With her signature feminine charm, Betsey Johnson transforms this fairly plain satchel bag into a deliciously girly accessory.

It's that combination of basic design and just a little feminine flair which ensures that, unlike some other Betsey Johnson creations, this one doesn't go too far. A handful of dark hematite studs, softly twisted shoulder straps, and Betsey Johnson's unmistakable signature are small decorative touches which never overwhelm the centerpiece: that great big angled bow. The suede body gives the simple curves of the satchel a relaxed slouch. I'm a little concerned with how the pale colored suede will age, but the pink and blue-gray pastel tones are entirely appropriate for the Bowdacious' ladylike demeanor.

There's enough space inside the fully lined interior for a wallet, small cosmetics bag, day planner, and other day-to-day essentials. The leather trimmed open pocket can take care of your cell, while the zippered pocket in the other wall gives you a secure place for carrying coins and other valuables.

Alexis Hudson plays it straight with the Bohem hobo. This is a return to the roots of the style, with its characteristic slouch and easy breezy spirit.

This is every inch the classic hobo, which is just what I like about it. Contemporary hobos have turned the design on its head, so this return to form is refreshing. The minimalist approach and simple color palette here makes it perfect for pairing with a colorful printed maxi-dress.

While it's simple, the Bohem certainly isn't boring. The soft shoulder strap has a wonderful distressed look, and there's subtle braiding down the centre and across the base. The side tassel strikes just the right bohemian note, but I could do without all the metal charms. I hope these are easy to remove, because they really clutter this clean design.

The Bohem's lovely looks are backed up by its spacious design. The generous lined interior features a zippered pocket, a slip pouch for gadgets, and a convenient key chain. Anyone who's ever struggled with a broken zipper will be thrilled with the double zip opening.

While I love the warmth of this chestnut brown bag, but the Bohem is also available in basic black.

An expensive bag and luxury brand-name are all well and good, but that doesn't always mean that you will end up with an elegant and sophisticated purse. This over-decorated and dramatic evening bag from huge fashion-house D&G is a perfect case-in-point.

This individual key words for this bag paint a luxurious picture. The detailed and delicate beaded exterior, with its sparkling diamante layer. The soft deep-black tassel key charm, and the folded scrunched black satin fabric. Together, however, that spark of brilliance is missing.

Instead of heavenly, the actual finished result is a little over-the-top and a bit too much. I think the gold keyhole clasp clashes with the lighter silver diamante, and this in particular makes this very expensive luxury evening bag seem somewhat cheaper than it really is.

Slightly questionable looks aside, the bag is elegant and pricey. It may not be to my tastes, but that dramatic style may just be your cup of tea.

Joy Gryson has two new babies: her six-year-old daughter Olivia Harris and the budget handbag line which shares her firstborn's name.

Little Olivia seems like the perfect namesake for the brand given her own keen fashion sense.

"She's really, really funny. Whenever we see someone walking in the street with one of the bags, she gets too excited," explained the New York designer. "She loves the little charm and the tag."

Showing you're never too young to carry a designer purse, Olivia enjoys carrying a one-of-a-kind creation made lovingly by her mother. Her pink leopard cross-body hobo covered in hammered rivets doesn't sound like the most tasteful creation around, but that just makes it perfect for a mini fashionista. While Olivia would love to take it to her first-grade class, her mother insists it's for weekend use only.

While fashion fans can't get Olivia's beloved bag, others like it are available in the Olivia Harris collection.

"We're all about downtown," explained Joy Gryson. "If the Gryson girl is TriBeCa, the Olivia Harris girl is her younger, cooler, rock ’n’ roll baby sister from Brooklyn or the LES."

Necessary Objects Charleze Hobo | Large Structured Synthetic Handbag

The hobo has definitely undergone some changes in recent years. Once a crescent-shaped slouchy symbol of bohemian bliss, now it seems that anything goes!

The Charleze calls itself a hobo, but it's definitely not hippie-chic. There's a slightly relaxed feel, but this structured synthetic bag with its platform base has none of the slouch we expect from a hobo. The shape is more typical of a bucket bag than a crescent-shaped hobo too. These unexpected features make the Charleze look a lot more sophisticated and versatile. While traditional hobos suit maxi-dresses and casual music festival garb, this would look at home with a winter trench or even your office power suit!

Necessary Objects shows a little personality inside with its fun hand-drawn fashion lining. There's not a lot of personality shown when it comes to the design though. The zip and slip pockets are perfectly adequate, but they're nothing to rave about.

It might look uptown cool, but the Charleze is actually made from synthetic. The price reflects that, with this Necessary Objects hobo clocking in at $68. The pewter version has a glamorous charm, but I prefer the wintery appeal of this red bag. Red's almost regarded as a neutral now, so this tone promises to be more versatile than you'd first think.

Most Prezzo purses I've spotted are strictly after five affairs, with polished patent leathers, glittering sequins, and plenty of flair. So this Flower Shop handbag from the brand really comes out of left field.

This purse reminds me of a Radley bag, with its embroidered flower shop and playful personality. The vibrant thread contrasts with its black fabric background, ensuring the design really pops. It may not have the sequins and sass of many Prezzo purses, but a shrinking violet it is not.

Of course, that embroidered pattern is sure to polarize bagistas. Many will love its whimsical, almost Parisian look, while others will consider it juvenile and without charm. If you fall into the former camp, the design isn't likely to change your mind. Many fabric bags forget the features, but this isn’t one of them. There's a zippered pocket on the back, and another one inside. There's also a slip pouch which is perfect for holding your cell. A zip top closure keeps everything safe and sound.

For a mere $14.99, this is a fun bag for a trip to the farmers' markets or a picnic. It won't go with everything, or suit every occasion, but for that price I'm willing to overlook those limitation.

Necessary Objects Eden Clutch | Affordable Exotic Embossed Synthetic Patchwork Evening Purse

They say you should fake it until you make it. If your salary won't stretch to accommodate authentic snakeskin or crocodile, this embossed Necessary Objects clutch is a charming substitute.

Synthetic isn't the most opulent material, but I love the way it's been used here. I've seen embossed leather look far less convincing. The combination of snake and croc scales, not to mention mattes and metallics, could easily look tacky. But the complementary colors save it, creating interest without overwhelming. This olive green, pewter, and silver purse is my favorite, but there are a few more combos if this one doesn't suit.

Pop open the magnetic snap to reveal the playful spotted fabric lining. It's a fairly basic space, but its length is worth mentioning. This allows you to carry a little more than most clutches might, although bulky items are definitely out. You probably won't need your wallet though with a slip pocket tailor-made for carrying your cards. Add a small coin purse and you're good to go.

I'd love to see a shoulder strap for those long nights out, but I'm not surprised there isn't one. Brands can't give us the world for a mere $25 after all.

It's got a little name, but the Mia tote from Hype is big, bright, and bold!

This larger than life handbag has enough space inside to hold everything you need, and enough style to impress. The finish is billed as crocodile-embossed leather, but nobody is going to believe this is a genuine exotic. The tiny irregular squares appear more like a mosaic than crocodile scales, but perhaps that's okay. This surface may not be a convincing croc, but it's got its own charm that goes beyond mere imitation.

The drawstring adds a casual air, but it's not a very effective closure. It's fiddly to use, and contorts the bag into an overly puckered shape. With a zippered closure providing security back-up, I wonder why the drawstring was included at all!

Zippered pockets in the front add aesthetic and practical appeal. They're deep enough for stashing everything you need at your fingertips. Another slip pocket in the rear provides even more storage space.

And that's before we even get inside. The deep north-south shape is large enough to carry the things we need to survive the day, while a zippered pocket and three multifunctional slips help keep the clutter at bay.

The rolled shoulder straps are probably long enough for most girls to sling over their shoulder, but the removable longer strap provides a little extra versatility. It converts the tote to a cross-body bag, perfect for your daily commute.

With 11 different colors available, there's literally one to suit everybody. Conservative tastes may gravitate towards black or smoke gray, while more daring divas may prefer tango orange or this Aztec blue.

Gustto Picia Shoulder Bag | Ruched Patent Leather and Black Nylon Handbag

Gustto combines the party-appeal of patent leather with the relaxed charms of nylon to create the Picia. Under the hands of a lesser designer the combination could seem confused, but I think Gustto may have just pulled it off.

Without the patent leather, this nylon carryall would be shapeless, and frankly, a little boring. But that polished leather saves it. The ruched fold-over flap is the most obvious head turner, with its big bold silver hardware. But look closer and you'll see more of the glossy leather accenting the top of the Picia, its base, and the long shoulder straps.

The nylon lined interior is luxuriously large, offering enough space for everything you need to get through the day, and a few things you don't! But good luck keeping your precious cargo in order! The single zippered pocket just isn't enough to for such a roomy space.

It may have genuine patent leather details, but the $550 retail value seems far too much to pay for a nylon handbag, no matter how stylish. Thankfully it's currently on sale for less than half price at Endless.

Devi Kroell is the undisputed queen of the exotic. Her designs may not please PETA, but they're a favorite amongst fashion fans. It's not very politically correct, but it's hard to resist the charms of this Roman handbag.

The slouchy shape and casual styling is fairly traditional and tame. That allows the shiny snakeskin to take center stage. Each bag is painted by hand to ensure the colors are vibrant and long lasting. I love the rich, royal appearance of purple python, but it’s not for everyone. Thankfully the Roman is available in a range of colors in both python and eelskin.

We've also got some choices with the sizing. This large purse is on-trend, and ideal for making the transition from day to night. But if you're looking for something smaller, or less expensive, the Roman is also available in medium.

Girls downsizing don't miss out on the practical perks. Both sizes feature python leather cell pockets and iPod pouches. I'd appreciate a few more compartments, but when a bag looks so lovely I'm willing to forgive its shortcomings.

The bottom line is the price. Given that it's genuine hand-painted python leather, I know you're not expecting it to be cheap. $2,790 will never be considered small change, but it's not as daunting as I'd imagined!
