Chocolate City Flap Clutch | Metal Studded Pink Synthetic Purse

Edgy metal studs are one of the biggest trends of the season. But it seems Chocolate took the style writers at their word when it created the City Flap Clutch.

Whether it's right on trend or overdosing, you'll have to decide yourself. There is an awful lot of metal there, but it doesn't look quite as tacky as this number of rhinestones or sequins might. I don't even mind the loudest combination of silver and hot pink, although conservatives may prefer the darker than dark purple or steely gray.

Chocolate seems to keep the design in check by favoring a traditional approach. The simple rectangular shape with its large flap allows the contemporary metal to take center stage. Ordinarily I'd want to see embellishments on the back too, but more studs may have pushed the City Flap Clutch over the edge. The simple zippered pocket is a far more appealing, and practical, addition.

There isn't a lot of space to spare inside, with the city Flap Clutch appearing a little more like a wallet than a traditional evening bag. That won't worry girls who like to travel light with just their cash and cards, but packrats may struggle. If you fall into that latter category but still like the look, I suggest stashing the purse inside a larger tote.

Baby Phat Mystical Mirror Bag | Large Silver Studded Satchel

Baby Phat is never a brand that does things by halves. Accessories like this Mystical Mirror bag may be a little ostentatious for many bagistas, but fans of Kimora Lee Simmons' blingtastic label are sure to lap it up.

I'm not sure whether you could use this silvery satchel to touch up your cosmetics, but it's the metallic finish which gives the Mystical Mirror its name. Silver synthetic doesn't need any more accents, but of course Kimora Lee includes them anyway. The signature kitty cat logo is surrounded by a plethora of rhinestones. Add a smattering of tiny silver studs and tasseled zipper pulls and you've got one very busy look.

It's a shame, because the interior delivers everything I'd want in an everyday satchel. Sure, I'd probably need sunglasses to look at the hot pink lining, but it's also kind of fun. But I'm more interested in all that space and the zip and slip pockets for keeping precious cargo organized.

This is the kind of handbag you'll either love or hate. It's not my cup of chai, but I'm sure plenty of purse lovers will adore its big, brash, style.

One glance and it's easy to see what inspired the Twinkle's playful moniker. Brilliant rhinestones sparkle against their black leather backdrop like stars twinkling in the night sky. The accent is striking but not overdone, with Alexis Hudson resisting the urge to add too much bling.

While the rhinestones are the greatest eye-catchers, they're not the only design features worth attention. The traditional flap design is given a little tweak with geometric cut-out corners. Brushed metal studs bring edge without competing with the rhinestones. The mismatched chain continues the rock and roll look, while the leather centre ensures the strap is comfortable to wear.

This is a medium sized bag, which may not have the space modern girls crave. With such a slender profile there's no room for luxuries. That may be enough to turn many off, but your shoulders should approve of traveling a little lighter.

The Twinkle could so easily have looked gaudy or kitsch, but it cleverly resists both. This is a bag for girls that like to wear just a hint of bling, rather than the whole jewelry store.

Kenneth Jay Lane embodies art deco style with its Eros clutch. It's named after the Greek god of love and lust, and its inspiring equal measures of both in me!

The black patent leather finish is sleek and smooth. This sophisticated leather is lovely but basic, allowing the pale green stone accent to take center stage. This lovely gem is embellished with a smattering of rhinestones. Decorative bars flank the push lock closure, adding an extra dash of style to this simple design.

The slim profile looks chic, but it makes storage nearly impossible. I love the inclusion of a small mirror for make-up touch-ups, but I'm not sure where I'd stash my cosmetics! With little space on offer, I suppose the lack of shoulder strap isn't surprising. Where would we hide it when we weren't using it? Still, once a night wears on I long for this modern convenience.

There are a few practical setbacks, but the chic styling of the Eros makes me want to forgive them all. This is one little purse that knows how to makes a big impression.

Sometimes I think you're either a Guess girl or you're not. High-end snobs turn up their nose at the brand's love of PVC and embossed exotics, while plain Janes shudder at the bold colors and the rhinestones. While they never suit everybody, Guess is the arm candy of choice for many girls who love a bargain.

The Tabitha tote has all the trademarks of a classic Guess bag. Rhinestones? Check. Bright colors? Check. That affordable PVC finish? Check and check. Yet it doesn't look as overworked as so many Guess handbags, so perhaps it might win the brand some new fans!

The first trick is keeping the shape simple, so the embellishments aren't competing with anything else. Then the colors are kept complementary, so the reptilian straps add subtle interest rather than screaming. The rhinestone studded logo stands loud and proud, but the label's fans would be disappointed if it didn't!

Guess' designs are so ostentatious, we often forget that its handbags are pretty practical. The Tabitha is no exception, with a large zippered pocket and three slip pouches helping the roomy inner space stay organized.

Guess prides itself on affordable prices, so it's no surprise to see the Tabitha retail for less than $100. That should please fashionistas feeling the pinch of the financial crisis!

Valentino Kaleidoscope Stone Tote | Gray Satin Metallic Handbag

Just another note in the Valentino is awesome file, the new Valentino Kaleidoscope Stone Tote has begun racking up a waiting list of pre-orders for fall 09.

The gradient stones that cover ever inch of the gray satin tote give the illusion of mirrors the way they catch the light. A slight ombre effect adds to the metallic shine. Nothing could have made this bag tacky faster than too sparkly rhinestones, but the ones chosen are absolutely perfect in their varying shapes, sizes and colors.

Again we are faced with the dilemma of the over-the-top fancy tote. We love them so but where would we wear them? Perhaps those with the very fanciest of lifestyles, which afford them $3,000 bags such as this, could wear something like this to lunch.

The texture of the bag, while visually stunning, would probably be another practical pitfall if we were concerned with such things as practicality when it came to Valentino bags.

So, another art piece we'd love to look at all day long, and certainly show off to the whole world, but would have difficulty actually executing.
