appropriate for dressy holiday events, and any of Santi's options are sure to make a statement.

This Santi Blake clutch, with its black and silver pattern and shimmering body, reminds me quite a bit of the Whiting & Davis Chevron Jelly Roll bag. Although Whiting & Davis's creation is made from metal mesh and Santi favors sequins and satin, the patterns on the two handbags are strikingly similar.

I'm not sure that sequins are the best option since they aren't known for being particularly sturdy. The metal mesh on the Chevron Jelly Roll might be a better option for durability. However, Santi's clutches aren't cheaply made, and the Blake will most likely hold up just fine with light use during special events.

Although slim in design, this Santi bag is a decent size for a party clutch since bare necessities are all that's required. There's even a handy optional chain strap that tucks in neatly when not in use. I prefer the look of this sequined clutch without the strap, but it's nice to have the option available.

La Regale Antique Tapestry Purse | Beaded Gold Floral Vintage Bag

Unless you told me that this was a La Regale handbag, I'd never have known. The brand normally favors minimalist, classic designs, but this vintage purse offers something else!

Traditional embroidery works with glitzy colored beads and sequins to create this tapestry design. The floral motif reminds me of the kind of pattern you might spot on a cushion in your grandmother's sitting room. That does make it authentically vintage I suppose, but I prefer my old-world fashions to be a little more rooted in modern styles. This busy design looks a little stodgy to me.

The antique appearance is only emphasized by the colored beads which form the dual handles. If it was your cup of Earl Grey, I suppose you'll like the extra splash of vintage. For me it's simply too much, not to mention a little impractical.

If you've fallen for the look, the interior isn't likely to change your mind. The satiny lining is lush, and the handy pocket for cards and cash is a little more than we might expect in an evening bag. You'll also find enough space for your lipstick, and a compact for powdering your nose!

I worry about beads and sequins going astray in time, but at least this La Regale evening purse won't break the bank. At $80 retail, this La Regale offers something a little different for vintage fashion fans.

With bold triangles of black, silver and deep pewter mesh, the color scheme of this metal purse is simple enough to go with almost any outfit. That said this envelope clutch certainly isn't dull, with a glam and edgy rock chic vibe from one glimmering corner to the next.

Perfect for trends at the moment, this Whiting & Davis clutch will work brilliantly with the 80s fashion sweeping the catwalk, coordinating with sequins and glitz as much as it does with plain fabric or velvet dresses. The designers have even carried on the theme with the optional chunky chain handle that avoids the trap of being too thick or too thin.

The geometric shape design of this elegant purse conceals a crafty and admirable secret - additional compartments! Hidden under the second triangle, in silver, is a second compartment perfect for yet more of those bits and pieces that are the prerequisite for a girly handbag!

I have having trouble finding flaws with this purse. As always I personally prefer fabric or leather handles to chain, but that just wouldn't look right. The square shape means expandability is at a minimum, but as a funky rock-chick evening bag you won't have a problem! This is a lovely purse from an elegant and respected designer!

Ashley M Bow Tie Evening Bag | Fun Pink Sequined Party Purse

Ashley M is one of those rare fashion labels which doesn't take itself too seriously. Its accessories are unashamedly cheap and cheerful, flights of fancy that favor fun over chic styling.

That's definitely the case with this bow tie purse. It's not intended to suit a red carpet occasion or night at the theater. It's much more at home at a retro party or loud karaoke night with girls.

Its large sequins and even bigger bow all scream "look at me!" There’s nothing shy or retiring about this combination. The shoulder strap could be a little longer, but I'm thankful for its soft satin finish. It's the kind of strap that knows girls tend to show bare shoulders on a night out!

This fuschia purse is the brightest and boldest bow tie bag. Black, wine, and olive green are much more subdued. But I figure if you're going to carry a bag covered in sequins and a great big bow, why not go all the way?

This Ashley M purse isn't the height of fashion, but it's not trying to be. For just $30, it's a fun accessory for those nights when you want to let your hair down.

Marc Jacobs Sequined Frame Wallet Purse | Sparkly Fuchsia Designer Purse With Gold Stud Detail

Marc Jacobs, king of the West Village, oh how many Carrie Bradshaw wannabes he has spawned. Personally, I think the man's a genius, and one of the few American designers to make others across the Atlantic take notice. But, this bag has got to go.

It's a lot more Elle Woods than Carrie Bradshaw, and I do not mean that as a compliment. Seriously, it looks like Juicy Couture. On a a bad day. The combination of hot pink sequins and the loosely fastened gold pyramid studs looks cheap and haphazard, and while I guess the attached leather wallet is practical, the rest of the bag completely distracts from it.

$595 for this baby. No, I'm not joking. It's on the low end, price-wise, of Mr. Jacobs' designs, as well it should be, but it still seems high for something that looks so cheesy. It looks like the design team shook up a bunch of bag trends - 80's styles, pyramid studs - and out came this monstrosity.

This is really a first for me, as I can't think of a single nice thing to say about this Marc Jacobs bag. Except that maybe he'll just pull it from the shelves ASAP and we can pretend it was just a bad dream.

This fun Global Elements skirt purse is something dramatically different for this party season.

The floaty, flirty skirt shape is effortlessly eye-catching. The billowing body is offset by thousands of rainbow colored sequins and beads. I love the look, but I'm a little nervous about what will happen once the bag is full of your evening essentials. You'll probably need to pare back the party gear if you hope to retain that lovely flowing form.

I imagine the inside pockets will help the skirt purse keep its shape. By stashing your goodies in the wall pouches, you'll stop the base sinking down. If you're not too concerned about the shape, the skirt purse has an awful lot of space so you could easily take it from day to night. Although you're going to struggle to retrieve anything from those pointed corners!

I don't like to spend a lot of money on my after-five accessories, so I think this skirt purse is perfectly priced. The $48 retail value seems a steal for a bag with such a unique look.

Evans Sequin Leopard Bag | Large Loud Inexpensive Synthetic Party Purse

There's absolutely nothing subtle about this leopard bag from Evans.

Leopard print rarely fades into the background, but for some reason Evans thought it wasn't loud enough. So the label has covered this handbag is sequins for that extra bit of sparkle. The glitz doesn't stop there, with shiny metal studs and rings near the handles upping the oomph. As if this purse needed the extra pizzazz!

To keep the price down to just £35, Evans had to make a few sacrifices. The finish is a less than glamorous synthetic, and the interior is spacious but basic. Such a large space really calls for plenty of pockets, but you won't find them here.

But something tells me those who love this leopard bag won't care too much. It goes without saying that this isn't a purse for everyone. For most fashionistas, its bedazzling exterior will be too outrageous. But if you've got the right confidence and charisma, carrying this purse is one way to make a big impression!

Miracle Oyster Beaded Clutch | Feminine and Retro Affordable Purse

I always feel a sense of pride when I come across a lovely design in a handbag that doesn't cost the earth. With this delicate purse from Miracle, you can get unusual retro looks for the bargain basement price of $26.

As with most cheap and cheerful clutches, the beading and sequins on this clam shaped purse are likely to fall off more easily than with high-end brands. That aside, however, the delicate beaded design is quite charming to look at, with teardrop mother of pearl oyster shell dangling gently at the bottom, and the more lightweight glittery sequins gracing the top.

Perhaps my favourite feature is the contrasting circular wooden handles, which really stand out against the off-white fabric of the clutches exterior, and the brilliant white interior. Firstly the dark against the oyster is very aesthetically pleasing, and second the whole design reminds me of retro purses and 50s/60's fashion.

Whilst the design may actually be slightly impractical (have you ever tried carrying a bag with handles like this for hours at a time?), a little pain suffered for such a looker is a small price to pay. Good looking, unusal and affordable - this bag is great for keeping you going through the coming party season.
