In the tradition of Valentino's Rose handbags comes this more affordable, yet far less luxurious, Big Buddha Mia bag.

If your budget can stretch, I'd pass this one over for the Valentino alternative. While the rose is just as flirty and feminine, the stiff synthetic doesn't fall as softly as an authentic leather would. The snakeskin finish is also a little too garish for this already heavily decorated look. While the colors are sedate, a plain fabric would have made the large ruffled flower appear a little more elegant.

But it's not all bad news. The traditional domed satchel shape maximizes the space available, while pockets inside and out help your belongings stay organized. The curved carrying handles are cute, but they'd be a little awkward to use once your satchel's loaded up. That’s when the longer strap comes into play, allowing you to sling the Mia over your shoulder or across your entire body.

I may prefer the similar Valentino purse, but not everyone can afford to drop a few thousand dollars on a satchel. At just $85 the Mia does a fairly credible impersonation of the more expensive accessory.

There isn't much fancy to this Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles nostalgic purse. After all, it is simple in black leather, which adds quality to a childish image. Leather wallets are always great for looking and feeling classy, and generally last longer than alternative synthetic fabrics. Rafe Ali Tote Bag | Vibrant Yellow Crocodile Stamped Carryall Handbag

Classic style and an unexpected splash of color prove an irresistible combination in the Rafe Ali tote.

It may not be made of authentic crocodile, but it is crafted from genuine leather. Of course, for $775 retail you'd expect nothing less. While it's not exactly inexpensive, it is a quality alternative to the prohibitively pricy exotic skin. The scaly stamped leather is lovely, although I can't imagine mistaking it for the real deal.

The bright yellow color probably adds to this not-quite real illusion, but it's not all bad news. This tote is so traditional that it really needs that striking shade to save it from blending into the background. The contemporary leather plates around the zippered pocket and corners also add interest. And it doesn't hurt that they prevent wear and tear.

The hardware is just the start of the practical perks. The pockets inside are reinforced with more of that lovely bright leather. Again it's about strength more than style, although the trim does look great! The space is generous without being ginormous. You'll find room for a magazine and other luxuries, but you won't get lost.

I can't help imagining how this tote would look paired with a basic black jacket or charcoal trench. Who says yellow bags are just for summer? This would help brighten up any stormy gray day!

Necessary Objects Eden Clutch | Affordable Exotic Embossed Synthetic Patchwork Evening Purse

They say you should fake it until you make it. If your salary won't stretch to accommodate authentic snakeskin or crocodile, this embossed Necessary Objects clutch is a charming substitute.

Synthetic isn't the most opulent material, but I love the way it's been used here. I've seen embossed leather look far less convincing. The combination of snake and croc scales, not to mention mattes and metallics, could easily look tacky. But the complementary colors save it, creating interest without overwhelming. This olive green, pewter, and silver purse is my favorite, but there are a few more combos if this one doesn't suit.

Pop open the magnetic snap to reveal the playful spotted fabric lining. It's a fairly basic space, but its length is worth mentioning. This allows you to carry a little more than most clutches might, although bulky items are definitely out. You probably won't need your wallet though with a slip pocket tailor-made for carrying your cards. Add a small coin purse and you're good to go.

I'd love to see a shoulder strap for those long nights out, but I'm not surprised there isn't one. Brands can't give us the world for a mere $25 after all.

Coach head back to its basic but luxurious roots with this traditional heritage tote.

Whilst Coach is known mainly for its patchwork purses, but I think its signature patterned satchel totes are actually some of the label's classiest creations. The brand isn't pushing the boundaries of fashion, but it is creating modern formal bags perfect for both work and play.

This purse in particular seems a cut above the rest. It has a slightly privileged feel, and wouldn't look out of place at a country club tennis match. Whilst the lemonade is being supped and the weddings arranged, smart bag owners are able to enjoy both the stunning coordinating blue satin lining and the cute Coach logo on the front.

There isn't much to say about this Coach tote. All in all it is a largely inoffensive but functional bag, with plenty of useful but flashy touches, such as the little name tags and the reinforced corners on the base. You may not make anyone pass out with desire over the innovative design, but its waterproof exterior will definitely do you proud.

Lodis is a brand that knows its niche. It’s not one to take risks, but the label always delivers chic and sophisticated accessories.

That might make the Arno Runway seem like a bit of a misnomer. When I think catwalk I think of cutting edge styles and fashion-forward looks. There's none of that envelope pushing here, so if you're after a head-turner you may be disappointed.

But if you're already a fan of Lodis, or you're simply after an accessory that's traditional and timeless, prepare to be impressed. Just $118 seems like a steal for this genuine leather clutch. The berry-colored calfskin is stamped with exotic crocodile scales. Keeping the scales uneven and irregular gives the purse an authentic air missing in many embossed accessories. I might just be fooled by this one if I didn't know better!

It's not a large purse by any means, but the long, slim design strikes the balance between space and sophistication. Inside you'll find a zippered pocket for loose change and an ID slot for your cards. A magnetic closure beneath the flap keeps your party essentials in order.

In a world of metal-strapped clutches, the leather handle is a godsend. How refreshing to wear a strapless dress to a party and not suffer unsightly chain marks on your shoulder! La Regale Antique Tapestry Purse | Beaded Gold Floral Vintage Bag

Unless you told me that this was a La Regale handbag, I'd never have known. The brand normally favors minimalist, classic designs, but this vintage purse offers something else!

Traditional embroidery works with glitzy colored beads and sequins to create this tapestry design. The floral motif reminds me of the kind of pattern you might spot on a cushion in your grandmother's sitting room. That does make it authentically vintage I suppose, but I prefer my old-world fashions to be a little more rooted in modern styles. This busy design looks a little stodgy to me.

The antique appearance is only emphasized by the colored beads which form the dual handles. If it was your cup of Earl Grey, I suppose you'll like the extra splash of vintage. For me it's simply too much, not to mention a little impractical.

If you've fallen for the look, the interior isn't likely to change your mind. The satiny lining is lush, and the handy pocket for cards and cash is a little more than we might expect in an evening bag. You'll also find enough space for your lipstick, and a compact for powdering your nose!

I worry about beads and sequins going astray in time, but at least this La Regale evening purse won't break the bank. At $80 retail, this La Regale offers something a little different for vintage fashion fans.

The Kathrine Baumann website says the price is on application, so I'm not expecting it to come cheaply. I think this one might be for die-hard Barbie fans only!

Luxury Handbag Brands Still Popular in China Despite Financial Crisis

Luxury handbag brands may have fallen out of favor in Japan, but they're just as popular as ever in China. A new study shows the financial crisis hasn't dented China's enthusiasm for designer bags, watches, and jewelry.

The study by New York market research firm Pao Principle looked at the buying habits of 448 affluent people from mainland China. It found that nearly 90% of those surveyed had bought a designer bag in the past year.

Nearly two-thirds of men, and a third of women, also bought a luxury watch last year, while another 30% said they’d splurged on jewelry from designers like Tiffany & Co.

"The one-child policy has spawned a generation of more self-centered individuals whose primary goal is to differentiate themselves from their peers," the marketing firm said. "No longer content to be one of the crowd, this group looks to luxury goods to help achieve this goal."

A Chinese government stimulus package and record lending by the country's banks have helped China achieve 8% growth this year, by far the fastest rate of any major world economy.
