There are versatile evening bags that easily accessorize just about any party outfit, and then there are the ones that make you long for a party. This Inge Christopher Alexis clutch is just the kind of evening bag around which I would plan an entire outfit for an event and be itching to use.

It might not be as showy as some options like the La Regale Pleated Bow Clutch, but the Alexis flap clutch has some very unique details that set it apart from other evening bag choices. The metallic silver sheen on the delicately pleated silk-blend fabric isn't entirely uncommon for this style of purse. However, the extras are what kick it up a notch.

One side of the front flapover closure has been decorated with thin chains that have been artfully arranged in a surprisingly soft feature. The chains wind around large Swarovski crystals also set into the design. The combination of the metallic fabric mixed with silver chain and shimmering crystals sounds like it would be too overwhelming for one little clutch bag, but I actually love the way it comes together.

Kathrine Baumann's trademark Swarovski crystals help to recreate everyone's favorite plastic doll. Golden sparkling gems make up her iconic blonde mane, while blue stones give her eyes just the right sparkle.

This is a tiny purse, and storage space is compromised by that head shape. Think bare basics ladies. You'll be able to carry your cash and cards, but you may need to ask your boyfriend to hold the rest of your essentials!

But practicality isn't entirely abandoned, with Kathrine Baumann providing a convenient golden chain strap. There are also additional Swarovski crystals, so you can easily fix any bald spots that develop in time.

This is a very faithful tribute, but I think it'd be a little creepy to carry a severed doll's head about. And that's before I even know the bottom line. The Kathrine Baumann website says the price is on application, so I'm not expecting it to come cheaply. I think this one might be for die-hard Barbie fans only!

Kathrine Baumann is famous for her beautiful, yet entirely impractical, minaudieres. But the designer shows she can craft a usable accessory with this gorgeous evening bag.

At first glance it doesn't look too different from those minaudieres. The body is still studded with Swarovski crystals, creating a floral pattern which is just as dramatic as the rest. But the size and shape make this a lot more functional.

The hexagonal design is a little more interesting than a traditional box shape, but it doesn't compromise storage space. While you could never call it oversized, there's so much more room than you'll find in a minaudiere. You'll still need to leave the luxuries at home, but at least the essentials should fit inside!

Unlike the minaudieres, this purse also comes with an extra long shoulder strap. You could even carry it cross-body style, but that might just undermine its elegance. If you'd rather carry it clutch style, you can easily remove the strap. It's a handy feature which ensures you don't fill up the purse with a strap you’re not using.

Just 500 of these evening purses were made, so it's no surprise to see it priced at $3237.50. Of course, that doesn't make it hurt any less!

I can never make up my mind about Jimmy Choo handbags. The iconic brand and legendary status make their evening bags exciting, and the materials are luxurious, but sometimes they forget to produce something a little "different."

This bag is a great example. Taken as a generic handbag, the slouchy shape and buckled handle are quite cute. It is once when you add the Jimmy Choo name and the astounding price tag that things start to look a little unreasonable.

All the complaining out of the way, however, and what you have in front of you is a pretty black evening bag, a staple for any wardrobe. Much like the famous little black dress, a simple design and luxury feel will accompany you for any occasion. With the little decorative clasp and Swarovski crystals you have real class and a purse perfect for an evening out!

All in all this is a comfy and spacious shoulder bag with luxury crepe exterior and an expensive crystal front. It still costs a lot at $537, but at least it is Jimmy Choo!

This head-turning beauty is the King Tut, modeled after the Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun. In rich styling befitting this rich boy king, his likeness is rendered in gorgeous gold. It's certainly not when you need to carry much because, like so many minaudieres, storage space is skint. And the space even includes a tuckaway chain strap for some hands-free fun.

But this ostentatious Egyptian purse doesn’t come cheaply. In fact, it'll set you back $2487.50. That's not so bad when compared to other gem-encrusted minaudieres, but that doesn’t make the bottom line hurt any less!

Okay, I won't lie. I've never really been a woman on the Judith Leiber bandwagon. I went to one of her stores in Las Vegas and was literally dumbfounded by the prices and the bizarre array of multicolored crystals. But, since there's an exhibit of her designs not ten blocks from my home, I thought I'd give her line another look. 

Truthfully, I still don't really get what the fuss is about. Of course, my personal aesthetic is basically all black, denim and leather, so who's surprised? But this parrot really caught my eye. The striking red color and multicolored accents, I have to admit, are masterfully rendered. Even the markings around the parrots eyes are realistic, or at least as realistic as Swarovski can get.

The hard-shelled little purse isn't the height of practicality, but you can pretty much see that by looking at it. This is for a big night on a big town and almost nothing in between. The 7" handle drop ensures that this pretty birdie stays close at hand, which it really should with a $5,695 price tag. 

The gold leather lined interior is almost as opulent as the exterior, and well-arranged with a simple patch pocket. This is luxury at its most whimsical, coming soon to an opera house near you.

One of my handbag ambitions is to own a Judith Leiber minaudiere. Their prohibitive prices and practical restrictions are a big stumbling block, but once I win the lottery I'm going to buy one of those gem encrusted beauties.

I'm not sure of the wearability of the eye-catching animal clutches she favors, so I'd probably opt for something like this leopard print minaudiere. Leopard print may be a little gaudy, especially in this candy pink, but it always seems to come back into vogue.

Swarovski crystals in varying shades of pink give this purse a graduated look. They're offset by black and silver gems, which form the leopard spots. The vintage curved shape is enhanced by an old-style pushlock closure made of onyx. Gold framing completes the elegant design.

Minaudieres have their limitations, and this one's no exception. Its petite stature and structured design doesn't afford us a lot of storage room, although it's significantly better than the oddly-shaped animal purses Judith Leiber often produces! The skinny snake strap doesn't look made for comfort or harsh treatment, but it is lovely to have a hands-free carrying option.

This Judith Leiber minaudiere won't be to everyone's tastes, with its distinctive look and practical limitations. But for those with their heart set on it, those flaws won't matter a bit!

In short, there is none. Sure, it opens up to reveal a luxurious gold leather lined space, but what exactly are you going to put in it? The lumps and bumps of the dog shape make it virtually impossible to store even the essentials inside. You'll need Tetris-inspired packing skills to carry even the coin purse, comb and swivel mirror it came with!

But if you can wear the price, and handle the inconvenience, you're going to sparkle carrying this Judith Leiber cutie!
