I am always on the lookout for a brilliant little piece of handbag art, and this synthetic leather and straw clutch is one of my favorite recent finds.

A cute straw basket bag always goes down well in vintage and retro inspired circles. The effect is especially strong when you have a piece like this, which adds flare and a fashion twist with the addition of a snakeskin faux leather buckle and trim.

Although the looks are downright stunning and so individual, there are a few limitations that can't be avoided. Firstly, looks aren't everything, and although the bag costs $63 you don't get any decent materials. The leather is thin and fake, and the straw wicker won't last beyond a few seasons. If you are seeking a unique handbag that will last you for life, this Straw Studios purse probably won't cut the mustard.

If your expectations are slightly lower, however, then this funky clutch with its paisley lining will do you fine, whether for wearing in the sun next summer or for dressing up a vintage evening outfit.

I always look forward to the next Whiting & Davis bag I see. No one else could do so many beautiful things with a simple metal mesh!

This little wristlet is a more delicate version of the Whiting & Davis clutches. Using nothing more complicated than a gentle lotus flower pattern, the silver mesh stands in elegant contrast with the black print. It is interesting that it is so beautiful; the metal is smooth and un-embellished, and that typical elaborate style of the brand is rather different to this simple wristlet.

That said, the delicate floral exterior is countered by the studded black leather wristlet. This little handle brings a punk biker edge to the purse, working that meeting of girly and butch to its most effective advantage. It contrasts dramatically (and not everyone will like it), but I think it works.

This metal clutch is meant to be small, but I feel that it is perhaps a touch too thin as well. After all, phones can be a little fat these days, and we don't want to have to leave it at home on our nights out!

Leave it to Hobo International to take an asymmetrical design element and make it seem commonplace. Although this uniquely shaped Lori clutch isn't as unpredictable as other asymmetrical purses, there's a very chic simplicity to the style.

I actually think it's a fantastic blend of contemporary aesthetic and a classic look. Hobo International could have just added a straight-across front flap or even an envelope flap, as the brand has done many times already.

However, the angled detail is a nice twist on the ordinary, especially considering the other traditional aspects of the Lori. This clutch is black, made of leather, and slightly oversized for regular use. Frankly, if the bag didn't have the asymmetrical touch, I'd probably pass right over it.

The generous size makes it a good option for daytime as well as some semi-dressy outfits at other times of the day. In basic black, it looks sophisticated but stylish enough for any kind of modern gal on-the-go.

Exotic fabrics are alsways a great gimmick, and eel skin leather is one of the smoothest softest gimmicks around!

I am a particular fan of this leather, and Jalda produce some of the most luxurious materials around. You pay for that luxury, but if you want something a bit special, that is always going to be the case!

This slouchy clutch is strangely attractive. Although simple, minimalist and unadorned, the fabric slouches and folds in just the right way, even if you don't get any bold features to accompany it. To make up for this you have the color, however, which as with all eel skin purses is stunningly vivid. The purple shade isn't quite as exciting, but the yellow and blue really do pop.

Of course, luxurious and tactile as this Jalda Kona handbag is, the designers have missed a trick by not offering an optional handle, for when you want to dance and not clutch. In the same vein, whilst the lining fabric is wonderful there are no interior pockets, immediately making this clutch suitable for going out only.

While Marc Jacobs is definitely one of my favorite designers, lately the Marc by Marc Jacobs line has left me feeling a little cold. Most of the bag designs are good, but they keep crudding them up with a bunch of logos. I know that some people like that sort of thing, I just don't happen to be one of them.

This bag is a good example of what I'm talking about. The soft, lush great velvet is a fabulous material, and the smooth patent leather bow contrasts with it nicely, but the stamped Marc Jacobs logo is really distracting. I wish they would have gone with a quilted velvet, instead.

Actually, I'm not really sure about a couple things on this bag. There seems to be too many bows on the front, and I just cant tell whether the smaller ones are meant to look like bows or flowers, and for some reason, I find that really irritating.

It's also a little shapeless for my taste. I mean, it looks fine in the picture because it's all stuffed with tissue, but it just isn't going to look that way in reality. After you fill it full of your personal things, I have a feeling it might look a bit lumpy.

Overall, I just don't think this bag is very well executed, and I expect a lot more from Marc Jacobs.

If I don't stop gushing about Marc Jacobs, people are going to start thinking that I'm a spy from the company sent to BagBunch to trump up his stuff. I'm not, I swear, and as evidence, here's a bag by Marc Jacobs that I hate. All that being said, the man is a genius, and this bag is proof.

It's also proof that you can incorporate a lot of trends in a design and still make it look wearable. The Sasha has all the black leather badassitude that I'm coming to expect from the fall season, plus asymmetry, plus zippers, plus sparrows? Yeah, they're not really a trend, except to people who are into psuedo-tattoo sort of stuff.

The slouchiness of the bag makes it look really downtown and ultra-hip, but all the pockets and pouches make it really practical. There's the front flap pocket, two front zipper pockets, and the main compartment. I won't even go into the inside, but it is equally compartmentalized.

I love compartmentalization, but this might be a bit much. I probably just wouldn't use the front zipper pockets. Well, maybe to hide an in-case-of-shopping-emergency hundred dollar bill. And the sparrows I could do without, but they miraculously don't bother me as much as I would expect. They're a little bit of sweet on a bag with a lot of sass. Maybe it needs that?

Isaac Mizrahi's show at the recent New York Fashion Week was quite a production. The designer with a personality as fun and crazy as his schedule brought a little of his quirkiness to the runway.

Mizrahi's new styles floated and flounced down the catwalk through an elaborate set involving two staircases, a platform, and even a little rain. The collection was reportedly inspired by "Fred Astaire, Anime, and 'The Obstacle Course to Glamour'."

Though the romantic silk and beaded paisley dresses were impressive, the accessories of the show were the real standouts. The belted shoes, flat-brimmed hats, and variety of handbags stole the show for me.

The common theme for bags was structure and more structure. The vintage-looking luggage cases and briefcase styles definitely had some Fred Astaire flair. Paired with the flat-brimmed hats, all that was missing was a cane. A few even looked like they might be holding a musical instrument.

The style was very specific and probably not up everyone's fashion alley, but I'm at least glad to see something different on the runway. No one can ever accuse Isaac Mizrahi of not being original. See looks from the designer's runway show here.

Marc by Marc Jacobs has a way of bringing style-setting trends into relative affordability. Sometimes, though, he simply brings his past successes back into the forefront, by reinvigorating them for new seasons. This clutch, for example, looks a whole lot like the iconic Dr. Q Magazine Clutch that fashionistas across the globe went crazy for just a few seasons ago.

Instead of the smooth leather of the Dr. Q, this Magazine clutch features the stamped Marc by Marc Jacobs imprint. To be truthful, I'm not sure whether this is an improvement. I like the texture of the bag, but I'm not really big on obvious logos. The color of the leather, however, makes up for it. The rich burnt orange is fabulous for fall.

The 15" x 10" size is great for day or night, and in this color, it will go with just about everything. The foldover style is modern and sleek but the details give it a distressed, almost bohemian edge. The goldtone logo plate is secured with a dark brown placket, and the combination brings interest to the center of the bag.

This Magazine clutch is sure to find as many followers as the last, and for good reason.

If you want to embrace the vintage and retro side of fashion this year, then this Eden clutch from popular designer Hobo international should suit the look.

Available in four vintage-inspired colors, this clutch simply resonates with understated vintage charm. From the pastel shades to the big chunky retro button, Hobo has really done their utmost to put together a simple but endearing purse that any fifties loving girly girl would be happy to have in their hand.

Although this compact and feminine purse doesn't offer the practical option of a long detachable handle, Hobo have endeavored to make clutch-carrying life a little easier. Simply grab onto the useful strap at the back to make carrying easier. This is a clever feature I don't think I have actually seen before, and goes some way to making up for the absence of a shoulder strap.

Inside this elegant handbag is a lining of pale and sophisticated gray paisley. Whilst I would perhaps have liked to see a dramatically contrasting interior fabric, or floral pattern, this is clean and simple. The matching colored pocket trims are cute too. Even better is the useful coordinating coin purse that slips neatly inside. If stashing spare change isn't your thing, however, you can remove it with ease.

A cute and cheerful purse that is high on the charm factor, this little beauty is gentle enough to remain inoffensive to all! Just don't expect super-bold colors or wacky features.
