This Whiting & Davis design is truly a unique find. With its combination of texture, material, and vibrant color, the Lizzy Clutch makes for one fun, little evening bag.

The overall silhouette is fairly typical for a clutch. However, the structured and geometric v-shaped closure and bottom panel that meet in the middle combined with slightly gathered panels on the sides provides an interesting contrast.

It's the use of material that makes the Lizzy stand out, though. The sides are constructed with Whiting & Davis' signature metal mesh that gives the brand its undeniable vintage vibe. When that mesh meets up with lizard-embossed leather, however, the design takes on an appealing contemporary twist.

You can get the Lizzy Clutch in a neutral silvery gray, but the turquoise and hot pink choices definitely have more personality and really set of the contrasting textures. Plus, the pop of color is right on trend for cocktail parties and other dressy events this season. This Whiting & Davis handbag retails for $150.

Burberry Lizzie Handbag | Nappa Leather Convertible Studded Purse

Burberry is one of those labels I love to hate. I get tired of the brand's iconic plaid purses, but when it steps out of the box the designs tend to fall flat. But Burberry seems to have gotten it right with the Lizzie. And there's not a hint of tartan in sight!

Instead the Lizzie features those on trend studs we're seeing so much of lately. The purse is virtually covered in them, but by keeping the metal small Burberry ensures the hardware doesn't get overwhelming. Plain diagonal leather strips break up the design, and are mirrored in the V-shaped pleats in the center of the purse.

The studs may be modern, but the size isn't. The Lizzie bucks the contemporary taste for oversized bags, and I think it works. Those studs may have overwhelmed on a larger canvas after all. Instead we get a purse which is large enough for carrying everyday essentials but doesn't weigh us down.

With the strap, the Lizzie is a cute daytime bag. But remove it and you've got one sexy little clutch for your next cocktail party. That day to night versatility makes the epic $2150 price a little easier to swallow.

Steve Madden Cookie Wristlet | Long Studded Turquoise Clutch

Steve Madden goes more than a little bit disco with this brilliantly bright and studded wristlet.

It is nice to see a wristlet that is a decent size. They tend to be tiny, and sometimes it is good to have one that can fit more than a little cash and a tiny phone. Even better, this studded clutch still has that useful wristlet handle, making it easy to carry on a big night out.

The studs are great for the 80s trend that still seems to be sweeping the catwalk, although the look would be more vintage if the leather was black. As it is, the turquoise fabric brings the purse thoroughly up to date, even if it will coordinate with fewer outfits than black would!

The turquoise theme is carried on inside, but in a satin fabric. Unfortunately there is no convenient concealed strap to make life easier, but the smart materials and geometric stud work mean that if you like the looks you will make the effort to carry it around!

Treesje Metro Clutch | Modern Lambskin Leather Turnlock Purse

While many clutch purses are strictly after five affairs, the contemporary good looks of Treesje's Metro make it just as appropriate for daytime toting.

Complementary stitching around the borders of the purse and its flap add definition to the buttery soft lambskin. The sexy angular pleating in the centre adds even more structure to both front and back. But I'm not sure about the way the leather seems to bunch irregularly at the sides. A much smoother finish would have looked much more chic.

The Metro doubles up on security, with a zipper and vintage-inspired turnlock clasp. That makes it a little fiddly to get into, especially if your cell phone is ringing, but I still admire the extra safety measures. Open them up to reveal a space which is a little larger than the average. The zippered change pocket and cell phone slip help keep the essentials in order, leaving more space for your other party must-haves.

With all that room inside, it's strange that Treesje hasn't included a tuckaway shoulder strap. The styling seems to suggest a purse which suits both daytime and evening wear, but I'd get sick of carrying it in my hand for any extended period of time.

The $350 price tag seems a little steep at first, but when you consider the versatility of this day-to-night clutch it doesn't seem so outlandish.

This is the first in a series of articles introducing you to the vintages styles of different eras, and showing you some of the best vintage inspired handbags on the market. To begin with, the brilliant era of life-changing politics and dramatic prohibition that produced flapper girls - the fabulous 1920s.

The 1920's, especially from 1925 onwards, were known as the "roaring 20s", and as such is characterized by the Charleston, evenings spent dancing despite the alcohol prohibition, and women rebelling against repression. There probably were day bags, but the real prized possessions to accompany complex flapper dresses and elegant feather boas were the delicate beaded art deco evening bags.

This fun shopper shows us that tie-dyed fabrics don't have to look like hippie throwbacks. By keeping things subtle, Magid brings boho style that isn't stuck in the 60s.

The easy breezy look is accentuated by the paper straw finish. It's tightly woven for a little extra strength, but I still don't expect it to last very long. But at $38 retail, it won't cost too much to replace! The colorful tie-dyed look is continued throughout the handles, which are strangely removable. You couldn't easily carry this bag without them, so I wonder why Magid gave us the option!

Affordable handbags like this don't tend to come with a lot of extras, so I was pleasantly surprised to peek inside this one. It's lined in bright, satiny fabric, and there's a zippered pocket and a cell phone slip too. Turn the bag upside down and you'll even find some protective metal feet! That should make the straw exterior last a little longer.

The casual styling and candy colors of this Magid shopper mean you'll find it most useful in the warmer months. But don't put it in the back of your closet once winter strikes. It'll look cute carrying fresh produce home from the markets at any time of year!

This Comme des Garçons holdall is described as a man bag, but I could easily imagine it in the closet of any chic female fashionista.

What sets it apart from so many man bags is the vibrant color. There's no sedate black or gray available here. Instead you can choose this playful turquoise or an electric blue variety. They're not very masculine choices, but flamboyant fellas and confident ladies could easily carry off this look.

The colors could easily overwhelm, but the simple design keeps everything in balance. Two shoulder straps wrap around the bag to become belted accents. It's just a shame they aren't longer. Comme des Garçons has made them adjustable, but even extended to capacity you can still only carry the holdall by hand. And when this murse is loaded up, that's going to be a real challenge.

The PVC fabric isn't as luxurious as leather, but it is a little easier to keep clean. Light marks will simply wipe away with a damp cloth, to keep your bag looking fabulous for longer. The synthetic material also makes this holdall cheaper than most Comme des Garçons creations.

The pleating is so interesting here, with creases adding texture in all directions. It's an abstract design, with horizontal lines contrasting delightfully with vertical and diagonal ones. By crafting the entire thing from the same colored satin, Magid creates interest without distracting us. It's definitely the kind of purse that makes you look twice.

The narrow style is perfect for slipping under your arm, which is just as well as there's no shoulder strap. But a slender profile does have its practical limitations. You'll probably have room for your party must-haves, but if you're used to oversized clutches prepare to scale back. The satin walls make overstuffing possible, but that lumpy look won't impress anybody.
