Candy Wrapper Bag

This bag was made from candy wrappers that would have ended up in the landfill, which makes it not only super cute, but eco-friendly as well. It reminds us of the Capri Sun bag, but in a cute, pocket-sized coin purse version. It looks like there are many kinds of candy wrappers to satisfy everyone's preferences, and there are fun colors to boot!

Saddle Bag

This may possibly be the only saddle bag any woman wants. It's great for showing off a western flair and the perfect bag for true cowgirls. It also looks durable, which is definitely a plus. We just want to know how much it stores and how you carry it. Maybe you can just hold it by the horn. And don't we all wish it came with a free pony attached?

Charles David Zelda Clutch | Haircalf and Leather Handbag with Lizard Print

Posted on: Nov 14

Charles David has an impressive selection of stylish shoes, but the brand's handbags make equally dramatic statements and are worth considering if you're looking for shopping for quality in a mid-price range.

The label is no stranger to animal print material, so this Zelda handbag with a leopard-printed haircalf inset doesn't surprise me one bit. Statement bags are big this season, which makes this bold clutch a great option for staying on trend during the fall.

Although I'm really not a huge fan of animal print or haircalf material on a purse, I'm somewhat drawn to the mixture of textures on this Charles David design. The middle haircalf inset is flanked by a lizard-embossed leather border and smooth leather body.

This oversized clutch has simple cutout handles commonly seen on bags of this type, but also features a detachable shoulder strap that gives you an additional option for carrying. If you like the style but really aren't a fan of animal print, the Zelda is available in a beautiful blend of grays as well as a berry red color.

More Features of the Zelda Clutch

  • Measures 17.5 x 12 x 3.5 inches
  • Cutout handles with 1 inch drop
  • Detachable, adjustable shoulder strap
  • Magnetic closure
  • Retail price of $225

Hobo International Suzzette Satchel | Simple Black Leather Handbag with Dual Compartments

Posted on: Nov 13

As far as black leather satchels go, this one is nearly as simple as they come. I wouldn't exactly call it as dull as dishwater, as they say, but there's really not much about it that jumps out as extremely interesting.

Being a Hobo International design, you know that the Suzzette Satchel is going to be well-made and crafted from genuine leather, which is a definite appeal. However, it's not going to win any awards for originality or attract any shoppers who are looking for a statement piece.

The rounded shape is nice and somewhat contemporary. I'd even go as far as to call the Suzzette sleek and streamlined because of its lack of extra details besides handle rings.

The significant depth of the handbag is great for storage, but some might consider it a drawback since it could make the purse seem bulky against the body. The interior is quite practical, though, with two separate zippered compartments and a couple of smaller pockets.

If you're looking for a very simple style in a classic, versatile handbag color, the Suzzette will serve you well. Those looking for something original might want to stick with some of Hobo International's other designs like the Solano Tote.

More Features of the Suzzette Satchel

  • Measures 19 x 9.5 x 9.5 inches
  • Double handles with 9.5 inch drop
  • Dual zippered compartments

Steven by Steve Madden Animal Instincts Satchel | Black Pony Hair and Synthetic Handbag

Posted on: Oct 29

It might be basic black, but this Steve Madden Animal Instincts satchel will help you get in touch with your wild side.

I've been on the fence with haircalf bags before, but by keeping the color conservative I think Steve Madden may have won me over. The surface looks soft and velvety rather than creepy and furry. I wish it was teamed with genuine leather rather than synthetic, but I suppose it keeps the price down. At nearly $230, this satchel is a lot more expensive than most Steve Madden purses already. Genuine leather may have won over bag snobs, but it probably would have alienated Steve Madden's budget-conscious fans.

While it might not withstand as much punishment, the synthetic doesn't diminish the Animal Instincts sexy good looks. The gleaming gold hardware provides a rich contrast to the brooding dark fabrics.

The animal appeal continues inside with the flamboyant leopard print lining. The zippered pocket and technology-loving slips help keep this sizable interior space in order.

The biggest flaw for me is the short straps. Sure, they're exceedingly cute, but they're just not practical for a bag of this size. I can't imagine how awkward I'd feel lugging this satchel around once it was loaded up with all my essentials! It's perfect for making a statement at dinner, but if you've got errands to run you'd best leave this baby at home.

  • A Steve Madden keychain
  • Dual straps with a 4 inch drop

Burberry Prorsum Laser-Cut Suede Hobo | High-Tech, Low Maintenance Burgundy Hobo With Cut Outs

Posted on: Sep 26

Burberry is a label that, honestly, I sort of thought of as a one-trick pony until a few years ago. Its one trick being the trench, of course. In the past couple years, though, the line has really stepped up its fashion game. And Prorsum has taken it one step further with its own take on edgy, hip classics.

This laser cut suede hobo walks a fine line between modern and classic, and one I'd like to see Burberry keep walking. It's not the most exciting, edgy hobo I've ever seen, but it's not supposed to be. It would be equally at home on the arm of a society dame or the wife of a rockstar.

The rich color of the sumptuous suede is very of the moment. They call it burgundy, but I'd say aubergine. However you say it, it's a great dark neutral that will work with a lot of color palettes, both warm and cool, and is a great take on this season's not-quite-black darks.

The shape strikes a fab balance between structured and slouchy. I hate the way an overly slouchy hobo just collapses when you put it down, but that won't happen with this baby. It's got just enough to hold itself up. The band, strap, and buckle detail along the top adds a bit of edginess, but the rolled leather handle keeps it classy.

I really like this hobo, but for $1,495, I want something to have a little more punch, or to be the kind of thing that lasts a lifetime. And while the style of this hobo might stand the test of time, the suede probably won't.

Stuart Weitzman ZipCalico Tote | Haircalf and Suede Western Handbag

Posted on: Sep 19

I was on the fence about putting my seal of approval on B. Makowsky's haircalf and leather combo Canterbury Tote, which puts this Stuart Weitzman ZipCalico handbag in a shaky place as far as my recommendation goes.

One thing is for sure about the ZipCalico. You can't accuse it of being inauthentic. If the Canterbury's animal print haircalf caused hesitation, this tote bag's by-the-book, true cowgirl look takes things to a whole new level.

There's no wondering what style Stuart Weitzman was offering with the ZipCalico. Any gal who is fond of wearing a cowboy hat and jeans will fall head over boots for this handbag. I suppose it could also work for women who simply like adding unexpected accessories to an outfit, but it has an undeniable western stamp on it. For me, it just bears too much resemblance to a haircalf rug I'd expect to see on the floor, but there are plenty of others who dig the look.

I guess haircalf and suede doesn't come cheaply, though. Not completely surprising for Stuart Weitzman's line, the ZipCalico runs for a whopping $695. I happen to find that price high for such a style-specific handbag. However, you can expect great quality from the brand, which makes it worth the cost if you think you're in love with it and think you'd have plenty of opportunities to wear it.

More Features of the ZipCalico Tote

  • Measures 17.5 x 13 x 3.5 inches
  • Studded straps with 7 inch drop
  • Magnetic closure
  • Suede trim

Marc by Marc Jacobs Loopy Bow Pouchette | Fun And Fabulous Purple Velvet Shoulder Bag With Bows Everywhere

Posted on: Sep 19

Marc Jacobs, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways: 1. completely infamous grunge show for Perry Ellis in the 90's 2. the infinitely affordable Marc by Marc line 3. the tattoo on your arm that says "shameless". In the immortal words of Rachel Zoe, "the man is an !#@ing genius, what can I say?"

And now to the bag. Excuse me, but I'm clearly about to gush. This bag is freaking adorable. The deep purple (!) textured velvet is simultaneously trendy and also a total throwback in the best possible way. I adore the giant bow that takes center stage.

I only wished they hadn't put that horrible, huge logo plate on the front of the bag. It takes it from totally classy to a little bit trashy in less than three inches. But no matter. If it were my bag, I would just pry the damn thing off.

The chain link strap is seriously killing it. The combo of goldtone links and silver bows is too perfect for words. I would wear this baby with my shortest, tightest LBD and more eyeliner than Alice Cooper. But that's just me. There's a way of styling it that could be totally sweet and femme, too.

And (drum roll, please) it's only 250 smackers which makes me absolutely willing to overlook the horrible logo plate.

Valentino Leopard Print Goat Hair Bag | Fierce And Luxurious Animal Print Hobo

Posted on: Sep 15

When Valentino himself retired from designing his eponymous line, I was a little concerned. Who, after all, can replace an icon? The current designers, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, however worked under the man himself designing accessories, and their designs haven't disrupted the continuity of his legacy, at least in terms of accessories.

This Leopard Print Goat Hair bag is pure Valentino: strong, feminine, luxurious, and totally timeless. Let's be honest, if you're the kind of woman who's going to carry a leopard print goat skin bag, you always wil, trends be damned. Well congratulations, you're probably a style icon too.

This hobo is completely to die for. Except the giant leather bow detail, which, frankly, I think detracts from the pure animal magnetism of the bag itself. But the bow's only on one side, so you can just flip it around or have it removed. It isn't a dealbreaker, as far as I'm concerned.

The slim taupe leather handles give the bag great asymmetry, and their color goes well with the overall print. The generous size ensures that it will make a great everyday bag, but I seriously doubt that you'll be abandoning it for evening. Another bonus is the use of goat skin, which has all the luxurious texture of other stiff furs, without the over-the-top price tag.

Not that this bag is cheap. It's a designer bag at a designer price ($2,695), but well worth it for the amount of attention that it will draw.

Giuseppe Zanotti Luxury Oversized Clutch | Animal Print Tassled Purse

Posted on: Sep 9

This spacious purse from Giuseppe Zanotti is one of "those" bags. You know: the clutches that hit every single trend on the head, all within one little purse. For this expensive designer evening bag, those trends are animal print, chain handles and tassels, all in one!

On their own, each of the trends are hugely fashionable. Animal prints, such as this spotty leather leopard style pattern, can look great and slightly "western." Tassels are still huge even if their popularity is waning somewhat, and chain handles will probably be in fashion as long as the earth still circles the sun.

When you look at how Zannotti have put together the trends on this handled clutch, it becomes apparent why they have kept with a monochromatic black and white theme. If any other colors were added this evening bag would be completely over the top! I do feel the chain may be one step too far, especially since chain handles are notoriously breakable and uncomfortable!

Whilst clearly made from luxury high-end materials, this bag is one of those wear-once-a-year jobbies. Silly, dramatic and probably very desirable, you have to be totally convinced to shell out the impressive $1400 price!

Jimmy Choo Large Odetta Pony Skin Bag | Electric Blue Leopard Print Pony Skin Oversized Satchel

Posted on: Sep 8

Jimmy Choo's accessories have always been a little hit or miss to me. Sometimes he makes things that should seem over-the-top, like bright animal prints, others look positively elegant, and sometimes his line just plain bores me. Luckily, this bag falls into the first category.

The combination of disparate elements is really what wins me over on this one. Here on the Odetta, we have pony skin, electric blue leopard print, and elaphe snakeskin accents. It should be too much. But it looks just right to me. This bag achieves an extremely delicate balance, and the result is pure luxury.

The pale gold accents are toned down just enough to keep the bag from pouring over the edge of tastefulness. The rectangular shape of the bag is intersected with the Y-shaped harness detail, which breaks up the print of the pony skin, and keeps it from being too overwhelming.

The harness detail is also on the sides, and its prevalence gives the bag an edgy vibe. The only thing I don't really like about this bag is the magnetic closure at the top. For a bag this size, I really feel like it should have a zipper, as little things may be prone to falling out.

Not that you're going to be throwing this bag around a lot. At $3,295, it's just a little too precious for that.
