Catherine Fossati Healey was inspired by her European heritage to create the Italian collection, her latest limited edition Fossati handbag line.

The range includes the romantically named Venice evening bag, and the Capri and Milano day bags. Each was inspired by the city which shares its name. They're all available in a range of exotic leathers, including leather, python, and ostrich. The luxury continues inside, with each purse lined with lush lambskin.

"Our luxurious lining adds to the pleasure of owning a Fossati handbag. The lining is light and bright to add a little extra measure of luxury and surprise," explained Ms Fossati Healey.

"Fossati handbags are designed for sophisticated women who value quality and scarcity over brand recognition."

The Italian Collection will make its debut at Henri Bendel's flagship store at 712 Fifth Avenue, New York from October 22 to 24. Catherine Fossati Healey herself will appear in store to coincide with the launch.

"Henri Bendel has a reputation for launching new brands, it's thrilling to have an opportunity like this," she said.

There's no word in pricing yet, but the sumptuous fabrics and limited edition designs guarantee the collection won't come cheaply!

Many of us can't afford a real crocodile leather handbag since exotics are going for quite a high price these days. Hermes might be farming their own crocs now to cut down on their in-house costs, but that doesn't mean that the retail prices we see will go down one bit.

That's why tons of brands are offering synthetic version of the material. It's no surprise that Jessica Simpson, with her plethora of affordable designs, has this classy little faux crocodile satchel. The Mint handbag isn't dirt cheap as it retails for just over $100, but that's small potatoes when you consider that the real thing can run for well into the triple digits.

There's something so chic about the Mint satchel in this neutral camel color. It's bound to go with more outfits than you can count on both hands. Sure, it also comes in denim blue and tangerine orange. However, the light brown on this bag is lovely.

I like the variance of textures on the synthetic leather. One seems to melt into another for an aesthetically pleasing result. A slight sheen adds to the effect and does a great job at bringing out the nuances. All in all, Jessica Simpson did a great job mimicking a popular, always-classic look.

If Muska Milano is nothing else, it's consistent. The fashion label creates traditional looking handbags from embossed leather replicating some of our favorite reptilian skins. It's never strayed from this vision with the lizard flap bag and imitation crocodile satchel, and its new tote bag is no different.

If you like the tote's trademark boxy looks, you'll have little to complain about here. But for me there's just not enough going on. The clever embossing does its best to replicate genuine crocodile skin, but it just doesn't have quite the tactile appeal to stand alone.

The exterior is a little snoozeworthy, but there's plenty to get excited about inside. Three massive storage compartments to be precise, plus a zip pocket, a slip pouch, and a cell phone pocket to be precise. With all those options, there's no excuse for clutter!

This Muska Milano tote also gives us plenty of choices when it comes to color. You could play it safe with the brown or burgundy bags, or have some fun with orange, powder blue, or this pretty pink option.

But ultimately the combination of bland design and mere imitation exotic doesn't encourage me to spend $725.

Muska Milano has recreated the look of prized crocodile leather with this beautiful satchel.

The embossed pattern mimics each reptilian scale so convincingly that no one needs to know you're not carrying an authentic exotic handbag. This racy red purse is just one of many colors available. The palette tends to be a little conservative, but with shades including black, chestnut, orange, white, and burgundy there should be one to suit almost every taste. Chic belted accents at the side of the bag help to dress up the basic design.

The interior is inspired, with a large zippered compartment dividing the satchel into three parts. A zippered pocket and a couple of slip pouches further aid organization, offering a place for your cell phone, spare change, and other small objects.

The shoulder straps are less impressive. While they're long enough, they're so thin that they're bound to leave marks on your shoulder. This satchel comes with a longer detachable strap, but it's only marginally wider. If you've got a lot of walking to do I suggest leaving your heavy objects at home.

I could overlook the handles if I wasn't running errands, but the price is another matter. I'm not sure Muska Milano has the profile to command $750 for a purse that isn't really as exotic as it pretends to be. Personally I'd rather invest in cheaper contemporaries like the Nine West Great Find tote or the Jessica Simpson Delia. Or you could just save up for the real deal!

The domed shape has a slight slouch thanks to the buttery-soft calf leather. The skin is subtly embossed with a snakeskin print and available in a range of classic colors. Black, brown, and tan are reserved, while navy blue and red are slightly more daring.

My favorite feature is the top clasp which is covered with small glittering crystals. The scalloped pattern with white and colored gems gives the purse an art deco look.

In keeping with the clutch's old-school styling, it's a little on the small side. That makes it perfect for hand-held carrying, but you'll need to scale back your "essentials."  A zippered pocket helps you make you most of the space on offer.

At $799 retail, this Muska Milano purse seems a little steep for an accessory you'll only carry after five. But if you're a social butterfly or red carpet regular, the asking price of this classic clutch may be a little easier to swallow.
