I've seen many designers attempt to reinvent the popular hobo handbag, but none have done it quite like Sondra Roberts.

The slouchy, relaxed profile we've come to expect is gone, replaced by a structured curved body. But the bohemian vibe isn't abandoned entirely, with natural canvas and twine fabrics woven together for an earthy feel. I love the wide vertical stripes created by the complementary fibers. The materials are casual, but the curved leather piping dresses things up a little. It's never going to be red carpet ready, but if you pair it with the right outfit it'd definitely suit a dinner date.

It's also got the space to make that day-to-night transition. You could easily carry a change of clothes and the cosmetics case you need to make the switch! There's also space for the essentials, with two open top pockets taking care of your gadgets and a zippered pocket for loose change and valuables.

I'm not sure the choice of natural fibers quite justifies the $310 retail price, but at least this purse has the style and quality craftsmanship to last a few seasons.

The Nausicaa may be a petite purse, but it's got plenty of style. The genuine leather body is stamped with a fun, if not altogether convincing, crocodile print. The sexy purple finish is complemented by silver-toned hardware. While there's a key for the retro key-lock closure, you don't really need it. It actually opens when the buttons on the front are pressed, which is much more convenient!

It might not seem practical at first glance, but I'm warming to the Nausiccaa. I've spent many embarrassing moments fumbling for a lost purse at the bottom of my bag, or scrounging for my car keys. By keeping the essentials close, this Furla shopper could make your next day at the mall a little less stressful.

Fossil Kristy Floral Satchel | Colorful Patterned Cotton Canvas Bag

This bright patterned Kristy bag satchel from Fossil can easily add a little color to your everyday wardrobe.

The soft, round body reminds me a little of the Marni Balloon tote. Of course, the cloth body means it's not nearly as luxurious, or pricy. The bold, abstract pattern won't suit every taste, but it's a lot of fun. So I'm not sure why Fossil breaks it up with a wide woven brown band. I suppose this plain fabric tones the bag down a little, but it also makes the design look a little cluttered.

The cotton canvas finish doesn't just keep the price down. It also makes the Kristy very light to carry. What a blessing in such a large bag! Even when it's full, this satchel isn't likely to weigh you down. The spacious interior is a challenge to keep organized, but zip and slip pockets do their best to help you out.

The wooden handles give the Kristy a little retro flair, but they're not very practical. Polished wood may be smooth, but it never feels good in your hand for very long. Thankfully the satchel comes with a longer, and more functional, shoulder strap. It's a little skinnier than I'd like, but it does the job. If you'd prefer to use the smaller handles, just detach the shoulder strap for a clean look.

Alexis Hudson Bloom Clutch | Patchwork Snake Print Leather Purse with Zipper Flower Details

This Alexis Hudson clutch is an antidote to all those purses playing it safe. The Bloom is a clutch that believes that too much isn't enough.

The shape is simple enough, with its rectangular design and recessed zipper. But that's about the only part of the Bloom which is low key. Curved swatches of snake print leather are overlaid to create a contemporary patchwork finish. The mushroom, tan, and dark blue shades work well together, but the python markings make it really busy. That's why this clutch really doesn't need the flowers which inspire its name. We recently saw Guiseppe Zanotti use similar zipper edged blooms on its wristlet. On that much simpler purse, they shone. But here they clutter an already crowded design.

The creamy colored interior comes as a shock after seeing the showy outside. The Bloom is lined with practical twill, but there's nothing to rave about here. It's long but slender, restricting us to evening essentials only.

The Bloom is the kind of clutch whose distinct looks will only appeal to certain girls. If it has stolen your heart, beware. Unless you pair it with a basic black ensemble, you're going to look very busy!

The obvious practical advantage of this bag is how roomy it is. It manages to allow for a lot of stuff without being shapeless or too structured. The silhouette may be a little puffy or bulky for some, but for the girl who wants to carry around everything, it's a great choice.

A removable shoulder strap makes it easier to tote, and you can keep everything organized with an exterior zipper pouch and multiple interior pockets.

Metal details, buckles, straps, fobs and chains mean the bag is heavy on hardware, and like most Rampage bags it's definitely on the trendy side. It will serve you well now, but don't expect to be toting it stylishly in a couple years.

This is also a youth-oriented bag, so I wouldn't plan on taking it to too many board meetings, no matter how much it holds.

Matt & Nat have a knack for creating environmentally-friendly handbags that don't skimp on style. The Zed tote is the label's answer to the oversized trend. It's a purse that's as big on looks as it is on practicality.

It's made from the brand's iconic Japanese Paper vegan leather, a cruelty-free alternative to textured calfskin. I love the way this mustard bag shows up every crease and crinkle, but for a subtler look you could opt for no-nonsense black or gray.

You might be a little confused once you open up the top zips. Matt & Nat wouldn't line their bags in suede, would they? You're right, they wouldn't. Instead they've cleverly recycled plastic bottles to mimic the soft fabric we all know and love!

Oversized handbags often become unmanageable, but you needn't have such concerns with the Zed. Instead of one massive main compartment, there are two smaller ones. These spaces are much easier to organize so you needn't feel overwhelmed. While the short handles don't do the bag any favors, at least the Zed comes with a practical shoulder strap. I only wonder why you'd ever remove this convenient feature!

While the Zed is a big bag, it's also a relatively slender one. That gives the Zed the chic styling often missing in oversized purses. Without the bulk, the Zed wouldn't look out of place in the board room or a classy restaurant.
