The documentary Ultrasuede: In Search of Halston charts the rise and fall of the man considered the first American celebrity designer.

In the 1970s stars like Lauren Bacall, Liza Minelli, Bianca Jagger, Diane von Furstenberg, and of course Jackie Kennedy lined up to wear cashmere dresses and evening gowns designed by Bergdorf Goodman's hat designer.

The Whitney Sudler-Smith directed documentary features more of the famous fashion house's fans including Anjelica Houston, Andre Leon Talley, and Billy Joel. Diane von Furstenberg and Liza Minelli also make appearances.

This is a very different project for Whitney Sudler-Smith who also brought us the gory Torture TV and the beer-soaked comedy Bubba and Ike. Only time will tell whether the director has the chops to bring the glamour of the Halston legacy to the big screen. Ultrasuede: In Search of Halston will debut at the Tribeca film festival on April 30 ahead of its release to the general public.

Today is the day plenty of Christian Dior fans have been waiting for. The luxury label's new short film, The Lady Noire Affair, has made its online premiere, and you can watch the thriller right here!

The piece harks back to the golden age of film noir, with its mysterious characters, dramatic lighting and musical score, and intriguing plot. It stars Christian Dior's current muse, French actress Marion Cotillard, and another timeless beauty, the legendary Lady Dior handbag. Marion channels vintage stars of the silver screen like Ingrid Bergman and Lauren Bacall with her captivating performance.

The film sees Marion reunited with Olivier Dahan, who helped the actress turn in an Academy Award-winning performance in La Vie En Rose.

The short film is fab for fashion fans short on time, clocking in under the seven minute mark. I don't want to give too much away, but it will leave you guessing up until the last second. The good news is that this is just the first in a series of Lady Dior films. Now I can't wait to see what happens next!

The company, which owns major designer brands like Bottega Veneta and Balenciaga, is sponsoring the soon-to-be-released movie Home. The film highlights environmental concerns around the world and attempts to show links that connect them.

To coincide with the film's topic, PPR-owned Yves Saint Laurent has created a collection of eco-friendly organic cotton t-shirts and tote bags to sold in select boutiques near the movie's release. One t-shirt reads "Save the Planet; Save Yourself". It's not YSL's typical item, but it does complement the theme of the movie.

Considering the broad scope of brands that PPR owns, I'm sure we can expect to see more fashion designers releasing limited edition items in correlation with the film. Home is scheduled to make its worldwide debut this year on June 5.

With all of the buzz surrounding the new film Valentino: The Last Emperor, there were sure to be some big names attending.

Celebrity fans, models, and designers showed up in droves for the opening night including everyone from Gwyneth Paltrow and Anne Hathaway to Diane von Furstenberg and Zac Posen. Valentino must have made quite an impression during his appearance on The Martha Stewart Show as the queen of craft herself was in attendance as well.

"I am so proud," said the designer, flanked by Paltrow and Madonna at a dinner held after the screening at the Plaza's Oak Room.

Well, it's probably hard not to be with fans like that. The nearly two-hour documentary featuring the designer's road to retirement (and his love of pugs) has opened in select locations, and will hit other theaters soon.

The documentary entitled Valentino: The Last Emperor, which originally premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2008, will make its way into New York City theatres on March 18th before move on to other major U.S. cities a few weeks later.

Expect to catch glimpses of the designer's exclusive inner circle and behind the scenes of his incredible runway shows. The movie highlights Valentino's long career in fashion and ends with his recent retirement bash.

We all know about the man's talent for creating timeless apparel and gorgeous handbags. Like other lovers of fashion, I look forward to understanding the genius of Valentino a little better from the inside look provided by the film.

Chanel designer Karl Lagerfield has made his directorial debut with a 10-minute silent film celebrating Coco Chanel. Mr Lagerfield was inspired to make the movie to set the record straight about the style pioneer.

"It's a funny movie, unpretentious," said Mr Lagerfeld. "Chanel was a charming woman, at liberty to seduce men. Everybody this year has decided to make a movie about Chanel, and you know their historical worth is not always too exact."

The film tells the story of Coco's love affair with Duke Dimitri Pavlovich. The decision to shoot in black and white is sure to add an air of authenticity to the work, which is set between 1913 and 1923.

Karl chose people closest to him to fulfill his creative vision, casting models Edita Vilkeviciute and Brad Koenig to play Coco and The Duke, his own bodyguard as a nightclub owner, and workers in his atelier to fill the minor parts.

"I cannot take extras," Mr Lagerfeld stressed. "They don't know how to touch the clothes."

The short film will make its world premiere at Paris' Ranelagh Theatre tonight to coincide with the launch of the Chanel Paris-Moscow pre-fall collection.
