The hobo has definitely undergone some changes in recent years. Once a crescent-shaped slouchy symbol of bohemian bliss, now it seems that anything goes!

The Charleze calls itself a hobo, but it's definitely not hippie-chic. There's a slightly relaxed feel, but this structured synthetic bag with its platform base has none of the slouch we expect from a hobo. The shape is more typical of a bucket bag than a crescent-shaped hobo too. These unexpected features make the Charleze look a lot more sophisticated and versatile. While traditional hobos suit maxi-dresses and casual music festival garb, this would look at home with a winter trench or even your office power suit!

Necessary Objects shows a little personality inside with its fun hand-drawn fashion lining. There's not a lot of personality shown when it comes to the design though. The zip and slip pockets are perfectly adequate, but they're nothing to rave about.

It might look uptown cool, but the Charleze is actually made from synthetic. The price reflects that, with this Necessary Objects hobo clocking in at $68. The pewter version has a glamorous charm, but I prefer the wintery appeal of this red bag. Red's almost regarded as a neutral now, so this tone promises to be more versatile than you'd first think.

Coach Sues Target for Copyright Infringement | Retail Chain Sells “Confusingly Similar” Purses

Luxury handbag label Coach has filed a lawsuit against Target, alleging that the retail giant has infringed upon its intellectual copyright.

In a lawsuit lodged at the United States District Court in Manhattan last Thursday, Coach claims Target is selling handbags "confusingly similar" to its Ergo and Signature Patchwork collections.

"Target is not authorized by Coach to manufacture, distribute, advertise, offer for sale and/or sell merchandise bearing the Ergo designs or the Signature Patchwork designs," the lawsuit said.

The lawsuit includes claims of trademark infringement and unfair competition.

Target is pleading ignorance on this one, with a spokeswoman claiming "We are currently looking into this situation and working with our vendor partner.

"It always has been - and continues to be - Target's policy to respect the intellectual property rights of others."

It'll be interesting to see how this case goes. We've seen the luxury labels take down many small brands creating obvious counterfeits, but a firm with the might of Target may be another story.

Oversized Handbags Put Female Motorists at Risk

We already knew oversized handbags are an ergonomic nightmare which put us at risk of identity theft, but now it seems there are a few more reasons to ditch our large totes. A study by insurance company Sheilas' Wheels shows that enormous bags pose a serious threat to female motorists.

Women favoring the huge handbags spend an average of 416 hours of their lives rummaging for “buried” car keys. While it's astounding, it probably seems like little more than an inconvenience. But when you consider the safety risk this behavior poses, the situation becomes a little serious.

A third of the women surveyed said they felt anxious about finding their keys when traveling alone or late at night. 12% of women were victims of bag snatching crimes, while 28% felt they were being followed when returning to their vehicles.

"Two of the most important things a woman can do to improve her safety is to stay aware of her surroundings and to avoid potentially dangerous situations," explained Jenny Fawson, director of personal safety at the Suzy Lamplugh Trust.

"If you are distracted from your surroundings because you are chatting on your mobile, listening to an MP3 player or rummaging about in your bag for keys, you will be less likely to see danger approaching and therefore less likely to be able to avoid it."

It's also an idea to stash keys safely in your bag's zippered pocket or external pouches, or ditch the big bags altogether when flying solo.

This black Coach patchwork bag breathes an urban feel and shines with a variety of detailed patched shades. What is essentially a basic style bag is transformed into something more hip with the variety of detailed patched fabric. The various irregular patches include:

This bag is part of Coach’s Zoe line although it is a rarer model and doesn’t appear to be available directly from the Coach website any longer. I find the black and silver patchwork style of this bag gives more oomph over the regular Zoe line, which, while elegant, may be a bit plain for some of the more adventurous fashionistas. The dark irregular patterns of this bag add a funky metropolitan twist to the otherwise unadorned Zoe style.

The dark urban shades of this designer purse scream a night time party, but this bag is probably a little on the big side for clubbing, pubbing and dance floors. This leaves the bag being more suitable for the more relaxed evening occasion, and big enough for most day to day city use.

Coach Sues Brown Shoe for Replica Ergo Pleated Purse

Coach is taking a stand against those replica handbags, filing a lawsuit against Brown Shoe Co. Inc.

The luxury label says the brand sells a purse that is "virtually an exact copy" of the Coach Ergo Pleated handbag. The designer imitation is available through Brown Shoe's Naturalizer store chain. Coach is seeking an injunction, damages for the profits it would have made, any profits Brown Shoe's made from the patent, and other unspecified damages.

Looking at the Naturalizer website, this may not be the retailer's last lawsuit. It features plenty of purses which bear more than a passing resemblance to our favorite Yves Saint Laurent and Foley + Corinna accessories.

I definitely don't mind smaller retailers offering on trend purses at more affordable prices than the high-end designers, but a little originality wouldn't go astray. All these rip-off merchants do is devalue those gorgeous designer originals, which isn't good for anyone in the long run.

Tod's is known for creating beautiful luxurious simple accessories that women all over the world love. Their leathergoods are some of the finest available, which is why I am so intrigued when they choose to make things of other materials, such as this Pashmy Luna Nylon Media Bag.

Pashmy is the name of this line of bags, and Luna definitely refers to the half moon shape of this satchel. Media bags, originally a description used for camera and laptop bags, usually contain a variety of organizational compartments, and this one is no exception. I am pleasantly surprised by the remarkably utilitarian design of this bag, which is unusual for a luxury goods line such as Tod's.

There are three exterior zippered compartments, perfect for keeping all your essentials organized and available. There is an additional interior zipped pocket, and a zipper along the sides of the bag extends the size, which makes it great whether you need to carry a little or a lot. The patent handles will also be a help there, as they are both super durable and adjustble.

Practical as it is, the Pashmy Luna isn't bad in terms of looks, either. The deep chocolately brown is rich, and the patent trim details add the perfect amount of shine. I love the intricate tonal topstitching, it creates an almost quilted look to the bag, but still stays modern.

This is a practical and minimal bag for a woman on the go who is more concerned with a bag's functionality than its status.

Celine Les Cuirs Sulky Tarpan Shoulder Bag | Sophisticated Chocolate Brown Designer Shoulder Bag

Celine is one of those fashion houses that has been around forever, yet never goes out of style. Perhaps it is the understated charm of the designs that keeps them elite, but more likely it is the price tag. Which is not to say that their designs aren't worth the money. It all depends on what you happen to be in the market for.

The Celine Les Cuirs Sulky Tarpan Shoulder Bag presents quite a mouthful of foreign words for us ugly Americans, but the meaning of them is relatively simple. Les cuirs are simply the tanned skins of animals, and a tarpan is a wild horse, which I assume refers to the utilitarian shape of the bag rather that the materials. I probably don't have to tell you what sulky means, and it's a cute way to describe a slightly floppy bag.

Semantics aside, the bag is constructed of deliciously supple chocolate brown leather, and I love the shape, from the softly rounded edges to the accordion expanding sides. The patch reinforcements at the bottom of the bag are a lovely and practical touch. The flap front closes with a gorgeous goldtone clasp that attaches to the handle by a chain.

In the pictures, I don't love the circular handle, but on a person, it makes the Sulky Tarpan look sleek and ergonomic. The goldtone rings that attach the handle to the bag look a little rickety, but are actually well-constructed and sturdy, as far as I can tell. They lend the bag a little delicate feminine touch on what is an overwhelmingly masculine bag, reminiscent of some vintage briefcase styles.

Overall, I really like the look of the Les Cuirs Sulky Tarpan bag, as unwieldy as its name might be. It has the classic good looks that staunch traditionalists will love, and a practical utilitarian appeal for the rest of us.

Since 1981, Linea Pelle has been handcrafting high quality leather accessories. They use washed Italian leathers, which give them a unique worn-in look and feel. The carefully thought out, trend-driven details of the Dylan Croco shoulder bag are typical of Linea Pelle, which has become a celebrity favorite for the likes of Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton.

For me, the Dylan Croco bag is pretty much the perfect handbag, because it embodies my favorite trends in timeless style. The rock 'n' roll look of the bag beautifully interprets the current love of everything motorcycle-inspired and balances its edgy look with luxurious quality.

The two front zipper pockets look tough and raw against the background of the soft, washed lambskin, and the bright, goldtoned brass hardware really stands out against the black. I love the grain of the hand-pressed crocodile, and since it is actually made of lambskin, it has the added bonus of bringing the Dylan out of the exotic price range, and into the reasonable (about $545 retail).

The rolled-leather handle fits comfortably on the shoulder, and the bag sits nicely against the body. The 14.5" x 15" size is big enough to make it great as a take-everywhere bag, and it's hard-edged details will easily take you from jeans and a t-shirt to heels and a mini-skirt. The slouchy, crescent-shape of the bag makes it both ergonomically correct (it fits right into your curves), and pleasing to the eye.

The Dylan is a great choice for adding a hard edge to preppier styles, or for bringing that little extra to a look that is already heavy on the attitude.
