Botkier Orion Fuchsia Evening Bag | Unique and Unusual Funky Purse

A truly unique and eye catching bag design is worth shelling out on, and this Botkier Orion shoulder bag is definitely unique.

The shape of this purse is the biggest selling point. It adds a wonderful dose of structure, and the firm quality of the smooth leather is a great contrast. I particularly enjoy the cute but subtle studding on the panels.

Of course, bright in-your-face fuchsia isn't going to suit everyone, and it is shame that you can't buy this unusual handbag in any other colours. In addition, I am not particularly a fan of the bright and somewhat garish silver chain handle. With the main body of this angular purse already so bright, a subtler metal shade would have made it look more luxurious.

All in all this is a pricey and unique evening bag that will get plenty of looks, but may be just a little too obvious for some.

Celestina Maricel Soriano Clutch | Red Abalone Shell Evening Purse

Celestina impresses again with this gorgeous Maricel Soriano clutch.

This dazzling evening purse is hand crafted from a red abalone shell. No designer's handiwork could equal the pearly mottled finish on the glossy surface Mother Nature's created. The round shell fits neatly into a copper frame. This beautiful clutch closes at the top with a gray amethyst clasp.

This purse is sexily slender, but that makes storing anything inside it almost impossible. It could fit loose change of course, but without any lining those coins will rattle around. A shoulder strap wouldn't have looked quite right, but you'll probably want one anyway as the hours wear on. This isn't the kind of purse you'd want to sit down after all!

The Maricel Soriano retails for a little more than $1000, a high price for something we'll only carry after five to be sure. But if you can stretch your budget, at least you know you're buying a truly unique show stopper!

Carlos Falchi for Target Satchel | Affordable Large Green Faux Snakeskin Bag

Carlos Falchi has captured his signature style for less with this satchel, part of his capsule collection for department store Target.

Of course, to make this purse so affordable there are compromises made. There's not a hint of genuine python in the snakeskin collage body. The glossy finish probably gives that away, but by keeping the colors dark the design doesn't look quite as tacky as it could have. The combination of black, forest green, and charcoal gray PVC is striking and ideal for winter weather. And let's not forget, while real leather shows stains quickly PVC simply wipes clean.

The interior has a much lighter look with its colorful fabric lining. I love the way the Target logo is subtly incorporated into the whimsical printed polyester. The generous space is organized better than most bags in this price bracket, with a cell phone slip, zip pocket, a sunglasses pouch and a key ring holder. You'll also find another zippered pocket on the outside of the bag, just in case you were running out of storage options!

The shape isn't very inspired and the fabrics not very luxurious, but this satchel definitely has the Carlos Falchi stamp. And for just $50, it's an affordable alternative to the designer's high-end accessories.

Burberry Lizzie Handbag | Nappa Leather Convertible Studded Purse

Burberry is one of those labels I love to hate. I get tired of the brand's iconic plaid purses, but when it steps out of the box the designs tend to fall flat. But Burberry seems to have gotten it right with the Lizzie. And there's not a hint of tartan in sight!

Instead the Lizzie features those on trend studs we're seeing so much of lately. The purse is virtually covered in them, but by keeping the metal small Burberry ensures the hardware doesn't get overwhelming. Plain diagonal leather strips break up the design, and are mirrored in the V-shaped pleats in the center of the purse.

The studs may be modern, but the size isn't. The Lizzie bucks the contemporary taste for oversized bags, and I think it works. Those studs may have overwhelmed on a larger canvas after all. Instead we get a purse which is large enough for carrying everyday essentials but doesn't weigh us down.

With the strap, the Lizzie is a cute daytime bag. But remove it and you've got one sexy little clutch for your next cocktail party. That day to night versatility makes the epic $2150 price a little easier to swallow.

B. Makowsky Brasilia E/W Satchel | Croc-Embossed Leather Handbag with Front Pocket

Embossed leather is the way to go when you want the look of exotic material without the price tag. Whether using the technique on real leather or manmade material, brands have caught on to the popular trend, and embossed bags of crocodile, ostrich, snakeskin, and more are flooding in.

There are two things about this croc-embossed Brasilia satchel from B. Makowsky that set it apart from some other embossed bag candidates. First, the leather is real and soft, which is a signature of the label but not always the case with other brands. Second, the crocodile texture is somewhat subtle and spread out instead of compact and busy like some embossing.

These two factors, when combined with the Brasilia's other attractive qualities, make for a very decent handbag style. I wouldn't call it a simple design due to the other design features, such as the top corner panels, buckled details, and half-moon front zippered pocket. However, the details together somehow don't overwhelm the style but rather come together in a very appealing way.

The Brasilia is available in this E/W satchel shape as well as a smaller satchel and N/S shopper. This light "vachetta" brown is a nice, neutral choice as are the dark brown and black options, but the deep blue "pacific" color is both pretty and unexpected. This B. Makowsky satchel retails for $278.

Magid Crystal Stone Clutch | Affordable Manmade Jeweled Evening Bag

We all have outfits that call for a slightly dressier than average type of handbag, but budgets often don't accommodate for the prices of Swarovski-studded, intricately detailed designer styles. For a truly affordable evening bag, Magid is definitely one of the brands to seek out.

Though you won't get super high quality materials, this brand has some really nice options for dressy accessories under $50. This Crystal Stone Clutch might not live up to the standards of other jeweled handbags, but the $43 price tag and simple design are worth considering when your pocketbook is calling for cutbacks.

The design is basically a simple fabric zippered pouch with silver and black manmade jewels sewn on in a random pattern. I actually really like the somewhat haphazard layout of the stones. It detracts from the quality of the actual jewels, and the interesting pattern fits right in with current trends. It's too bad that the feature doesn't continue on the back, but that's not completely unexpected for this type of purse.

As with most budget-friendly bags, I wouldn't take this one through too much use or you might see some wear and tear on it, especially with the sewn-on stones. However, since it's meant to function as an evening bag, which is only required occasionally, that probably won't pose much of an issue.

Chinese Laundry Addison Double Handle Tote | Gathered Synthetic Bag with Buckled Detail

The Chinese Laundry Addison Tote is a little confusing at first glance. The shape is both structured, yet gathered and slouchy at the same time. There's quite a bit going on with this handbag, but the blend of details is unique and interesting.

The Addison's relatively square silhouette, though a common feature of a tote, is given some depth with gathers and folds that culminate to a decorative buckled feature on one side of the front of the handbag. It has the appearance of being somewhat random and a little all over the place, but the gathered detail is given a purpose and placement with the addition of the buckle.

The back of the tote bag does not feature the same technique but does have a slightly loose look due to the gathered material around the handle rings. It complements the look of the front but offers a little relief from the detail, which could otherwise make the bag seem a tad overworked.

This Chinese Laundry design is available in a handful of neutral colors including brown, gray, and black. It might not be real leather, but the use of synthetic material prices it at an affordable $84.

Betsey Johnson Bowdacious Satchel | Feminine Suede North/South Carryall

With her signature feminine charm, Betsey Johnson transforms this fairly plain satchel bag into a deliciously girly accessory.

It's that combination of basic design and just a little feminine flair which ensures that, unlike some other Betsey Johnson creations, this one doesn't go too far. A handful of dark hematite studs, softly twisted shoulder straps, and Betsey Johnson's unmistakable signature are small decorative touches which never overwhelm the centerpiece: that great big angled bow. The suede body gives the simple curves of the satchel a relaxed slouch. I'm a little concerned with how the pale colored suede will age, but the pink and blue-gray pastel tones are entirely appropriate for the Bowdacious' ladylike demeanor.

There's enough space inside the fully lined interior for a wallet, small cosmetics bag, day planner, and other day-to-day essentials. The leather trimmed open pocket can take care of your cell, while the zippered pocket in the other wall gives you a secure place for carrying coins and other valuables.

For its genuine leather body and playful personality, the Betsey Johnson Bowdacious Satchel is reasonably priced at $325.

Be & D Garbo Clutch | Studded Gray Leather Purse

Just in time to capitalize on the current taste for studs comes Be & D's reinvented 5th Anniversary Garbo collection. While the line features satchels and duffels, I think it works best on a smaller scale.

This little clutch almost overdoses on studs, with small nailhead studs and larger spiked ones working together to create an edgy look. Yet by keeping the bag small, it doesn't appear quite as overdone as it might. The subtle gray shade and simple flap design also work to tone down the look.

This clutch is of a decent size, so you shouldn't have any problems fitting your party must-haves inside. The zippered pocket is a nice secure addition, and the detachable chain strap brings another practical touch. You can wear it long across your body, double it over for shoulder carrying, or take it off old-fashioned clutching.

The $695 price tag is a little expensive for such a small purse, especially one with such a distinct look, but at least that money buys quality.
