Inge Christopher Metal Mesh Clutch | Spacious Medieval Style Purse

Inge Christopher takes the idea of mesh purses back to its medieval roots, with this wide spaced chain-link clutch.

Visually, this clutch is edgy and quite stunning. The metal is bigger and more dramatic than most mesh purses, in a stunning old-fashioned pewter metal shade. This chunky mesh is then in stark contrast to the luxury mesh strap, where the weave is much tighter and more elegant. Together they make a lovely contrast and emphasize the always luxurious materials of Inge Christopher purses.

Thankfully, you don't have to use the handle if you don't want to, and can use this purse as a clutch to accompany an elegant evening dress, or even to wear in contrast with biker leather and studs. Either way, this versatile purse can be delicate or bold depending upon what you wear it with.

That said, metal bags are somewhat limiting; they tend to be less comfy to carry and are a real nuisance when going though metal detectors! Even with that, however, and this purse actually has very little to complain about, from the spacious slouchy interior to the beautiful looks.

Stella McCartney Chain Detail Hobo | Grunge Rock Chic Slouchy Black Faux Leather Hobo

Stella McCartney is one of those rare fashion designers who puts her morals where her mouth is. She is a militant vegan, and none of her designs use any animal products or even any PVC-based synthetics. All her designs are made from eco-friendly and totally plant-based materials. And, they're also amazing.

I'm basically swooning for this faux leather hobo. I love the super slouchiness of the shape edged totally in industrial looking chain. It's the epitome of rocker chic, without a bunch of crap piled on top of it. The clean lines of the bag are totally unmuddied with ornamentation.

The faux leather material has an interesting sheen to it that makes it look almost metallic, which sets off the silver in the hardware perfectly. The shape is a little square for a hobo, but I like that, because it means none of that endless searching for things in crescent shaped corners.

There's also a cute little change purse attached to the inside with the same industrial chain, which, honestly, is a necessity in a bag that is so slouchy. How else are you going to keep your parking coins in one place?

The only thing I don't love about this bag is the price. For $1,145, I want leather. I know that it's not being leather is the point, but, seriously, that's a high price to pay for faux.

Bally Joletta Shoulder Bag | Leather Hobo with Chainlink and Zippered Detail

Although the Bally Joletta handbag looks like a simple hobo at first glance, there are some first-rate details on it that make it worth your consideration.

The Joletta's impressive quality comes with a hefty price tag, however, as you might expect from the brand. While a $1,165 retail price will probably keep many shoppers away, those who are looking in the designer handbag range might find it reasonable for what you get.

For practical gals like me who prefer overall versatility for purchases of that degree, you won't likely be disappointed in what you get here. While there's nothing particularly stunning about this Bally bag, it's sure to go with just about any everyday outfit you pull out of your closet and hold up to lots of wear and tear. That's something worthy of a little extra cash.

The Joletta isn't completely devoid of personality, though. If I had to classify it, I'd say it's clean and contemporary with an edgy twist. The smooth calfskin leather is sleek and classy, but the extra features add some spark. Its angled, zippered pockets on the front and chainlink on the shoulder strap lend just a hint of rock-and-roll, while little bits of braided texture on the top of the strap and zipper pulls keep the look from going too far.

In some ways, the Joletta handbag reminds me of the Marc by Marc Jacobs Strippy Zippy, but Bally's version of the black hobo is a tad more sophisticated. Whether that makes it more deserving of its higher price tag is for you to decide.

Lanvin Mini Pop Bag | Fabulous Candy Colored Sleek Satin Shoulder Bag

Lanvin is one the oldest couture houses, and as such, it has been outfitting the richest and most fabulous of the elite for more than a century. Its purebred roots result in designs that will remain as chic and timeless a hundred years from now as they were a hundred years ago.

This satin Pop shoulder bag would make a perfectly confectionary addition to any ensemble. It is the very definition of understated: simple and unfussy, but with gorgeous, swoon-worthy details.

The color itself is a mouthwatering watermelon-y coral red. The fabric is the highest quality satin with a soft sheen and a smooth hand. I love the contrast between the supple softness of the fabric and the hard, structured look of the hardware. The clasp is particularly engrossing. Made of metal and acrylic, it adds a modern touch to this timeless classic.

The dainty, feminine chainlink straps add a hint of sparkle and a touch of glam. Although I usually don't go in for logos, the meticulously crafted Lanvin coins attached to the strap are gorgeous in and of themselves. Lots of labels could take a cue here, and think of their logos as works of art, rather than as abstract and unaesthetic branding devices meant to be mindlessly stamped on canvas.

This shoulder bag is chic and versatile. It would be lovely for day with jeans and a sophisticated cardigan, but would also be great for a pretty serious evening of dress up. The only drawback of this bag, as far as I can tell, is the price. At $850, this lovely bag by the age-old couture house just isn't in my stratosphere.

Betsey Johnson Tie-Breaker Flap Tote | Embellished Ivory Leather Handbag with Gold Trim

When it comes to details, Betsey Johnson seems to tend toward the idea of the more, the merrier. The designer's handbags are always meant to stand out in a crowd and make a bold statement.

This Tie-Breaker Flap Tote does just that with its abundance of embellishments and bold color choices. Though I wouldn't call ivory a dramatic color by any means, it becomes more than basic when paired with several bright gold details. With everything from gold trim to chainlink, this handbag is anything but understated.

Of course, Betsey Johnson wouldn't just have this color combo as your only option. The Tie-Breaker comes in a two other choices, even bolder than this one. The tote is also available in gray with orange trim or black with hot pink. Any of the options will make a statement, but the ivory is probably the most versatile for a wardrobe.

The simplicity of this color combination is pretty, and the brightness of the gold color makes the details more noticeable. There are quite a few to notice, too. The two exterior side pockets are cinched with a bow-tie. The front flap displays the signature logo and is accentuated with a gold zipper. Last, but not least, the double leather handles are woven through chain link nearly all the way to the top.

This Betsey Johnson Tie-Breaker Flap Tote retails for $295. Look for the style in a larger satchel, hobo, and vertical tote as well.

SR Squared by Sondra Roberts Patchwork Linen Satchel | Colorful Handbag with Chain Handle

Few materials say warm weather quite like linen. The light, breezy fabric is ideal for sunny spring and summer days. However, I have my doubts when the texture is bogged down with too much color or other details.

For instance, this SR Squared by Sondra Roberts Patchwork Linen Satchel is a tad overdone, in my opinion. I couldn't even tell at first glance that the material was linen. Though it's very similar to the Lucky Brand Patchwork Tote, somehow the look works better on the Lucky bag's suede. Personally, I prefer summertime linen in a natural-looking form without too much going on to compete with the texture.
 
Splashes of color on patchwork handbags can look great. However, the number of colors combined on this purse is slightly overwhelming even with a few muted hues thrown in. Also, it seems that everything on this Sondra Roberts bag has a metallic sheen to it, from the linen patches to the gold-tone chainlink strap.
 
One plus of the patchwork linen satchel, though, is that its lack of leather has kept the price down to only $85. This style of handbag offers plenty of roomy inside to carry things around as well, even if there isn't a bottom panel for support when setting it down.
 
If bold, shiny, and bright is what you're going for, this SR Squared satchel is a great option. If you love the patchwork and chain combo but prefer something less colorful, try the B. Makowsky Cairo Shopper instead.
