Be & D generally has the market cornered on ultra-feminine, luxury designer handbags, in my opinion. The girly ruffles of the chic and expensive Chatterley and Kan Kan purses are proof of that.

I suppose that signature style is why I could hardly believe that this brown, somewhat bohemian-looking bag came from Be & D. It's just not what I typically expect to see from the label. Perhaps I shouldn't have been surprised by the style, though, since it turns out to be very similar to the Cosette Hobo. Either way, it's a welcome change.

Instead of frilly and elegant ruffles, the Catalina Hobo boasts an intricate pattern of woven brown and ivory leather. The result is unique and eyecatching yet somehow simple when paired with solid panels flanking either side of the patterned section.

Lest we mistake the Catalina for the design of another brand, Be & D made sure to add a hint of ruffling to the handles for a slightly feminine touch. Ruching is probably a more accurate description of the feature since it can hardly be compared to the more ostentatious and obvious ruffling of the Kan Kan.   

True to its luxury label pricing, the Catalina retails for a whopping $1,580, which is sure to be out of reach for many budgets. For a much more affordable boho-style hobo bag, you might try the Jessica Simpson Dreamcatcher instead.

Oroton has reinvented the hobo bag with the Mallorca. The slouchy style and bohemian vibe are gone, replaced with structure and sleek styling.

In fact, calling it a hobo may be a bit of a misnomer. I suppose the shape resembles the traditional crescent with its round corners, but it's nowhere near as obvious as Jessica Simpson's Dreamcatcher Macrame hobo, or Christian Dior's Diorita. Instead the design is clean and chic, making the Mallorca entirely appropriate for trips to the office or an evening out.

There's little in the way of embellishments, with a simple piped design the only thing to break up the shrunken pebble leather finish. The elegant pattern emphasizes the purse's shape, drawing attention to its sexy curves.

A leather zipper pull offers easy access to your girly goodies. They're all kept organized thanks to the cleverly designed interior, which features a zippered compartment on one side wall and a couple of slip pouches on the other.

This perspex purple shade is surprising, yet conservative all at the same time. The Mallorca is also available in cedar brown and black. The shades don't push many boundaries, just like the Majorca's design. It might be a different kind of hobo, but it's not one likely to call attention to itself. That might suit girls who like to follow the pack, but more daring purse lovers may prefer to look elsewhere.

When I think of macrame handbags, Jessica Simpson's brand definitely does not come to mind. Her looks are generally semi-casual everyday to formal, whereas macrame is the epitome of uber-casual, wear-with-flip-flops kind of style.

The material is something I would expect to see on a Lucky Brand bag like the Diana Shopper, which actually isn't a far cry from this uncharacteristically bohemian-like Jessica Simpson Dreamcatcher Hobo. One of the main differences between the two styles is the lack of leather on the Dreamcatcher. While the Diana has a large leather body, the Jessica Simpson hobo has manmade trim and synthetic leather material under the macrame.

I'm a little disappointed that the lack of real leather on this casual handbag didn't help to keep the price under $100. However, it's not entirely surprising considering other synthetic options that the brand offers also exceeding that mark.

The Dreamcatcher is available in two colors, this blue denim and a tangerine orange. On both hobos, the main color comes from the leather-like material underneath the woven macrame, which has a slight tie-dye effect. A single twisted handle adds to the laid-back feel of this Jessica Simpson handbag.
