Whiting & Davis Lotus Wristlet | Decorative Floral Mesh Clutch

I always look forward to the next Whiting & Davis bag I see. No one else could do so many beautiful things with a simple metal mesh!

This little wristlet is a more delicate version of the Whiting & Davis clutches. Using nothing more complicated than a gentle lotus flower pattern, the silver mesh stands in elegant contrast with the black print. It is interesting that it is so beautiful; the metal is smooth and un-embellished, and that typical elaborate style of the brand is rather different to this simple wristlet.

That said, the delicate floral exterior is countered by the studded black leather wristlet. This little handle brings a punk biker edge to the purse, working that meeting of girly and butch to its most effective advantage. It contrasts dramatically (and not everyone will like it), but I think it works.

This metal clutch is meant to be small, but I feel that it is perhaps a touch too thin as well. After all, phones can be a little fat these days, and we don't want to have to leave it at home on our nights out!

Chinese Laundry Olivia Shoulder Bag | Layered Synthetic Flap Purse

Chinese Laundry has brought a modern attitude to the shoulder bag with the Olivia, part of its fun new fall collection.

The front is adorned with layered flaps, which are cut diagonally to add edgy interest. Layers can look feminine and fussy, but the surprising angles give the bag more of an uptown vibe. I just wish we saw them on the back of the bag as well. Without these accents, the plain back looks boring and unfinished.

Chinese Laundry keeps the price to a recession-friendly $99 by sacrificing real leather for a synthetic. This manmade material is stylish with its mottled design and subtle gloss, but I don't expect it to last as long as its more luxurious counterpart.

The interior space is simple and slim: perfect for hugging close to your body but not ideal for carrying bulky goods. The manmade material may stretch to accommodate a bulky novel or two, but then you risk shortening the synthetic's life even more. The zippered pocket is a real drawcard though. It extends across the length of the bag, so it affords more space than the average compartment.

This pretty purple is my pick, but if you're more of a traditionalist you may prefer the olive green. This darker shade is so close to black, it could easily pass as a neutral.

Jessica Simpson Large Lotus Hobo | Boho and Affordable Pewter Napa Leather Handbag

The Lotus by Jessica Simpson is covering a lot of trend territory at once. Oversized: check, hobo: check, metallic: check. With all this going for it, you are sure to be noticed with this boho hobo in soft napa leather.

The classic hobo shape is enlarged and updated with rouching detail. Although this bag retails at about $215, it appears more expensive. The gathers in the leather and the huge expanse of metallic napa contribute to the luxurious look.

Not that you have to get all dressed up to pull this hobo out of closet. It is the perfect item to pull together a casual jeans and tee shirts style. Its 18.25" x 11" size ensures that it is a great choice to carry everything you need on a day out.

I love the look of the rolled leather and braided strap. The 14" drop on the handle ensures that it will be comfortable to sling over your shoulder. The only possible drawback I see with the handle is that the braid detail is right where the bag will sit on your shoulder, and sometimes when you weigh down a bag, heavily textured handles dig right into your skin where the bag needs to carry the most weight.

While the Lotus has all the trends in check, the metallic makes it a good choice to take you from winter to spring. The soft pewter color is sure not to clash with your jewelry, and will add a layer of sparkle to your everyday wardrobe.
