Marc Jacobs have gone for industrial functional looks with this simple leather bowler.

In saffron colored leather, this is a purse without any embellishments. Instead of fancy pockets or linings, Marc by Marc Jacobs have kept the focus on retro typeface decoration and high class materials.

This simple approach does make a specious bag. There are no pockets or anything to get in your way, meaning that this is perfect as a travel bag for a weekend away. The handles too seem to be designed to carry heavy weights, as they are far more useful than they are pretty!

All in all this is a useful yet unexciting bag. You are expected to pay $129.99 for this, yet get no luxuries - not even a lining. I'm not sure it's worth it - but it will come in handy!

L.A.M.B Jean Large Bowler | Stylized Colorblock Patent Satchel

This colorblock approach is more and more becoming the signature style of the L.A.M.B designers.

The Jean bowler makes great use of the patent panels, contrasting them with the metallic body and matte accents. Lookswise, this design ticks all the boxes for adding texture, pattern and interest into the design.

Whilst the bowler shape and black patent make this bag look quite formal, the metallic shade adds a new degree of glamor. This is great, as it means that you could happily wear it after work for a night out or meal, although the large size will probably be a little too much.

Inside, this satchel could have opted for a rather boring matte shade. However, as you can tell, L.A.M.B likes to produce attractive and slightly quirky purses. Consequently, the strangely fabulous interior lining is in bold stylized black and white stripes, contrasting excellently with the curved exterior. I could have used a few more pockets inside the bag, what with the space, but this bowler does have an excellent capacity.

All in all this is a bold and vivacious bag that has bags of attitude and just about enough functionality. A cross-body shoulder strap would be nice, but beggars can't be choosers.

Jessica Simpson Sweetness Tote | Natural Slouchy Cut-Out Purse

Jessica Simpson's latest purse brings a touch of the natural to an everyday tote.

Huge fancy decorations are one thing, but those bags aren't always suitable for casual functional everyday-wear. What you really need for carrying your bits and pieces is a neutral purse with some sexy characteristics: pretty, yet useful all the way.

This tote is a great example, with some funky cut-out decoration but a practical and inoffensive look. Tan is great for coordinating with any outfit, whilst the traditional shape is easy to carry and even easier to fill. The drawstring closure is a nice touch, adding a little extra security and making the size of the bag a little more versatile.

It is a shame that a purse this useful and work-friendly isn't actually made form the soft slouchy leather that it deserves. Instead, we are given a soft yet fake synthetic, which means I am not sure what your $118 is going towards.

This tote with its cute and girly gingham (and slightly clashing) interior is a great purse for functionality and day-wear.

Do you have a princess at home? The world is full of girly girls who love nothing more than something to cuddle, some magic dust and a whole heap of pinkness. Catering directly for those needs is childhood handbag designer Popatu, the creators of this somewhat awful teddy bear bag.

This purse is the perfect thing for your little girl to carry around all her little girly things, which nowadays probably includes a tiny sparkly mobile phone and even, god-forbid, some makeup. Thankfully the interior of this plush squidgy clutch needn't be taken up by her teddy, which is instead fastened onto the front.

It is undeniable; this may be perfect for little girls, but it's therefore bound to be tasteless. The tutu wearing girl-bear on the front just further confirms this fact! That said, it is an innovative way to let your daughter act all grown up whilst still carrying around with her toys that ring loudly of childhood.

The bag itself isn't a mini version of a sophisticated adult clutch, which I think is a good thing. It has soft comfy handles and a cuddly snuggly plush exterior, meaning that daytime prancing can happily lead into nighttime exhaustion without any trouble!

All in all this is a silly and slightly ridiculous handbag. Consequently, little girls all over the planet are bound to love it.

This spacious yet traditionally shaped purse is in that famous geo-print exterior, bringing to mind old globes and stuffy drawing rooms. The classy brown leather trim and long functional handles just add to this vibe.

As with all true bowler bags, the inside space is large and undivided, allowing weekend clothes and belongings to fit inside, for those of us who don't actually own their own bowling ball! I do wish there were a few more pockets, and maybe an external one, but the gorgeous shape makes up for it!

Dolce & Gabbana has produced an on-trend and functional bowler with this chunky animal print bag.

There is something enticingly sophisticated about this square bowler, despite the print which some will love and some will hate. Whilst leopard print (or animal print of any description) generally looks slightly tacky or trendily energetic, D&G has resisted the urge to go for funky and has instead created a pattern that oozes class. Dark, glossy and detailed, this pattern reflects nature far more than the gaudy oranges and pure blacks that we are used to seeing on exotic print handbags.

Alongside the print of course, comes the gold hardware and bang on-trend studs. The tone blends in with the leopard shades and adds an element of 80s biker to the functional shape, making this suitable for both day wear and wild nightclub partying. This shouts "fashion" from the rooftops, and drags any attempt at conservative right down the pan.

Inside this haircalf purse, you really aren't going to worry about space and organization. Unlike many large and spacious handbags, D&G offers five separate zipped compartments, giving you the capacity to hold as many different things as you deem necessary. Lined in equally dark biker black, this purse really is the huge answers to space needs, but won't keep you subtle in a crowd. A little purse this is not!

Charles David Marina Bowler | Sophisticated Camel Lambskin Dome Bag with Diagonal Stitched Detail

The Marina Bowler from Charles David combines chic styling with undeniable luxury.

Calf leather is all well and good, but if you want that totally touchable, buttery soft surface, it needs to be lambskin. A framed panel with contemporary diagonal pleats jazzes up this classic dome shaped bowler. What a shame we don't see those same pleats on the bare and boring back!

You won't notice from a distance, but the hardware is also worth another glance. Grooves are cut into the silver rings that attach the shoulder straps. I love this accent. It's like nothing I've ever seen before, yet it's subtle enough to work with the sophisticated design.

Unzip the top to reveal the spacious ribbed grosgrain lined interior. The interior pockets are trimmed in leather, ensuring they stack up to everyday wear and tear. The base is also ready for everyday use. There are five metal feet ready to protect the sumptuously soft leather scuffs and scrapes.

The color palette is a little tame for my tastes, but it does make the Marina appropriate for the office. Choose yours in black, charcoal, burgundy, or this camel hue.

Part day handbag and part evening carryall, Guess have clearly aimed to create a stylish purse that will be suitable all year round. It isn't a pretty evening purse, nor a compact multi-functional beauty, but what it is meant to do it does well. You even get to enjoy the monogrammed Guess fabric on the interior, whilst the outside stays subtle and classy.

Th shoulder strap for this box tote is brilliantly useful. However, the short handles are a little thin for a bag of this capacity, which means you only have one carrying option if you really overload it.

All in all this is a top end designer bag that clocks in at under $200. It's a great little investment piece in trend-proof colors and an unusual shape.

Ranch Long Hair Mink Hobo | Oversized Luxury Fur Purse

There are some things that are OK in modern society, and some things that aren't. Leather, for the majority of the market, is OK. In a similar vein, eel skin shoes and handbags are acceptable to modern values, whereas fur ... fur is not. With so many alternatives for real fur, many of which are just as soft, it is generally considered pretty bad form to opt for fur over faux.

Don't get me wrong. I am aware that fur is soft, and luxurious, and comfy. This ranch mink hobo isn't stylish, but it is a status symbol for those who rank fur above all else, and who treasure its expensive form. I can even understand the acceptance of old fur before anyone knew better, which does seem to make sense. New fur, however, doesn't fit in here.

Of all the people on the fashion circuit, however, the most frequently seen faces are that of the PETA activists and animal rights campaigners. Not only would a mink handbag give them a heart attack, but it doesn't go down well with the fashion community.

All in all, even if this mink handbag was the most beautiful handbag in the world, and not a strange lumpy behemoth, it simply doesn't make sense to spend nearly $800 on something that could be bought much cheaper minus the fur.
