OK, so at first glance this Versace bag looks like a bulky yet formal satchel. Versace, however, believe that the convertible element should be more than enough to convince you to like it!

Whether you need a smart compact backpack, a spacious tote or a functional overnight bag, this purse should suit the purpose. It isn't particularly simple to convert, but once done the black leather handbags are useful and reasonably good looking.

Unfortunately the combination of large faux crocodile skin and gathered sides mean that much of the time this 4 in 1 purse looks a little chaotic; elegance and sleek structure are not really in its repertoire. For those who long for something slouchy and casual yet designer, however, then this will be right on the money.

All in all this is a functional handbag inside and out. I wouldn't be happy to pay the original price of over $1000 for it, but at $399 on sale I can understand that those multiple handles will be handy!

Maxx New York Garbo Tote | Large Faux Patent Leather Handbag

There's the Ava and the Hepburn, and now another of Maxx New York's other designs seemingly named after stylish silver screen stars of the past: the Garbo.

Like the other sophisticated handbags, the Garbo tote is a pretty blend of classic chic and contemporary. The inverted shape and sophisticated touches such as rolled handles and gold-toned hardware speak to the vintage-like appeal of the bag, but other details make it modern.

For one, the crinkled texture of the manmade material reminds me a bit of Matt & Nat's signature Japanese Paper faux leather that always looks so hip and urban. The Garbo kicks it up a notch with a very shiny patent effect. Other features like the folded down flaps on the top corners and zippered pouches on each side also add to the vibe.

The Garbo comes in two sizes, this somewhat oversized version and a smaller tote, and is available in this rich burgundy wine color as well as versatile black and brown. This Maxx New York design regularly retails for $195, though it can currently be found on sale at Amazon for less.

Jessica Simpson is not, by any means, the only one that's churning out the faux exotic skin purses, but the brand definitely has quite a few styles in this very of-the-moment trend. Animal activists and budget shoppers can celebrate together about the plethora of fake crocodile and snakeskin flushing the market right now.

This Sasha Satchel from Jessica Simpson's handbag line is a prime example of the affordable feature working on several different levels. Not only does the price sit well for most, ringing in at just barely over $100, but the simplicity of the design will appeal to many women who prefer the classic style of famous croc-users such as Hermes.

For the most part, the Sasha is tastefully devoid of superfluous details that would compete with the handbag's visually interesting texture. Except for a few pieces of hardware and a little buckled detail on the handles, this purse is mostly about the material.

You might be wondering about the miniature pouch hanging down from one of the Sasha's handles. However, this bonus feature is removable allowing you to use it for extra storage inside the bag or separately.

Necessary Objects Eden Clutch | Affordable Exotic Embossed Synthetic Patchwork Evening Purse

They say you should fake it until you make it. If your salary won't stretch to accommodate authentic snakeskin or crocodile, this embossed Necessary Objects clutch is a charming substitute.

Synthetic isn't the most opulent material, but I love the way it's been used here. I've seen embossed leather look far less convincing. The combination of snake and croc scales, not to mention mattes and metallics, could easily look tacky. But the complementary colors save it, creating interest without overwhelming. This olive green, pewter, and silver purse is my favorite, but there are a few more combos if this one doesn't suit.

Pop open the magnetic snap to reveal the playful spotted fabric lining. It's a fairly basic space, but its length is worth mentioning. This allows you to carry a little more than most clutches might, although bulky items are definitely out. You probably won't need your wallet though with a slip pocket tailor-made for carrying your cards. Add a small coin purse and you're good to go.

I'd love to see a shoulder strap for those long nights out, but I'm not surprised there isn't one. Brands can't give us the world for a mere $25 after all.

Carlos Falchi Box Clutch | Shiny Anaconda Snakeskin Handbag

Carlos Falchi might be getting ready to see the release of an affordable line of faux snakeskin handbags at Target, but that doesn't mean that the designer isn't still churning out other designs made from the real deal.

For genuine anaconda snakeskin leather from a designer label, I'm actually not completely aghast at the Carlos Falchi Box Clutch's price tag of $595. Honestly, I wouldn't have been shocked to see it a bit higher. That doesn't, however, lessen its designer quality or appeal. It is a Carlos Falchi, after all.

The exotic skin is a signature of the label, and snakeskin seems to be a particular favorite. Similar to the Flat Python Clutch, this Box Clutch has no surprising features or unexpected details besides the unique texture. It's a typical size for a small clutch bag, has simple, clean lines, and is altogether classy.

There's just a little something about the scaly skin that kind of makes me go ick, but that certainly wouldn't deter me from carrying around this little luxury bag. If anaconda doesn't do it for you, there are other options for the Box Clutch style. For about twice the price, you can get this Carlos Falchi design in ostrich or crocodile.

Melie Bianco S9-96 Shoulder Bag | Purple Synthetic Leather Tote

I'm a little thrown off by the name of this Melie Bianco handbag. In a list of other style choices like the Franny, Ramona, and the descriptive Croco Envelope Bag, this technical sounding S9-96 Shoulder Bag seems a little out of place. However, the design is synonymous with the brand's classic and often designer-inspired look.

There aren't many frills on this shoulder bag, but the simple details make it something worth considering. Pretty contrast stitching around the entire handbag accentuates the shape and adds a little visual interest. I'm not always a fan of light stitching against a darker background or vice versa, but it's a nice touch on the S9-96.

The classic tote shape has been ramped up a bit with panels of gathered fabric on the front and bag of the purse. It's no shock that the material is not real leather since this shoulder bag only retails for $90, but the trendy lilac purple is enough of a stand-out to make up for the faux fabric. The fun satin polka dot lining, a signature twist from Melie Bianco, adds a little extra personality to the S9-96.

Necessary Objects Rocco Clutch | Synthetic Bag with Mix of Faux Exotic Textures

If you're shopping for handbags in the under-$50 price range, chances are that you're not expecting real leather. When we're talking about exotic skins like python and crocodile, it's a guarantee that the texture will be embossed or created.

That's why it will probably be no surprise to anyone that this $42 clutch from Necessary Objects is entirely synthetic. What might be unexpected, though, is the amount of faux textures that this one little clutch contains.

I can pick out at least three separate embossed exotic skins on the Rocco Clutch. Snakeskins and croc take on individual roles each in their own color. This version of the clutch features the textures in two distinct colors of blue with dark brown trim. The blend of tones is appealing but also helps to bring together three different voices in the skins, which could otherwise be a disaster.

The handbag has an optional chain and synthetic strap that can be tucked inside when not in use. Personally, I dislike the shiny silver chain link next to the already busy surface of the clutch, but there are times when it would come in handy.

Jessica Simpson Downtown Tote | Faux Leather Handbag with Studs and Detachable Strap

This Jessica Simpson handbag design is a simple but interesting change of pace from a brand that can sometimes includes a few too many trends on one purse, in my opinion.

Granted, I have appreciated a few of Simpson's recent releases, such as the Jimmy Satchel and the Runway Tote. Now this Downtown Tote can now go on my somewhat short list of Jessica Simpson successes. It isn't the most stunning of handbag designs, but there's a certain appeal to its shape and texture that makes it a little unique.

The tote definitely has a downtown feel with its contemporary quartet of square studs on both sides and slightly square silhouette. There's just a hint of a slouch to the shape due to some soft pleating but not enough to give it a truly relaxed appearance. It's a nice mix of slightly structured and a little casual.

The Downtown handbag is, of course, faux leather like most of Jessica Simspon's purses. However, this one has a series of vertical lines or slashes that cover the material to add some visual interest and break up the synthetic look.

The double handles are rather short for the vertical shape of this tote and not exactly the most practical choice. Thankfully, the brand provided an optional longer strap for more convenience. As with other Jessica Simpson styles, I'm not entirely sure if this faux leather purse is worth its price tag, this one retailing for $118, but it does have some nice qualities that make it worth at least considering.

Ranch Long Hair Mink Hobo | Oversized Luxury Fur Purse

There are some things that are OK in modern society, and some things that aren't. Leather, for the majority of the market, is OK. In a similar vein, eel skin shoes and handbags are acceptable to modern values, whereas fur ... fur is not. With so many alternatives for real fur, many of which are just as soft, it is generally considered pretty bad form to opt for fur over faux.

Don't get me wrong. I am aware that fur is soft, and luxurious, and comfy. This ranch mink hobo isn't stylish, but it is a status symbol for those who rank fur above all else, and who treasure its expensive form. I can even understand the acceptance of old fur before anyone knew better, which does seem to make sense. New fur, however, doesn't fit in here.

Of all the people on the fashion circuit, however, the most frequently seen faces are that of the PETA activists and animal rights campaigners. Not only would a mink handbag give them a heart attack, but it doesn't go down well with the fashion community.

All in all, even if this mink handbag was the most beautiful handbag in the world, and not a strange lumpy behemoth, it simply doesn't make sense to spend nearly $800 on something that could be bought much cheaper minus the fur.

Jessica Simpson Jimmy Satchel | Patchwork Faux Croc Handbag

Jessica Simpson is sometimes hit or miss with me. There aren't many of the brand's styles that I absolutely detest, but I'm not always in love with them either. This Jimmy satchel takes a turn for the better as far as my opinion goes.

Yet again, you can't expect anything even remotely close to real croc leather or something that's a superb imitation when you're paying Jessica Simpson prices. This satchel is only $108, so there's no mistaking it for the real deal. However, people paying in this price range wouldn't expect it and probably wouldn't be disappointed by what they get.

With this interesting patchwork of faux croc textures and colors, I'm not particularly distracted by the fake material, though. The mix of neutral browns with a pop of this season's trendy purple color is very appealing to the eye. The colors work well together to create a versatile handbag despite the fact that purple is anything but a neutral by most standards.

What stood out to me as missing on this bag is the signature Jessica Simpson cursive logo sewn on the bottom panel. What's there in place of it is a J-shaped piece of hardware that actually functions as the Jimmy satchel's clasp closure. It was unexpected to me and quite clever. If I didn't know that this is a Jessica Simpson design, I probably wouldn't have ever noticed that it is shaped like the letter. Kudos to the brand for a little originality.
