Celestina impresses again with this gorgeous Maricel Soriano clutch.

This dazzling evening purse is hand crafted from a red abalone shell. No designer's handiwork could equal the pearly mottled finish on the glossy surface Mother Nature's created. The round shell fits neatly into a copper frame. This beautiful clutch closes at the top with a gray amethyst clasp.

This purse is sexily slender, but that makes storing anything inside it almost impossible. It could fit loose change of course, but without any lining those coins will rattle around. A shoulder strap wouldn't have looked quite right, but you'll probably want one anyway as the hours wear on. This isn't the kind of purse you'd want to sit down after all!

The Maricel Soriano retails for a little more than $1000, a high price for something we'll only carry after five to be sure. But if you can stretch your budget, at least you know you're buying a truly unique show stopper!

I love the look of this Inge Christopher clutch. Visually, the creamy soft leather falls just right, and the delicate folded origami style is a mix of edgy and gently feminine.

Even better, the design is stronger than it looks, and won't need constant rearranging into the perfect shape, thanks to the deceptively elegant shrunken leather.

Looks-wise the bag is flawless. From the sumptuous satin lining to the unique designer exterior, I don't know what flaws to mention. Of course the ivory will stain and discolor easier than the other shades, but if you are spending $250 on a purse you should be willing to look after it!

Even better, the functionality ticks a whole load of boxes. The slouchy shape folds over, but has a zip fastening too to prevent your belongings escaping if dropped. The optional handle is chain, but at just the right length; not too long and not too short. The interior pocket is handy, and the size is spacious.

All in all, I love this bag. I don't like it as much in gray or brown, but in the ivory it is elegant and dramatic and really designer.

With this sterling silver minaudiere, Celestina designer Tina Maristela-Ocampa shows us what her magic touch can bring to metal.

The brand is more famous for its abalone and mother-of-pearl clutches, but this gorgeous minaudiere is no less striking. In fact, by dabbling in an unexpected medium, Celestina ensures this evening purse really stands out. The sterling silver exterior is given a modern lift with a stunning crocodile texture. Each scale is meticulously rendered to create this dramatic finish. These scales are mimicked by two faceted smoky topazes, which form the minaudiere's closure.

The sumptuous suede lining ensures this sterling silver purse doesn't become a rattle once it's packed with party essentials. It really is a matter of essentials only though, as such a tiny clutch will never offer a lot of storage space. If you're used to oversized clutches that might pose a problem, but I think the looks are incentive enough to scale back.

If the size doesn't put you off, the price just might. Celestina clutches are never cheap, and at $2,150 this is more expensive than most. Still, if you can stretch your budget to buy it, this glamorpuss is bound to work its magic for years to come.

Calvin Klein seem to like woven design techniques on their handbags at the moment. Their latest addition, this Liquid Leather Wristlet, features elegant weave on a small clutch scale.

I particularly love the color of this wristlet. Available also in black and "chino", this patent purse works best in the bright tangerine orange shade that catches eyes and hits trends with minimal effort. Vogue-style orange shade aside, this small clutch revels in a combination of luxury patent leather interwoven with coordinating ribbon. The textures build up depth, and the combination of bondage patent and little girl ribbon at once seems both risque and innocent.

Musings about the fabrics of this Calvin Klein handbag over and done with, I must mention that whilst the outside is modern luxury through and through, the shiny silver/pearl satin interior adds a somewhat strange contrast. Not only to the two colors not work together(they don't even clash in a fashionable way!), but silver satin in combination with patent leather always risks looking tacky.

If you ignore the lining of this tiny woven wristlet, then the rest of the purse with its hardware logo and folded top is actually quite desirable. It's pricey, at $138 dollars, but probably the most desirable seville orange handbag going.

You may not have heard of Tina Maristela-Ocampo, yet, but her Celestina clutches are quickly becoming some of the most coveted accessories in the world. The Manila-based designer uses the natural resources of her home city as inspiration and material. The purses, called "minaudières" are small, unique, and Anna Wintour included them in Vogue's list of 2008's must have accessories.

This superb Abalone Felipa clutch certainly lives up to the label's reputation. The geometric shape that the abalone shells have been cut into brings out all their natural nuances, and their meticulous placement into the 3D design of the clutch emphasizes the dimensionality of the colors and textures.

The 7" x 4" x 3" makes the clutch comfortable to carry, but not exactly practical for carrying a lot of things. But, then again, nothing about this clutch is practical: the materials are rare and fragile, the size is small, and the price is high. It is as much a work of art as a fashion accessory.

Nonetheless, as a fashion accessory it is exquisite. The green abalone has been diamond cut, and is edged with macassar ebony. The simple sleek design of the bag really allows the luminosity of the natural materials to show through. This clutch is for a woman with an appreciation for rarified goods that is looking for a unique piece to add to her collection.

Coach knows just how to tease us with pearlized leathers in plum and metallics to get us in the mood for fall when there's still weeks left of summer.

Its new Cambridge Collection, available online now, will hit stores September 1. The collection includes five styles including my favorite: the Cambridge Zip Top Tote in plum shown at right. Other styles include the Alexa, a doctor-bag style in both a fringe and non-fringe version, a zip-tastic foldover clutch and a roomy hobo.

"This upcoming season the collections embrace a broad range of attitudes with a variety of new silhouettes and subdued colors in an array of handbags and accessories. Inspired by the season's inherent sophistication and the many iterations of New York City style, the various collections prove to be innovative and directional. With a downtown sensibility and refined color palette the bags are fashioned out of ultralight pearlized calfskin leather with spectator-inspired contrast trim and burnished amber or gunmetal hardware.

Prices range from $298 for a clutch to $1,200 for the centerpiece Fringe Alexa.

I always feel a sense of pride when I come across a lovely design in a handbag that doesn't cost the earth. With this delicate purse from Miracle, you can get unusual retro looks for the bargain basement price of $26.

As with most cheap and cheerful clutches, the beading and sequins on this clam shaped purse are likely to fall off more easily than with high-end brands. That aside, however, the delicate beaded design is quite charming to look at, with teardrop mother of pearl oyster shell dangling gently at the bottom, and the more lightweight glittery sequins gracing the top.

Perhaps my favourite feature is the contrasting circular wooden handles, which really stand out against the off-white fabric of the clutches exterior, and the brilliant white interior. Firstly the dark against the oyster is very aesthetically pleasing, and second the whole design reminds me of retro purses and 50s/60's fashion.

Whilst the design may actually be slightly impractical (have you ever tried carrying a bag with handles like this for hours at a time?), a little pain suffered for such a looker is a small price to pay. Good looking, unusal and affordable - this bag is great for keeping you going through the coming party season.

If you can design shoes, then you really ought to understand how to design handbags.  With the amazing heels that Jimmy Choo releases into the world, it is no surprise just how lovely his bags can be.

This slouchy black bag is a particularly special example. The slouchy ultra-soft leather almost gives the clutch an air of casual creation, almost as if a calf just happened to walk into some buckles, and voila! Whilst I suspect the construction of this designer purse was rather more complicated, it still retains a beautifully casual and easy-going shape.

Before you start thinking that this bag is overly simple and gentle, then don't worry. The multiple buckles bring a hint of the rocky and dramaticto this glossy purse, the gold hardware contrasting nicely with the deep color. These aren't over-the-top and ostentatious buckles however, they channel the trend brilliantly whilst still being discreet and wearable.

Whilst the chain handle probably isn't the most comfortable, I can't really find anything bad to say about this sexy little purse. It is spacious, comfortable, durable, and shouldn't go out of fashion easily. A stunner!

At first glance, this artistic bag looks designer. However, at only $20 a pop, this couldn't be further from the truth!

From its bakerlite-esque vintage style square handle to the structured pearl mosaic exterior, this little evening bag really does pull all the punches. It is a true eye-catcher, bold and beautiful. A delicate clutch such as this would look great combined with sweet pearls and blond hair, or with a smart dark suit. Either way, it wouldn't look out of place alongside the Chanel and Dior in your wardrobe!

The interior isn't as pretty as the outside, but you are the only one likely to see it. The sacrifice of sumptuous interiors in preference of designer influenced exteriors mean we can get the looks but at a fraction of the cost. Whilst it probably isn't built to last, it means that this pretty crowd-pleaser should survive the season, in order to be replaced with the next stunning bag to come along.

Definitely worth the money, this bargain basement recession-proof wonder is just the thing for keeping the purse strings tight, but the looks luxe.
