I can't really hide my love of Lauren Merkin handbags. This designer, in my opinion, consistently hits the target when it comes to offering women timeless styles with classy and sometimes unexpected features.

Lauren Merkin's most recently released collection of purses for the fall perfectly exhibits that statement. There are some familiar faces, new designs, but overall lots and lots of fun textures and prints. All you have to do is look at the above image to see a collage of the new colors and materials.

I know that many shoppers are looking for the next big thing when it comes to handbag shopping, but this designer stuck with some of her best styles with this new group. As with Be&D's most recent collection, Lauren Merkin brought back some favorites like the Tatum, Louise, and Eve. Each familiar style has been revamped with details like embossed ostrich texture, feather-patterned silk, and corduroy suede.

If I don't stop gushing about Marc Jacobs, people are going to start thinking that I'm a spy from the company sent to BagBunch to trump up his stuff. I'm not, I swear, and as evidence, here's a bag by Marc Jacobs that I hate. All that being said, the man is a genius, and this bag is proof.

It's also proof that you can incorporate a lot of trends in a design and still make it look wearable. The Sasha has all the black leather badassitude that I'm coming to expect from the fall season, plus asymmetry, plus zippers, plus sparrows? Yeah, they're not really a trend, except to people who are into psuedo-tattoo sort of stuff.

The slouchiness of the bag makes it look really downtown and ultra-hip, but all the pockets and pouches make it really practical. There's the front flap pocket, two front zipper pockets, and the main compartment. I won't even go into the inside, but it is equally compartmentalized.

I love compartmentalization, but this might be a bit much. I probably just wouldn't use the front zipper pockets. Well, maybe to hide an in-case-of-shopping-emergency hundred dollar bill. And the sparrows I could do without, but they miraculously don't bother me as much as I would expect. They're a little bit of sweet on a bag with a lot of sass. Maybe it needs that?

I'm all about handbags with interesting details, and Botkier sure loves to produce them. This brand seems to enjoy including as many buckles, zippers, studs, and other features as possible without taking its styles to a tacky, overdesigned place.

Some might consider this Uma satchel a little overdone, but I happen to like what Botkier's done with this one. Sure, the ruching detail is quite abundant on the Uma, but it certainly has a slouchy style all its own.

In addition to the ruched leather all around the bottom half of the handbag, there are also double buckled details on each handle anchor. Though they appear to be simply decorative, the buckles add a certain sense of structure to an otherwise completely relaxed silhouette.

Don't think that Botkier would leave it at just buckles and ruching though. There's also a zippered pocket on the exterior of the bag. It's not completely obvious due to the folds on the leather, but it's nonetheless practical for its existence. A detachable strap gives you a second carrying option along with the standard rolled leather handles.

The mayhem of New York Fashion Weekhas begun. Perhaps the buzz is even quieter than it has been in past years thanks to a continuing fashion recession (despite Anna Wintour's valiant efforts for revival at Fashion's Night Out), but it's still as interesting as ever to see what designers have been working on for the new season.

One designer getting just a bit of the buzz is Wayne Lee, Vietnam-born and fashion up-and-comer. Although I'm not at all familiar with the brand called simply Wayne, a peek at its Spring 2010 collection is more than enough to pique my interest.

Leggings, layers, and cut-out dresses were simple but impressive at the label's big reveal. The big news, however, is that Wayne, one of a few labels adding on accessories this season, has included a collection of handbags to its line.

The leather bag collection is starting small with only five silhouettes for now including a duffle and hobo. This sneak peek at a metallic shoulder bag has me interested to see more of the new line from this unfamiliar brand.

The luxury handbags this season are predominantly black, leather, and have some sort of stud or chain embellishment. Partly this is due to a resurgence of 90's styles - think Chanel Cavier bags with chain straps - and partly due to the fact that this season's runway styles are also predominantly black, and pretty edgy. Which makes this Chloé bowling bag very of the moment.

But, besides looking great with the rest of fall fashion, the Kira has an air of timelessness. I mean, really, when is black NOT in style? What interests me about this bag is that it's an edgy, luxurious take on a sporty classic. When I think of bowling bags, I think bright colors and, inevitably, stripes. Well, this bag borrows the bowling shape and makes it wearable for us less athletic types.

Wearable, and also practical. The huge size is actually big enough to hold a bowling ball, or basically anything else you might want to carry. The reinforced bottom means that, despite the suppleness of the leather, it won't fall apart easily. The interior contains a zipper pocket, but that's about it, and given its size, I wish it had more organizational options.

Looks-wise, the Kira is sleek and contemporary. But, it's a little biggish for the shape, and I'm afraid that it might get awkward to carry when full. Also, the removable shoulder strap is super skinny, which looks great, but doesn't bode well for your aching shoulders.

All in all, I like the Kira, but I don't love it. It looks good, and strikes a good balance between sleek and sassy, but for me it just doesn't make a bold enough statement.

Everyone needs a good weekend bag. Even if you don't travel on a regular basis, it's still important to have at least one mid-sized duffle with space to fit everything you need for a few days away from home.

One of the great things about this Tommy Hilfiger Explorer duffle bag is that it could work for either a man or a woman. Though I'm sure there are some women who would scoff at carrying a blue and white striped tote, there is really nothing decidedly masculine about this bag.

It is probably best described simply as a nautical-inspired duffle bag. It's nothing quite as overt in style as something like the Dooney & Bourke DB Sport Duck Tote, which has water-loving animals actually printed right on the bag. The Explorer, with its ticking stripe and dark brown trim, merely hints at that classic vacation-in-the-Hamptons look that Tommy Hilfiger often imbues into their creations so well.

That aforementioned dark brown trim is made from shrunken oil leather and outlines the top and bottom of the bag as well as connecting up the sides to the handles. Those two little straps are hardly convenient when carrying this size of duffle, though. The longer detachable strap makes toting the Explorer a less trying task and will suit you much better for quick runs through the airport.

Monica Botkier began designing handbags in 2003 after working in the fashion industry for many years. As a photographer, she was always in need of functional, high-quality bags that wouldn't look out of place in the high fashion world she worked in. And so, Botkier was born, and I couldn't be more thankful.

It isn't that often that I have the opportunity to review a handbag that I own, because truth be told, I just don't own that many. My taste is more expensive than my budget allows, and I am very very picky.

But this mini duffle captured my heart (and my wallet) almost immediately because of its undeniable good looks and high versatility. Held by the dual handles, it looks something like a tiny briefcase, with a classic vintage vibe, but slinging it over your shoulder gives it a slouchy, rocker look. 

The black lambskin is about as soft and supple as you can imagine, but all the buckles and straps give the bag an edgy air. I love the easy access front pocket; the clasp detail hides a magnetic self closure that makes getting to your keys a breeze. 

The two side straps aren't just for show. They tighten or loosen to give the interior more or less room, depending on your needs, and the shoulder strap winds through hidden loops on the bottom to make the bag into a super small satchel perfect for a night out. 

The interior is twill-lined, and contains a zipper pocket and three patch pockets for your cell phone, pens, and whatnot. The combination of organizational options and size variability on the Sasha make it an easy choice to take you from work to where ever in functional style. Priced between $260 and $525, depending on the color, the Sasha is a fabulous investment bag for women who want a lot of bag for their buck.

Fossil has gone back to the drawing bag and revamped its popular Weekender Duffel to create the Weekender II.

This is one of the louder designs, with fiery orange and yellow sunburst blooms clashing with a red and white diamond print pocket and tan trim. That look isn't for everybody, or even most of us, so Fossil take things down a notch or two with conservative tan and black varieties and an abundance of other prints.

The look isn't as important as what the Weekender II can do. It's a practical package, as appropriate for weekend breaks or sleepovers with the girls. Yet you may look for something larger, or use this as hand luggage, if you hope to take a longer getaway. It's a big bag, but it's not going to accommodate many outfits or pairs of shoes!

Limitations aside, it does what it does well. The cotton canvas is lightweight and durable, if not as luxurious as leather. The handles come with comfortable cushioned inserts and adjustable buckles. It all comes at a very reasonable $138.

Well, hello Upper East Siders, I spy a delectable leather accessory on the arm of Queen B. It seems that despite her romantic shortcomings, Blair Waldorf's fashion sense is as on point as ever. If you don't worship at the Gossip Girl altar like yours truly here then I may have already lost you, but it's in your best (stylistic) interest to read on.

Gossip Girl may be intended for teens, but it has the best fashion out there as far as I'm concerned. A few episodes ago, Blair Waldorf was spotted touring Yale with this fabulous Jardin Rose Framed Duffel in lipstick red, and I had the very weird urge to reach through my television, strangle her character, and steal her purse.

Seeing it in purple, I realize that it would have been completely justifiable homocide. The supple nappa is luxurious and the smooth grain of the leather suits the detailed feminine design perfectly. The gentle rouching on the frame top moves into more extravagent gathering on the body of the bag that not only creates volume, but also moves the eye to the center of the bag with its beautiful leather rosettes.

The generous 15" x 8" x 7.5" size might be a little too much for the dainty hand straps when full, but luckily there's a removable shoulder strap. The gold tone hardware provides a subtle, but rich contrast with the cool purple hue.

I really couldn't love this bag more. Unless, of course, I could afford it. But at $2,395 retail, this is one for the Blair Waldorf's of the world.

Picture the scene. You're packing for a cheeky night out, but don't fancy dragging your massive suitcase around. You can only fit a lipstick in your satin clutch, and your Coach tote is packed with work. What do you do?

This simple bag may be the answer to your prayers - large and spacey, yet retro and desirable. Shaped in the traditional bowler style, it is designed with packing in mind, and should happily fit a few days worth of clothing and a couple of books.

I am strangely fond of this bag. The bright green vibrant leather pays homage to famous sporting brands such as Dunlop, giving the bag a vintage and retro "old-school" feel. If this isn't the vibe you are going for, however, it is available in three other colors to match your personality.

There are no crazy embellishments on this bag. It keeps it simple with dark leather trim and strong reinforced handles; there are no decorations, patterns or ruffles. In one way, this is a disadvantage. After all, we all know that fringes are in, and that pattern upon pattern is so "vogue". From another point of view, however, this makes the bag much more of an investment. The color should cross seasons: bright for spring, yet strangely autumnal at the same time. Fashions may come and go, but this hold-all will still be loyally shipping you back and forth.

It may get shoved to the back of the wardrobe from time to time, but it will always be dragged back out again, as any useful and eternal bag should.
