Prada Releases Retrospective Book Commemorating Three Decades of Fashion and Innovation

It's done fashion, architecture, art, and cinema. Now European design giant Prada will turn its hand to the printed page.

The stylish handbag brand is set to release retrospective coffee table book looking back at its 30 years of design innovation. Simply titled Prada (what else?), this is no light read at a monster 706 pages. I suppose the label has achieved a lot over the last three decades, but I hate to think how heavy this tome will be. It definitely doesn't sound like something to pack in your suitcase for your Christmas vacation!

"For Prada, fashion, luxury and style go beyond producing an infinity of clothes and shoes, so the book wants to illustrate the various aspects through which Prada expresses itself," explained Patrizio Bertelli, chief executive officer of the Prada Group.

The book, published by Prada Progetto Arte, will soon hit Prada flagships stores around the world, selected bookstores, and Prada.com. Considering its monster size, the compendium is remarkably good value at 100 Euros.

Devi Kroell’s Flagship Store Opens on Madison Avenue in New York City

Devi Kroell might have a Target diffusion line under her belt, but her newest venture is a far cry from her affordable line of handbags featured in the budget-conscious store. This New York-based designer is moving up in the retail world ... specifically to a new flagship boutique in Manhattan's prestigious Upper East Side.

Since her first collection debuted in 2004, Kroell has been gaining momentum as well as more than a handful of celebrity fans. Fashionistas like Ashley Olsen, Anne Hathaway, and Rihanna have carried her luxurious designs, and even Gossip Girl has caught the Kroell fever.

The award-winning designer has earned her spot on New York City's Madison Avenue, and the real estate couldn't be more impressive. Exotic skin handbags, jeweled clutches, gorgeous shoes, and other items are impeccably displayed in the two-story flagship store.

"I wanted to create an airy, secluded space where shoppers could have a serene experience and take in the pieces at their own pace," the designer says.

Hopefully this is one fashion brand whose sales and success will continue to rise rather than dip into dangerous territory necessitating layoffs and store closings. Be sure to check out the new boutique at 717 Madison Avenue next time you're in the Big Apple.

Japan Shuns Luxury Handbag Brands | Versace Closes Doors in Osaka, Tokyo, and Chiba

Once Asia's luxury shopping epicentre, Japan seems to be losing its taste for luxury brand. Last year LVMH decided to can plans for a new Louis Vuitton flagship store in Tokyo's Ginza shopping district. Now Versace has gone a step further, announcing it plans to shut down its Japanese stores. The luxury fashion label currently has outlets in Osaka, Tokyo, and Chiba.

A statement from the company says that Versace's Japanese boutiques "no longer represented the brand image and it was felt to be more advantageous for the company to close them and start with a clean slate."

Experts say the Japanese are following world trends for discreet luxury, without the logos and obvious branding of many mass-marketed lines. Instead, the new breed of Japanese stylistas prefer to mix and match outfits with high and low-end fashion items. Whatever the reason behind the shift, it's bad news for a fashion industry already struggling in the face of the financial crisis.

Juicy Couture Etiquette Small Leather Tote | Chic And Affordable Black Leather Satchel

48707 in dlI'm not really a fan of Juicy Couture. I just get tired of its overly-embellished aesthetic. But this bag is pretty dope, and basically a steal.

I'm actually really surprised by how pared down and minimal this bag is. It's not really what I've come to expect from Juicy. The only sparkly dangly thing about it is the charm, and I bet you could pry it off if you hate it.

Otherwise, the bag is made of supple leather, with asymmetrical seam detail that makes it a little more interesting. The gold hardware is subtle and chic.

And, moreover, the Etiquette is basically the perfect size. Big enough for a paperback book (you know, or a Kindle), but too small for a laptop. And the price, at $300, is amazing. I'd totally snap this one up if I was in the market for a new everyday bag

Catherine Fossati Healey was inspired by her European heritage to create the Italian collection, her latest limited edition Fossati handbag line.

The range includes the romantically named Venice evening bag, and the Capri and Milano day bags. Each was inspired by the city which shares its name. They're all available in a range of exotic leathers, including leather, python, and ostrich. The luxury continues inside, with each purse lined with lush lambskin.

"Our luxurious lining adds to the pleasure of owning a Fossati handbag. The lining is light and bright to add a little extra measure of luxury and surprise," explained Ms Fossati Healey.

"Fossati handbags are designed for sophisticated women who value quality and scarcity over brand recognition."

The Italian Collection will make its debut at Henri Bendel's flagship store at 712 Fifth Avenue, New York from October 22 to 24. Catherine Fossati Healey herself will appear in store to coincide with the launch.

"Henri Bendel has a reputation for launching new brands, it's thrilling to have an opportunity like this," she said.

There's no word in pricing yet, but the sumptuous fabrics and limited edition designs guarantee the collection won't come cheaply!

Tommy Hilfiger To Launch Massive New York City Flagship Store

Next month Tommy Hilfiger will open the doors of its new flagship store in New York City.

The brand's CEO Fred Gehring says Tommy Hilfiger is delighted to open its world headquarters in the American fashion capital. He adds that the move represents the company coming full circle, as Tommy Hilfiger began in the Big Apple more than twenty years ago.

So it's fitting that the new store blends contemporary elements with traditional 20th century architecture. It was designed by the label's creative team in association with Callison Architects. The centerpiece of the 2000 square meter space is a modern staircase designed to look like a floating sculpture. It doesn't just help shoppers access the outlet's four floors. It also functions as an exhibition platform for art installations.

The store will present a series of exclusive products and new packaging to celebrate the September opening. You can find the brand new Tommy Hilfiger store at 681 Fifth Avenue, New York City.

The New Fall 2009 Coach Cambridge Handbag Collection Launches Online

Coach knows just how to tease us with pearlized leathers in plum and metallics to get us in the mood for fall when there's still weeks left of summer.

Its new Cambridge Collection, available online now, will hit stores September 1. The collection includes five styles including my favorite: the Cambridge Zip Top Tote in plum shown at right. Other styles include the Alexa, a doctor-bag style in both a fringe and non-fringe version, a zip-tastic foldover clutch and a roomy hobo.

"This upcoming season the collections embrace a broad range of attitudes with a variety of new silhouettes and subdued colors in an array of handbags and accessories. Inspired by the season's inherent sophistication and the many iterations of New York City style, the various collections prove to be innovative and directional. Worn with the perfect cold-weather topper and layers of tough jewelry, the result is sure to be sleekly chic and uniquely modern."

With a downtown sensibility and refined color palette the bags are fashioned out of ultralight pearlized calfskin leather with spectator-inspired contrast trim and burnished amber or gunmetal hardware.

Burberry Opens Flagship Store in Downtown Beijing

Over 300 people attended the christening of a Burberry store on Thursday night. The party celebrated the opening of Burberry's new two-story flagship location in downtown Beijing.

With champagne flowing, guests were welcomed to the event by co-hosts Maggie Cheung, actress from Hong Kong, and Christopher Bailey, creative director of Burberry. The new store, which clocks in at nearly 5,000 square feet, is said to display the new global design concept created by Bailey himself. Even actor Jackie Chan made a quick appearance, apparently interested in some of the brand's famous handbags.

The party meant more than just a store opening its doors, though. This large flagship location is a testament to Burberry's continued success in a suffering luxury industry. Kudos to them for whatever they're doing to stay afloat.

Rent Luxury Luggage at Flight 001 Travel Stores

Cash-strapped fashionistas have been renting their favorite designer purses for years, so renting high-end luggage seems like the next logical step. Travel store Flight 001 is making it possible with its new Baggage Claim for Hire program.

The initiative allows jetsetters to rent out luxury luggage for days or weeks at a time. It's not only a great idea for travelers on a budget. It’s also a real space saver for apartment dwellers. It also allows you to test-drive that sexy suitcase you’re drooling over, alerting you to any flaws before you lay your money down.

Instead of compromising by buying a cheap, disposable piece of luggage, this will allow customers to rent first-class luggage only when they need it, skipping the hassle of storage,” said Brad John, Flight 001 co-founder and director of merchandising.

Right now the selection's a little lean, with only silver or black Rimowa luggage to choose from. Hopefully the range will expand as the initiative finds its feet.

The service debuted at the company's flagship store in New York's West Village this month, but we can expect to see it nationwide by the end of the year.
