You never know quite what you're going to get with Louis Vuitton. Recent ads have featured pop queen Madonna and veteran astronauts. This time around the luxury label is back to fashion basics with a campaign fronted by model Missy Rider. Her steel blue gloved hands clutch a casual drawstring bag which bears Louis Vuitton's iconic signature print.

Former Louis Vuitton visionary, now Nina Ricci creative director, Peter Copping was inspired to create this vintage spread after reading a book about Paris during the Second World War. The look is very European, suitably sombre, and utterly elegant. The deep, rich tones are entirely appropriate for the cooler weather ahead.

The campaign's feminine retro-chic images were captured by photographer Daniel Jackson, who worked closely with Louis Vuitton's creative director William Snieg and stylist Katie Grand of Love magazine on the shots. The result manages to be a little different, yet unmistakably Louis Vuitton.

The details are modern, but you don't get the impression that they'll date any time soon.

The sophisticated exterior is backed up with a design that's made for everyday use. Alexis Hudson makes the most of the room, building a zippered pocket into one of the three multifunctional slips. There's also a dog leash clip, so you never have to worry about losing your keys in that generous space!

The $650 price tag is reasonable for a wardrobe staple like this. If the matte black variety is a little conservative for your tastes, consider it in the black and gray ombre leather.

Just another note in the Valentino is awesome file, the new Valentino Kaleidoscope Stone Tote has begun racking up a waiting list of pre-orders for fall 09.

The gradient stones that cover ever inch of the gray satin tote give the illusion of mirrors the way they catch the light. A slight ombre effect adds to the metallic shine. Nothing could have made this bag tacky faster than too sparkly rhinestones, but the ones chosen are absolutely perfect in their varying shapes, sizes and colors.

Again we are faced with the dilemma of the over-the-top fancy tote. We love them so but where would we wear them? Perhaps those with the very fanciest of lifestyles, which afford them $3,000 bags such as this, could wear something like this to lunch.

The texture of the bag, while visually stunning, would probably be another practical pitfall if we were concerned with such things as practicality when it came to Valentino bags.

So, another art piece we'd love to look at all day long, and certainly show off to the whole world, but would have difficulty actually executing.

Bulgari can effortlessly add a little luxury to your evening ensemble with this breathtaking lizard clutch.

Snake and crocodile skins may get all the accolades, but the small lizard scales have a delicate look which really catches the eye. The emerald green has a graduated ombre pattern, which is subtle, yet striking. It may not immediately strike you as practical, but just think of the pop of color this shade could bring. Of course, this kind of luxury never comes cheap. Most of us will have to think long and hard before spending more than $1500 on a purse that's strictly an after five affair. But it's so gorgeous that I'm tempted nonetheless!

Leave it to Sondra Roberts to come up with yet another affordable but striking bag. In some ways, SR Squared by Sondra Roberts reminds me of Jessica Simpson's handbag line because of the stylish styles offered at easily attainable price tags. Both brands also use a lot of synthetic leather material to keep the prices down.

Some of SR Squared's purses, though, are more offbeat and eyecatching than many of Jessica Simpson's. Like the Ruffle Satchel, the style of this Ombre Mermaid Hobo is meant to be unexpected and unique. It's the kind of handbag that you can't wear with everything but will most certainly be the only one around when you do carry it.

The Mermaid Hobo earns its name from the round faux leather pieces that lay on top of each other in rows, creating the appearance of a mermaid's scaley fin. The green color has an ombre effect that also mimics the look of the mythical creature and brings out the slight texture on the synthetic material.

It's hard to see the shape of this handbag because of the "scales", but the Mermaid Hobo is slim and flat with a slight flair at the bottom. The single strap seems like it would be comfortable enough, although the wrapped top seems like it could cut into the shoulder if you're carrying too many heavy items for an extended period of time. I do like the beaded detail on the handle, which reminds me of bubbles and adds to the Ombre Mermaid Hobo's underwater theme.

It's not exactly the Be & D Kan Kan, but the Ruffle Satchel from SR Squared by Sondra Roberts is a much more affordable alternative to the luxurious designer version. I wouldn't say it's a perfect option since the two styles are very different, but it's an excellent option for an inexpensive bag with the increasingly popular ruffled look.

One of the things that makes this Medium Ruffle Satchel so much fun is that it really does look like one big bunch of ruffles instead of just having a few rows here and there for detail. It's so incredibly feminine that you can't help but feel ultra-girly when accessorizing with it. 

Ramping up the feminine factor is the bright, shiny fuchsia material. Contrasting white piping on the handbag adds some pop and accentuates the ruffled feature. The color combination makes the SR Squared Ruffle Satchel much less understated than the Kan Kan, but this bold look will appeal to tons of personal tastes and aligns with current color trends as well.

It is very similar to the SR Squared Wave Shoulder Bag. However, this Sondra Roberts bag is better for the spring and summer seasons, whereas glossy snakeskin jewel tones like on the Wave are more appropriate for fall and winter.

Although the Ruffle Satchel isn't crafted from real leather, the synthetic material is acceptable and makes the bag within reach of most budgets. I might like the satchel even more without the shiny patent sheen, but it does seem like the type of handbag that's meant to stand out in every way possible. You can get this spunky SR Squared purse for only $80.
