Net-A-Porter has its newest edition of The Bag Guide out, and it breaks down the various style options we shoppers have for updating our handbag collections for the fall season.

The style categories on the list cover quite a range of looks, from classic leopard print and the "anytime-everywhere bag" to the "forever bag," which functions as both purse and work of art. The overarching theme of all twelve looks, however, is making a statement. It's a trend seen at recent runways shows as well, such as Versace's Alice in Wonderland-inspired collection.

As always, there are familiar designer names on Net-A-Porter's list. Alexander McQueen, Chloe, Marc Jacobs, and Bottega Veneta all made the cut with their stunning handbags. There's even a special appearance by Marni's Mini Balloon, which made the cut as the ideal "off-duty" bag. My personal favorites are the Bottega Veneta Karung satchel and the Yves Saint Laurent leopard-print Muse Two (seen above), both definitely statement makers.

Spring is springing up all over the department stores, and with it has come a new crop of woven handbags. Bottega Veneta is, as they sometimes do, leading the pack on this trend with their recently released purses in traditional intrecciato. With this Half Moon Clutch, Bottega ups the ante by combining specchio kid leather, karung, ayers, and nappa intrecciato detailing. If these Italian words don't mean anything to you, just know that they are different kinds of leather, from shiny (specchio) to snakeskin (karung), and intrecciato is a style of weaving.

Complicated foreign nomenclature aside, this clutch is simple, classic, and gorgeously made. The combination of colors and textures is perfectly balanced, and while it makes me feel like Spring to see all this weaving, I can see this bag taking you right into Fall with no problem. The tones are light enough for summer, but rich enough to complement almost any color palette.

The 11" x 6" x 3" size is great for stowing your evening essentials, although I think that the Half Moon Clutch would also be a great daytime party bag. Half moon shapes are always my favorite for handheld comfort, and I think this bag is only going to get better broken in with a lot of hand holding.

The only drawback I see on the clutch is the price. At $1,650, it isn't really formal enough to use with a fancy evening ensemble, but it isn't really big enough to become a great everyday bag. Still, if your tax refund comes in big, maybe you'll feel like splurging on a bag that is definitely beautiful, but slightly impractical. If you're like me, though, you might just admire it from afar.

If Hollywood has a queen of handbags, it's Judith Leiber. Her stunning purses have taken the red carpet outfits of Catherine Zeta Jones, Penelope Cruz and Cate Blanchett from the mundane to the magnificent.

This beautiful snakeskin purse is no exception. We've all seen our fair share of snakeskin handbags, but no one does them quite like Judith Leiber. The python is typically the snake of choice, but their scales are big and gaudy. Judith Leiber has created this purse using the karung snake, a variety with much smaller scales. But it doesn't just give a more delicate appearance. It's also more durable. This exquisite material falls in soft feminine folds.

This striking teal blue exterior is offset by gold hardware and a serpentine chain shoulder strap. But the real star is the snap lock closure. I've never seen a closure that was a feature, but then again I've never seen one made of jewels.
