There's a fun 80s vibe around this ruffled purse. I've never seen raffia looking quite this feminine, or this pink. There are more sedate natural toned and espresso colored options, but if you're going to go girly why not commit? The blend of raffia and cotton helps the ruffles fall softly around the purse. I can just imagine Molly Ringwald carrying this cheap and cheerful accessory in Pretty in Pink.

The frills have suckered me in, but the tasseled zipper pull probably takes things a step too far. It overcomplicates a design that was already pretty fussy. You could probably give it the snip if it really bothers you, but I don't think it's such a deal-breaker. It also makes accessing the main compartment a bit easier.

If you were expecting a lot inside, you'll be disappointed. There's only a single slip inside, and it's too small to be much use. There's no shoulder strap either, so we're left clutching the Billie by hand.

For $79 it's hard to get too critical though. While it doesn't have the polish of a lot of evening purses, it's much more versatile. Pair it with jeans or a flowing maxi-dress and wait for the compliments to roll in!

The large gentle pleats of this flap have a structure that almost makes them feel like plates of armor. These plates are separated by the ultra tight ruched synthetic running down the center. I love the way all these folds make the simple curved flap seem much more dramatic, but I'm less enthusiastic about the silver name plate. In some ways this kind of branding is a necessary evil, but with so many labels opting for more subtle logos it's a shame that Bebe isn't keeping pace.

I can't fault the Taylor on a practical level though. The saddle shaped interior is sizable and well appointed, with media compartments and a zip pocket. That striking curved design is a bit of a double-edge sword though, as it means the bag will topple once we sit it down. The selection of removable long and short straps helps make amends though, as does the convenient pocket on the back.

For $79 I'm really impressed by the flirty style and features of the Taylor. It doesn't cost a lot, but happily it doesn't feel like a low-end accessory either.

The use of real leather rather than 7 Chi's favored synthetic helps to make this hobo appear more luxurious than many of its stablemates. It hasn't lost its sense of fun though. The leather is cut into square strips which create a sort of ruffled fringe effect. It’s a very modern take on boho fashion which is sure to appeal to the budding Sienna Millers out there.

7 Chi allows that finish to take center stage; it's the focus of an otherwise simple hobo. Its full crescent shape is classic hobo, and the black color timeless. Personally I'd choose this over the reddish purple, as it's less likely to date, but bolder fashionistas may like that pop of color.

It looks a bit frivolous but the Mun Ruffle is well designed, with a selection of convenient carry straps and a plethora of pockets. These ensure the enormous interior never feels too big, although you may need to have regular clean outs to keep it free of clutter. This is the kind of bag that seems to attract receipts and old papers unless you take care with it.

Its $176 price tag should tell you that this hobo isn't made from the best quality leather. Customers have reported that it's a bit stiff, and if it's not packed carefully in your closet those ruffles could start to sit awkwardly. However treat it with care and it's likely to last longer than your average 7 Chi purse.

The secret to Kensie Girl's appeal is that it uses its materials really well. It needs to use synthetic to keep the prices kid friendly, but this slightly too stiff man made fabric gives the Barby's ruffles an appealing structure.

These ruffles are dramatic, like the folds of a flamenco dancer's skirt, and beautifully complemented by a light smattering of on trend studs. The bright yellow color won't suit everyone, particularly those teens who've been hit by a bout of angst, but it is lots of fun. The bow on the cross-body strap is the cherry on top of this pretty purse.

The colorful floral lined interior is spacious but a little narrow, so you might struggle to fit your copy of War and Peace inside. This space is packed with pockets though, and their synthetic trim should help them last.

As we'd expect at this price, shortcuts have been taken. The back is almost devoid of decoration, so it looks boring compared to that over-embellished front. There's also no protective feet on the base, so you'll need to be careful where you set the Barby down. But for less than $70 we don't expect perfection. In fact, I didn't expect something as cute as this!

The Hastings has everything we loved about the Laurel. The soft ruffled leather, with its zippered edge, is an intriguing mix of sugar and spice. The gently braided strap is a great complement to those elements we first fell for. And all that extra space won't go astray.

I'm a bit torn about the drawstring closure though. The gathers that this clasp creates are ideal for emphasizing the quality of this buttery leather. But it's not very practical. It's fiddly to use, and not very secure. I'm just not sure whether the look is compelling enough to justify those little niggles.

The lack of protective feet is another small disappointment. The platform base seems to be calling out for something to save it once it's set down. You can try to treat it gently, but I'll be surprised if you don't see some scuffs after a few seasons.

I appreciate the extra room the Hastings affords us, but I'm not sure Susan Farber has done enough to support it here.

With its ruffled top and diagonal detail, not to mention its oversized bow, this shoulder bag is ultra feminine. But in this gentle nude blush, I think Steve Madden gets away with all those saccharine accents. The bland color tempers the frothy embellishments, and they liven up what could have otherwise been a pretty boring bag.

It looks like it's all play, but the BHarmony is actually quite a practical carry-all. Its dual handles are long enough to sit on your shoulder, but rolled straps do have a tendency to go sliding. There's also a detachable cross-body strap, which is probably a more functional carrying option if you've got a distance to travel.

The BHarmony is generously sized, but its divided interior makes the space very manageable. There are also zip and slip pockets tucked away so there's no excuse for disorganization!

Steve Madden does use pleather rather than real leather, and it's too thin and shiny to fool anyone. But it also puts the price at a relatively affordable $108. Do you think it's worth the compromise?

DKNY has had a great run, lately. It's been really on trend, and its prices have stayed remarkably affordable. This ruffled leather shoulder bag is a great addition to its growing line of fabulousness.

The pastel pink color of this leather is not ordinarily something I'd go for, but it's so pale that it almost becomes neutral. The ruffles, however, are definitively feminine, but the stiffness of the leather keeps them from looking frilly or frumpy and retains the bag's structural appeal.

The simple squarish shape of the bag is the perfect backdrop for the ruffled exterior. DKNY has done a great job of keeping this bag beautiful by not overburdening it with a  lot of extra embellishment. In fact, there's no embellishment at all despite the simple DKNY hang tag.

At $225, this ruffled bag would make a fashionable addition to any wardrobe at a fabulous price.

I think this clutch works because it's meant for retro 80s dance parties and karaoke nights rather than everyday occasions. Everything takes me back to my youth, from the sickly sweet pink leather to the tight girly frills. The silver studs bring it back to the present, but they're not edgy enough to undermine the clutch's retro vibe.

This is a fairly large clutch, so you could probably work it before five. It's got enough space to carry daytime essentials after all, including a wallet, set of keys, cell phone, and gloss. It's also well organized with a pair of open pockets and a zippered pouch for valuables. The lack of shoulder straps or wrist loops is a glaring omission though. This purse would have been much more versatile if we only had a hands-free carrying option.

Just make sure your outfit is neutral, as the Frill Me Up won't allow itself to be outshone. If you're wearing something more complicated than dark jeans or a little black dress I'd probably think twice.  Of course if you want to pair it with an 80s throwback frock you'll certainly make a statement!

Its high quality materials make the Frill Me Up's $168 price tag quite reasonable. However you'll probably need to consider how much use you'll get from it before you lay your money down.

The Rosa gets its girlish charms from its soft ruffled edges. The structured frills are pinked on the edges, which makes them a bit neater and more tailored. This is definitely a buttoned up kind of femininity, especially in this gray shade. The color has just a hint of pink, although it's nothing that would offend those who favor conservatism.

The Rosa is also available in brown, but I'm not so enthusiastic about that hue. It has a deep grained surface, almost like wood, which really over-complicates the look. Those ruffles should take center stage, but they fight for attention with the finish.

While its looks impressed me, I've also been won over by all the carrying options 7 Chi offers. We can carry it clutch style, but if we'd prefer to go hands-free there are a couple of straps. The shortest one is made of chain threaded with complementary leather, while the longer cross-body strap is made exclusively with leather. Each strap is removable so we can enjoy a clean look no matter what mode it's in.

7 Chi rarely works with leather, so I'm excited to see it doing so here, especially as the Rosa is still affordably priced at $85.
