Jean Paul Gaultier Quits Role as Hermes Creative Director

After seven years of service, Jean Paul Gaultier will be stepping down as creative director of Hermes. He will show his final collection, the spring 2011 line, in Paris this October.

After seven fruitful years of creative partnership, Hermès and Jean Paul Gaultier artistic director of women’s ready-to-wear, have decided to bring to an end their collaboration allowing Jean Paul Gaultier to concentrate on his own projects,” a press release reads. “Hermès is deeply grateful to Jean Paul Gaultier for his outstanding creative contribution during these seven years.

Christophe Lemaire will step into Gaultier’s very big shoes as the iconic brand’s new artistic director. I only hope he’s up to the challenge; few men are as respected in the style world as Jean Paul Gaultier after all. We’ll see what Christophe Lemaire can bring to the French fashion house when he shows his first collection, the fall range, next year.
