Among its architectural masterpieces and other urban attractions, Melbourne, Australia also boasts the largest shopping center in the Southern Hemisphere. Chadstone, or rather "Chaddy" as it is sometimes referred to by locals, is home to a various collection of shops that ranges from Target to Tiffany's.

The luxury fashion precinct of Chadstone is actually a new addition, though. The elegant boutique section includes Burberry, Gucci, Coach, Chanel, and more with other major labels rumored to move in soon.

Chanel celebrated the opening by releasing an exclusive 2.55 quilted lambskin bag, which contains a special plaque inside to commemorate the launch.

“It was created by Karl Lagerfeld exclusively for the launch of our new boutique at Chadstone, which opened on Wednesday,” Susie Stenmark from Chanel Australia tells us.

You'll have to be in Australia to get your hands on one, though. This limited edition handbag is only available at the label's store at Chadstone.

Coach's Poppy Collection is all glitz, glam, and youthful designs. Although this patent leather Glam Tote isn't quite as bodacious as some of the sequined designs from the popular line, the shiny look fits right in with Poppy's signature style.

The simple square-shaped silhouette of the Glam Tote is nothing extraordinary, to be sure. It's really just your classic, basic tote bag with a few zingy details to spice things up.

This version of the Glam contrasts glossy patent leather with grosgrain ribbon accent on the handles and running down the front and back of the handbag. Two convenient exterior zippered pockets are decorated with silver-toned o-ring pulls, as is the bag's main zipper closure on top.

I suppose patent leather wasn't quite enough glam for a bag named Glam, which must be why Coach added an extra glitter logo hangtag in addition to the one in patent. Overall, this a fun bag that offers a bit more pizazz than your average practical tote. It's also fairly consistent with the Poppy Collection's prices retailing at $268.

The synthetic may be another matter though. I wouldn't be surprised to see telltale cracks show before too long.

The generous size makes this tote ideal for carrying books to class or swimwear to the beach in warmer weather. There are several pockets inside, complementing the roomy fabric lined space. With places for your spare change, cell phone, and PDA it's easy to keep this sizable space organized.

The combination of rainbow colors and white trim gives the Waterside tote an upbeat summery vibe, but if you're game you could definitely use it to brighten up a gloomy winter's day!

Coach head back to its basic but luxurious roots with this traditional heritage tote.

Whilst Coach is known mainly for its patchwork purses, but I think its signature patterned satchel totes are actually some of the label's classiest creations. The brand isn't pushing the boundaries of fashion, but it is creating modern formal bags perfect for both work and play.

This purse in particular seems a cut above the rest. It has a slightly privileged feel, and wouldn't look out of place at a country club tennis match. Whilst the lemonade is being supped and the weddings arranged, smart bag owners are able to enjoy both the stunning coordinating blue satin lining and the cute Coach logo on the front.

There isn't much to say about this Coach tote. All in all it is a largely inoffensive but functional bag, with plenty of useful but flashy touches, such as the little name tags and the reinforced corners on the base. You may not make anyone pass out with desire over the innovative design, but its waterproof exterior will definitely do you proud.

Of course, the strong exterior does mean that you can't squeeze that much in the bag, even though it is stretched out! Thankfully it does come with a convenient handle, however,  and for once it isn't a chain! Lovely!

Coach's move into the budget handbag sector has seen the luxury label grow despite the financial crisis.

The brand's profits fell slightly in the fiscal first-quarter, but revenue is up. This is an encouraging sign when so many luxury labels are suffering.

Consumers have embraced Coach's budget bags priced between $200 and $300, particularly the Poppy line. Around half of Coach bags are priced under $300, compared to just 30% a year ago.

"For the foreseeable future, we do not expect the consumer to spend as much as she has done in discretionary areas," CEO Lew Frankfort told investors. He added, "We have adapted our pricing and product strategies to be successful in what will become the 'new normal.' "

While customers are spending less, Mr. Frankfort says they're doing it with confidence.

"We have seen a significant improvement in our customers' outlook for the economy and intention to purchase over the next year."

Coach is capitalizing on the results, with plans to introduce two new women's accessory groups, Waverly and Gramercy. There'll also be new Poppy items priced under the magic $100 mark. Boys won't be forgotten either, with the brand planning to open its first men's stand-alone store next to its Bleeker Street outlet in New York City.

Burberry is taking a cue from fellow designer handbag maker Coach and cracking down on copyright infringement. While Coach has taken action against retailers who are selling styles similar to their own, Burberry is all about protecting its signature checkered pattern.

The British-based company is up in arms about UK pet supply store Pets at Home selling dog coats and baskets in a plaid design close to its own signature plaid. It must have been fairly identical for Burberry to feel that the retail store was violating copyright laws. The legal dispute is currently ongoing, although the items have been taken off the shelves.

It isn't the first time that the company's well-known (though some might call it strikingly basic and easy to imitate) plaid has been sold to consumers, and I'm guessing it won't be the last legal action that Burberry takes regarding the subject. Hopefully this one can be settled out of court.

I've always found Elie Tahari's designs a little hit or miss. When the label aims to emulate trends, the bags are often overdone and overworked. But when Elie Tahari takes a back-to-basics approach, as with this Neve satchel, the purses ooze quality and style.

There's nothing particularly revolutionary about the Neve, but that's what makes it so appealing. A classic black bag is the kind of wardrobe staple which suits any occasion, and any season. The butter-soft leather falls in a soft slouch, creating a contemporary, relaxed silhouette. Gold-toned hardware adds a touch of class, contrasting with the dark calfskin.

Three zips on top open to reveal three entirely separate compartments. These generous sections feature plenty of pockets, including handy zippered pouches and a cell phone slip. The satiny pink lining adds a touch of femininity to this fairly conservative bag.

The snake-embossed handles are too short to be practical, but they do bring an exotic touch to this minimalist satchel. If only Elie Tahari had added just a few inches. Something tells me we won't care about the look after a day lugging the Neve about!
