Louis Vuitton Lover Ashley Tisdale Asks for New Handbag This Christmas

Posted on: Nov 17

High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale should be able to afford most trinkets that catch her eye, but the 24-year-old star is still working on her Christmas wish list. Her most wanted item this year? A new purse of course!

"I love handbags, so I'm hoping for a new handbag," she told media at Bauer Publishing's M magazine Hollywood Halloween party in New York City recently.

She added that her strict parents, who wouldn't let her own a designer bag until she was 19, fueled her love of expensive labels like Louis Vuitton.

"I got my first Louis Vuitton at 19 from my parents. I usually get those kind of bags from my parents. It's not like I can just go shopping and buy all the designer bags I want because I don't think I'm at a place where I can do that." She added that, "I think it's more special when you get it as a gift."

I'll be scouring the fashion pages after Christmas to see whether Ms Tisdale is sporting a shiny new piece of arm candy!

50 Unusually Bold and Bizarre Bags 21-30

Posted on: Nov 16

The $52k Bag

This Louis Vuitton Tribute bag is made in France and is a patchwork mess of 14 Louis Vuitton bags. Louis Vuitton has definitely made a mark on the fashion industry, and many LV bags remain classics to this day. Somehow I don't imagine it to be the case with this one, despite the hype. Only 24 were made and Beyonce Knowles is one of the lucky owners of this $52,000 purse.

Undergarments Exposed

Many people like to keep their undergarments concealed under clothing, but others are proud to show them off. This bag celebrates the latter. These were in about seven years ago, no joke. They are stiff, have small entry zippers and only get so unique. Corsets are still in, but it will be up to you whether or not carrying this around town is an option.

A Bag Against Breast Cancer

Handbags made from bras are popular and are generally made and sold as a way to promote the fight against breast cancer and promote awareness. These are fairly simple to construct and make a positive statement. Although you may not carry it around on a daily basis due to the size and functionality, the cause is close to all of our hearts, so you should take the chance to fight it however you can.

Skunk Fur by Fendi

Although the skunk is not the best loved animal anywhere, we're sure PETA still doesn't appreciate this Fendi skunk fur purse. Does anyone know if skunk fur is soft though? Getting too close to one anywhere else would be a hazard. With such detail, this bag may be too much for some to handle. Decorated with the fur of a skunk, many would say this bag really stinks.

Chinese Take Out Bag

Love Chinese take out? This is the handbag for you. The design is clever and creative, to say the least. The use of materials to craft a small purse into the likeness of a take-out box speaks for itself. Just be sure to keep things straight; you wouldn't want anyone to dump noodles into your purse, unless you don't have anything else to pack your leftovers in.

Chicken Feet

Everyone loves a bag with form and function; classic structure mated with a creative twist make this accessory quite unique. We're sure this handbag is sure to get second looks. To protect the bottom of the bag from scuffs, it actually has feet. And not just any feet either; they are chicken feet. It looks like it's about to run away!

Toad Bag

This strange looking bag looks like an oversized toad. What's not to love? Plenty. Wait a second, you're right; it is an oversized toad. We don't have to get into all the issues you may come across carrying this beaut, like nausea and ugly looks, but one has to wonder how much actually fits inside of the bag. If nothing else, it can function as a glorified cell phone case.

A Swinging Dead Cat Bag

The design of this dead cat bag may not be a favorite for cat lovers, but it's definitely an attention getter. It doesn't look easy to carry, with an inflexible bar as the handle. It also seems relatively small, which wouldn't allow for many goodies, despite how inconveniently wide the purse is. How does it open? We hope it doesn't follow anatomy.

Peacekeeper Bag

Live in a rough neighborhood? This purse has a brass knuckle handle that shows thugs you're not to be messed with. But really, most reasonably sized purses can function as a decent whacker. We think this is more of a statement of attitude than statement of actual functionality. Although, it looks like the handle is removable, so you can get down to business if need be.

Russian Doll Handbag

This absolutely precious handbag is made from the outermost Russian nesting doll. It's unusual and completely irresistible. It would be a great little accessory for a night out on the town, and the classic colors allow for easy matching with many outfits. A wonderful plus is that it appears able to hold more than just a tube of lipstick, maybe ID, your cell, and some cash, which is something we all look for in a formal handbag.

Louis Vuitton Donates Online Sales to American Red Cross Charity

Posted on: Nov 14

The upcoming celebrity designer auction is just the start of Louis Vuitton's fundraising commitment to the American Red Cross. The luxury design house will donate 10% of this month's online sales of selected bags to the charity.

The fundraising drive commemorates the 150th anniversary of Louis Vuitton's Asnieres workshop. This location was the label's only production facility from 1859 to 1977. So many years later, Louis Vuitton's hard-frame luggage, special orders, exotic purses, and limited-edition lines are still crafted there today.

Donating to American Red Cross was a simple choice for the company's North American president, Daniel Lalonde.

"The Red Cross is committed to preventing and appeasing the sufferance of people weakened by instability and ever-growing de-humanization of our society. Louis Vuitton is honored to be aligned with such a significant and impactful organization," he said.

Bag lovers can do their bit by snapping up the brand's iconic Keepall, Speedy, Noe, or Alma purses. If you have ever considered buying one of these timeless styles, now's the time to do it!

Madonna New Face of Dolce & Gabbana Summer/Spring 2010 Advertisement

Posted on: Nov 13

You just can't keep the queen down. She may have been dumped by Louis Vuitton for the much younger Lara Stone and Daisy Lowe, but Madonna's already found another modeling gig. The Material Mom will front Dolce & Gabbana's spring/summer 2010 campaign.

Acclaimed photographer Steven Klein shot the ads in New York last week, and the designers say they're thrilled with the "simply beautiful" images of Madge.

"To have Madonna in our campaign is a dream come true," designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana added.

This isn't the first time the talented trio has worked together. D&G were behind the costumes Madonna used for her Girlie Show in 2003 and last year's Sticky & Sweet tour. I don't expect anything quite so outrageous for Dolce & Gabbana's next collection; the fashions have to be worn by mere mortals after all. Yet Dolce & Gabbana has a habit of surprising us, so you just never know!

Daisy Lowe and Lara Stone to Model for Upcoming Louis Vuitton Ad Campaigns

Posted on: Nov 10

The news buzzing around Louis Vuitton's future advertising campaigns right now is that Madonna is out to make way for some fresh faces. The European style pre-fall starring with Missy Rayder were a hint of this change in direction, but the recently confirmed faces of the luxury brand are even more of a shift.

Following in some famous footsteps including Madonna, Naomi Campbell, and other recognizable faces is edgy new "it" model Lara Stone. The Dutch beauty is set to star in the label's upcoming spring/summer 2010 campaign.

Stone isn't the only hip, twenty-something model chosen by Louis Vuitton, however. Young but experienced Daisy Lowe will also star in upcoming ads for the brand. The previous face of Marc by Marc Jacobs will be starring in a sexy shoot showcasing LV's ready-to-wear spring/summer 2010 beachwear range that will also include shoes, bags, and accessories.

Though there's no word yet on particular themes for the upcoming photo shoots, both are guaranteed to be interesting and possibly provide a much-needed infusion of excitement for Louis Vuitton.

Louis Vuitton and Naomi Campbell Collaborate for Charity | Proceeds Benefit White Ribbon Alliance

Posted on: Oct 9

Naomi Campbell might have quite the reputation when it comes to ridiculously violent reactions to seemingly innocent situations. However, the international supermodel also has a well-known heart for charity work.

Campbell has collaborated with luxury design brands before to benefit charity, such as her Hermes Birkin bag auction for the White Ribbon Alliance. Well, she's at it again to help out the pregnancy and childbirth focused organization, but this time with Louis Vuitton.

As global ambassador of the White Ribbon Alliance, the model has chosen a signature monogrammed LV handbag to retail in the company's stores, with part of the proceeds from sales going directly to the worthwhile organization.

Although we don't have a name yet for the upcoming handbag, we do know that it will retail for roughly $2, 800. You'll be able to get your hands on the new Louis Vuitton purse next March right around Women's Day.

Naomi summed things up with a short, and maybe slightly defensive, quip about this type of collaboration:

"People say fashion people don't do anything. We do a lot," she said.

She does surprise me with her commitment to the White Ribbon Alliance, but I'd certainly never say she doesn't do anything.

Japan Shuns Luxury Handbag Brands | Versace Closes Doors in Osaka, Tokyo, and Chiba

Posted on: Oct 9

Once Asia's luxury shopping epicentre, Japan seems to be losing its taste for luxury brand. Last year LVMH decided to can plans for a new Louis Vuitton flagship store in Tokyo's Ginza shopping district. Now Versace has gone a step further, announcing it plans to shut down its Japanese stores. The luxury fashion label currently has outlets in Osaka, Tokyo, and Chiba.

A statement from the company says that Versace's Japanese boutiques "no longer represented the brand image and it was felt to be more advantageous for the company to close them and start with a clean slate."

Experts say the Japanese are following world trends for discreet luxury, without the logos and obvious branding of many mass-marketed lines. Instead, the new breed of Japanese stylistas prefer to mix and match outfits with high and low-end fashion items. Whatever the reason behind the shift, it's bad news for a fashion industry already struggling in the face of the financial crisis.

CovetShop.com Offers Online Consignment for Designer Handbags, Clothing, Shoes, and Accessories

Posted on: Oct 7

We've all heard of the clever Avelle site (originally known as Bag Borrow or Steal) that lends out designer goods for a pretty penny, but there are plenty of other websites out there to help a budget fashionista keep to her financial goals without sacrificing style.

Now there's a new kid in town ready to relieve shoppers of their designer items and sell them online for consignment. CovetShop.com is a rather brilliant, though not totally original, business model that guarantees 100% authenticity as well as the nearly perfect condition of the items they consign. The online shop even reminds me of Net-A-Porter with its simple look and easy-to-navigate site.

If you've got a few Jimmy Choos, Louis Vuitton bags, and Chloe designs lying around that you'd like to get some cash for, you might consider Covet Shop's consign online program. It's a basic process where you they authenticate, photograph, and post your item to sell. There are subsequent markdowns on each item after 30 and 60 days. Once sold, however, the company will pay you 60% of the final selling price.

If you're in New York City, you can simply contact Covet Shop for an appointment to discuss your designer bags, shoes, clothing, or accessories. If not in NYC, those wishing to consign can just e-mail the company with their information. Be sure to read Covet Shop's full description of their consignment process.

Send in those past designs just gathering dust on the shelf to get some cash to upgrade for the new season.

Hermes to Acquire Asprey’s Bond Street Location in London

Posted on: Sep 28

Luxury brand Hermes seems to be riding over the wave of economic crisis with only a mere splash or two of disturbance. Somehow this label is defying the odds in a fashion industry that is simply trying to tread water.

With new stores and pop-up boutiques opening, Hermes continues to expand thanks to promising profits. It is furthering its fashion expansion with a new acquisition. Apparently, the brand is in the process or purchasing an auspicious location on the corner of London's reputable Bond Street.

The location is currently occupied by struggling luxury jewelry and accessories brand Asprey. Hermes will obtain the building and maybe even the business. Hermes wasn't the only luxury brand with its eyes on the advantageous spot though. Chanel reportedly had an interest in the London location before Hermes beat them to it.

Although acquiring Asprey's building sounds like a smart move and right up a booming label's alley, I'd be somewhat surprised to hear a confirmation of Hermes taking over more than Asprey's current housing on Bond Street. I suppose we'll have to wait to find out if the second part of the rumor is true or not.

Photographer Annie Leibovitz and Others Design for Louis Vuitton | Auction to Benefit the Red Cross

Posted on: Sep 24

Famed fashion photographer Annie Leibovitz is stepping out from behind the lens for a new project. After years of capturing images for photo shoots and a recently publicized financial woes involving a Supreme Court lawsuit, Leibovitz is trying her hand at a different kind of fashion career: designing handbags.

The photographer, whose work with Vanity Fair and labels like Dior and Louis Vuitton is well-known, has joined British artist Damien Hirst, Marc Jacobs, and others for a special design project to create limited edition Louis Vuitton bags. Their designs will be auctioned off at Sotheby's in London on November 17. It's not for fame or fortune, however, since the auction will benefit the Red Cross in celebration of their 150th anniversary.

Leibovitz's design is a large monogrammed backpack trimmed in black leather with a matching shoulder bag. A photography equipment-holding backpack isn't exactly Louis Vuitton's typical product, but something tells me that no one is questioning the photographer-turned-designer's talent.
