Sometimes little known handbag designers can produce a great looking purse. The quality may not be the same as legendary fashion-houses, but this reasonably priced bag can bring a dose of bold 60s goodness to your look.

In my humble opinion 60s fashion, with its funky geometric prints and bright colors, never really goes out of style. The colors may clash with some of your outfits, but print mixing is currently "cool" and this will work in this purse's favor.

Now, whilst the checkerboard squares are great looking, this Eenamaria bag is somewhat lacking in shape. It can't seem to decide between being thin and elegant, or chunky and spacious. Of course both have advantages, but combined it makes for a 60s clutch with a wide bottom and a narrow top, finished with a strange gold chain.

All in all this is an affordable and accessible clutch, that looks good but doesn't necessarily carry that design through to completion.

This is a very faithful tribute, but I think it'd be a little creepy to carry a severed doll's head about. And that's before I even know the bottom line. The Kathrine Baumann website says the price is on application, so I'm not expecting it to come cheaply. I think this one might be for die-hard Barbie fans only!

This dopp kit is something a little different from Tepper Jackson. The bold patterns and vibrant colors we're used to are gone, replaced with elegant matte shades.

While it appears like leather at first glance, looks can be deceiving. This dopp kit is actually crafted from laminated canvas. It may not be quite as luxurious but it's a pretty convincing, not to mention affordable, substitute. The case is traditionally designed, with a classic domed shape and chic topstitching. Gender neutral colors like this moss green make this toiletries bag appropriate for lads and ladies.

While we girls might be taken in by the looks, Tepper Jackson knows it has to provide a practical package if it hopes to keep the men interested. The front and back are equipped with large zippered pockets which complement the main interior compartment. It's a little small for my liking, but so long as you stick to travel shampoos and stick deodorants you should manage. It's also nice to see the signature Tepper Jackson flair hidden on the colorful lining inside.

It might not suit pack rats or fans of Tepper Jackson's quirkier accessories, but this dopp kit is an excellent choice for those looking for a classic cosmetics bag.

Alexander McQueen is one designer who is not afraid to let his weird, wacky sense of humor shine through. Who else is going to pull off attaching a glove to a clutch, and not just pull it off, but make it a must have accessory of the season? McQueen takes his conceptual ideas about fashion, culture, and design, and makes them wearable. At least for some people.

There has been a lot of buzz about this bag, and as you might guess, it mostly centers around the glove, which was inspired by the iconic style of Marianne Faithfull. Personally, I think the glove is a great addition to the bag, aesthetically, and since it brings a sense of humor to an otherwise totally badass look, I would leave it on. But a lot of ladies out there prefer to detach the glove and just wear it.

Looking beyond the glove, the clutch itself is a classic rocker style that will work for downtown types and ladies looking to add a little extra edge. The gunmetal stud embellishment in the corners adds a hint of sparkle, but a goth-tinged sparkle that seems in keeping with the hard-edged aesthetic. I love the zipper detail, and the fact that all the hardware is black. There's just nothing to take away from McQueen's monochromatic, back in black design.

This clutch is totally iconic, and I think that, despite its $1,095 price tag, it's probably a good investment, since people are going to be talking about it years into the future.

It's all in the details for this season's handbags. Forget your plain leather purses; studded and quilted bags are leading the way.

"Handbags have become the new statement accessories," said Katie Frayard, manager of Kiki. "Clothes are a backdrop for bags."

The fringe fad also hasn't faded, although moderation is key. Keep it soft and delicate unless you want to look like you've stepped from a rodeo.

Chain shoulder straps may not be practical, but they're right on trend. To protect your shoulders, look for handles with leather centers. And this season the longer the straps, the better. That's right ladies: cross body bags are back. I love when practicality and style work in harmony!

As the leaves change on the trees, so do the favored handbag hues. Purples and violets are big, as are reds and deep pinks. Blue fans should look to lapis and navy, while gray is an "interesting neutral."

It seems we may also have seen the last of the oversized handbags. While we still love it large, this season's purses aren't quite as overwhelming. Slouchy hobos are out and structured purses, including doctor's bags and satchels, are in.

That's a lot to take in, but Ms Frayard says it's not hard to stay current this season. Consider modern classics like the Marc Jacobs Stam bags and iconic Chanel purses. They have the quilted finishes and chain straps you need to stay at the forefront of fall fashions.
