We can look forward to many more gorgeous handbags and nutty comments from Chanel creative director and famous egomaniac Karl Lagerfield. One of fashion's most colorful characters told Germany's Freundin magazine he has no plans for retirement.

"Retirement is not one of the topics with which I deal. Why should I? I still have so many projects that I sometimes don't know where to begin. Chanel will still need some clothes when I'm 89," he said.

Of course I'm sure someone else could design those clothes if Karl were to step down, but it's not surprising to hear he doesn't entertain that thought!

There must be something about Chanel that compels folks to stick around. Coco Chanel never retired, so it's fitting that Karl Lagerfield is planning to do the same thing. He's already got 27 years under his belt, and he's showing no signs of becoming stiff or stale. So why not continue the legacy? Heaven knows any replacement would have some very big shoes to fill!

Though it's yet to hit the magazine racks, the Harper's Bazaar September issue will surely garner a few laughs thanks to its unique interview with Chanel big shot and ego-extraordinaire Karl Lagerfeld.

Any interview with Lagerfeld is sure to be a page-turner since this man has more quirks than you can count on both hands (who can forget the $1,000 Lagerfeld Steiff bear?). Well, now he's taking his insanity, I mean genius, a step further by adding a character to his repertoire of strange behavior.

For the interview with Bazaar, the infamous creative director and designer is stepping into the shoes of the original Chanel legend herself: Coco. With the recent Coco Avant Chanel craze, it's no surprise that fans of the label are craving more; I just wouldn't have expected Lagerfeld to fill in for her.

Though we have to wait until the magazine's release to be fully amused, Fashion Weed Daily has provided us with a short but hilarious snippet of the interview. Lagerfeld, as Coco Chanel, responds to questions about feminism, which he/she claims to never have been "ugly" enough for, Botox treatments, and Chanel fashion. Here's my favorite quote:

HB: What’s the new Chanel classic?
CC: As apparently my old jacket is still around, done by this idiot Karl, I have to help him find a new idea.

Lagerfeld talking about himself disparagingly in the third person. Now that's an article I have to read.

After much hype and industry buzz, we can finally feast our peepers on the new Chanel ads starring edgy pop princess Lily Allen. She's a self-confessed Chanel addict, but Lily's cheeky style was never a natural choice for the sleek fashion house.

Yet somehow it all works, with Lily's irreverent presence giving these ads a healthy dose of humor. Lily looks inspired by Audrey Hepburn circa Breakfast at Tiffany's with her diamond tiara, dark sunglasses, and sweeping up-do. But despite her vintage makeover, Lily is far from demure and her vivacious spirit shines through.

It's just as well, because the Coco Cocoon bag she carries is no ordinary Chanel purse. The reversible handbag is contemporary rather than classic, just like Lily herself!

I wasn't convinced when Lily was named the new face of Chanel, but now the results are in front of me I couldn’t be more pleased. Ms Allen may be just the girl to help the brand shake off the cobwebs!

Chanel's most recent resort show made its debut in Italy on Thursday night. The models sauntered down a casual outdoor boardwalk as guests watched from their wooden chairs in the sand.

The newest collection channeled old-world Venice in all of its glory. Female models wore retro bob wigs as they showcased the latest Chanel fashions. Striped knits were a big hit of the evening along with flowy prints.

The newest purses from the luxury label varied in size and style, all keeping with the vintage-like feel, though. Among the mix were ruched leather clutches, hatbox-shaped totes, and one particularly enviable and beach-ready striped handbag with a cut-out handle.

Karl Lagerfeld gave his thoughts on the evening's inspiration:

“Venice has a genuine dark and mysterious side to it that fascinated me. I really like the Italian spirit and the Venetian lifestyle,” said Lagerfeld, sporting a royal blue jacket, white shirt and skinny black pants. “And let’s not forget that Coco Chanel came back to Venice for 10 years.”

I must have missed the memo about fashion and transportation partnerships being the next big thing. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like it's collaboration station in the luxury designer world.

Versace teamed up with Lamborghini for the Murciélago LP640 Roadster and even created a special line of men's travel bags to complement them. Also inspired by the fusion of fashion and wheels, Chanel started with the quilted bag-adorned Segway and has now moved on to uncharted territory to create a Chanel concept car.

The brand joined forces with car designer Jinyoung Jo, from South Korea, to unveil the Chanel Fiole. The ultra streamlined design of the vehicle was "centered on simplicity of lines", something that Coco Chanel understood well.

The coupe is black and white and features a small interior with only three seats. The real icing on the cake, though, is the double-c Chanel logo adorning the front grille. I suppose anything with that emblem is sure to be a classic.

Valentino had the spotlight for the recent star-studded New York premiere of the documentary Valentino: The Last Emperor, which has continued on to open in several other major cities. Now it's Chanel's time to shine ... or at least movie star Audrey Tatou's turn at fashion film fame.

The French actress, who plays the lead role for the much-buzzed-about Coco Avant Chanel, cut quite a fashionable figure in a black-and-white floral bustier dress at the film's premiere Monday night. The movie opened in Paris at a Champs-Elysees theater to positive reviews, including much praise for Tatou's performance. One reviewer even raved about how the star "carries the film on her shoulder".

The Chanel fashion is, of course, one of the other stars of the film, which highlights the early part of Coco's life before her ascension to legendary status. Coco Avant Chanel will open to the public in France on April 22. No word yet about a U.S. premiere, but we can keep our fingers crossed!

Books and movies about fashion designers seems to be a growing trend right now. The book about Yves Saint Laurent's art collection is being published, the Coco Chanel film hits theaters soon, and Valentino is appearing on talk shows to promote the new documentary about him. Maybe an overall decline in fashion industry sales has caused a slight shift of interest from their collections to the designers' private lives.

The newest report of a behind-the-scenes peek into the fashion world is a book about Alexander McQueen. Photographer Nick Waplington is said to have shadowed McQueen as the designer went about the business of preparing his most recent Paris Fashion Week collection.

The book is rumored to be released sometime next year, although the exact date remains unknown for now. It will be interesting to find out if McQueen's inspiration behind the unique make-up and accessories choices for his Paris runway show is part of the project. If so, I can imagine big sales for this one...or at least tons of bookstore skimming.

A lot of buzz has surrounded the upcoming film Coco avant Chanel, and now we can finally see what the hype is all about with the recently released trailer.

The film, which stars French actress Audrey Tautou, follows the early years of the infamous Gabrielle Chanel. It will highlight the many difficulties and hardships she had to overcome, as biopics generally seem to go, before emerging as the legendary Coco.

Fashion will be one of the stars of the film, of course, since Chanel has become one of the most coveted labels for handbags, clothing, and more. Rumor has it that the movie ends with a grand runway show of the designer's most classic styles.

Residents of France will be able to see Coco avant Chanel later this spring while the rest of us will have to wait until later in the year. Judging by the juicy trailer, I'm guessing it will be worth it.

You just can't keep a good brand down. It might have sacked staff and cut short its mobile art exhibition tour, but Chanel is forging on ahead despite the economic crisis. As if to prove a point, the French fashion house has just opened a third Las Vegas boutique.

The store, located at the Encore at Wynn Las Vegas resort, is a lavish affair. It spans 2,400 square feet and carries handbags, ready-to-wear apparel and fine jewelry. The design mimics Coco Chanel's Parisian apartment with its woven gold metal finish and beige and gold interior. Luxurious touches include a fine jewelery boutique salon, a library, and a VIP room.

Girls with expensive tastes will love the one-of-a-kind diamond pieces currently displayed to celebrate the boutique's opening. I'm currently coveting the Pluie de Diamant necklace with its 10-carat, pear-shaped diamond centerpiece. You might not be able to afford it, but it's definitely worth a peek. Just make sure not to leave any drool on the Chanel countertops!

Industry buzz suggests Karl Lagerfield handpicked the former Mrs Mick Jagger to star as a sexy Cougar in his next handbag campaign.

The new commercials will apparently be based around the French novel Cheri. It tells the story of a six-year love affair between an older woman and a much younger man.

Jerry Hall will reportedly be wooed by model Baptiste Giabiconi. The luscious lad appears to be Karl Lagerfield's man of the moment, as he recently appeared in the silent film about Coco Chanel.

The ads may also give us a glimpse of Karl Lagerfield's new Vermont digs. His New England residence is thought to be the location for the handbag shoot.
