Chanel Creates Limited Edition 2.55 Handbag for Boutique Opening in Melbourne

Posted on: Nov 19

Among its architectural masterpieces and other urban attractions, Melbourne, Australia also boasts the largest shopping center in the Southern Hemisphere. Chadstone, or rather "Chaddy" as it is sometimes referred to by locals, is home to a various collection of shops that ranges from Target to Tiffany's.

The luxury fashion precinct of Chadstone is actually a new addition, though. The elegant boutique section includes Burberry, Gucci, Coach, Chanel, and more with other major labels rumored to move in soon.

Chanel celebrated the opening by releasing an exclusive 2.55 quilted lambskin bag, which contains a special plaque inside to commemorate the launch.

“It was created by Karl Lagerfeld exclusively for the launch of our new boutique at Chadstone, which opened on Wednesday,” Susie Stenmark from Chanel Australia tells us.

You'll have to be in Australia to get your hands on one, though. This limited edition handbag is only available at the label's store at Chadstone.

Karl Lagerfield Won’t Retire | Age No Concern to Chanel Creative Director

Posted on: Nov 18

We can look forward to many more gorgeous handbags and nutty comments from Chanel creative director and famous egomaniac Karl Lagerfield. One of fashion's most colorful characters told Germany's Freundin magazine he has no plans for retirement.

"Retirement is not one of the topics with which I deal. Why should I? I still have so many projects that I sometimes don't know where to begin. Chanel will still need some clothes when I'm 89," he said.

Of course I'm sure someone else could design those clothes if Karl were to step down, but it's not surprising to hear he doesn't entertain that thought!

There must be something about Chanel that compels folks to stick around. Coco Chanel never retired, so it's fitting that Karl Lagerfield is planning to do the same thing. He's already got 27 years under his belt, and he's showing no signs of becoming stiff or stale. So why not continue the legacy? Heaven knows any replacement would have some very big shoes to fill!

Claudia Schiffer Ready to Start Own Fashion Label | Possibly to Include Handbags and Cashmere Goods

Posted on: Nov 17

Claudia Schiffer's modeling career is still in full swing with advertising campaigns for Salvatore Ferragamo and Chanel, but that's not stopping her from venturing into a new branch of her fashion career.

After years of showcasing other designers' goods, Schiffer recently revealed an interest in launching her own fashion brand. She certainly wouldn't be the first supermodel to try her hand at designing, following in the successful footsteps of Kate Moss and Elle Macpherson.

The 39-year old beauty is reportedly considering including handbags and some sort of cashmere apparel in her new line and is looking for business partners to support the venture. Schiffer recently stated, however, that the most important part of the process is keeping the products meaningful to her:

"I want the brand to be timeless and classic, with a fashion sensibility ... Consumers are not stupid. They do understand if you don't believe in your product," she said.

Don't think that creating handbags and cashmere are going to keep her from posing for the camera, though. This is one supermodel who has no plans to quit her day job any time soon.

50 Unusually Bold and Bizarre Bags 41-50

Candy Wrapper Bag

This bag was made from candy wrappers that would have ended up in the landfill, which makes it not only super cute, but eco-friendly as well. It reminds us of the Capri Sun bag, but in a cute, pocket-sized coin purse version. It looks like there are many kinds of candy wrappers to satisfy everyone's preferences, and there are fun colors to boot!

Saddle Bag

This may possibly be the only saddle bag any woman wants. It's great for showing off a western flair and the perfect bag for true cowgirls. It also looks durable, which is definitely a plus. We just want to know how much it stores and how you carry it. Maybe you can just hold it by the horn. And don't we all wish it came with a free pony attached?

Behind-the-Scenes Peek at Claudia Schiffer’s Spring 2010 Campaign Shoot for Chanel | Karlie Kloss to Front Dior Campaign

Posted on: Oct 23

It's hard to believe that fashion labels are already gearing up and getting started on their spring ad campaigns, yet it's true. Gucci's poolside Cruise 2010 campaign was just a kick-off to the warmer weather fashion shoots heading our way.

After a recent announcement of model choices, Claudia Schiffer was spotted with Karl Lagerfeld on location in Buenos Aires for Chanel's spring/summer photo shoot. The team was seen flaunting about classic Chanel get-ups in Buenos Aires areas Monte Grande and San Telmo, although a little rain briefly halted the production. I guess they should be glad it wasn't a snowstorm.

Although not caught on camera, models Freja Beha Erichsen and Baptiste Giabiconi have also been confirmed for the advertising campaign.

In other spring fashion campaign news, John Galliano announced that recent runway favorite Karlie Kloss will be the star of Dior's ads for the upcoming season. No word yet on their location, but my bet is on something as balmy as Buenos Aires.

Win a Chanel Jumbo Classic Quilted Flap Handbag from Bag Snob and Portero.com

Posted on: Sep 29

Every woman could use a little Chanel in her handbag collection. Who wouldn't jump at the chance to nab one for their own?

Well, Bag Snob has teamed up with Portero.com to provide one lucky winner with a classic Chanel, a quilted twelve-inch classic flap handbag in black with silver hardware and chain straps. It doesn't get much more Chanel-esque than that. This is the type of purse that lasts a lifetime when taken care of and simply never, ever goes out of style. Plus, in versatile black caviar leather, there isn't much that this purse won't go with.

There are a few things to keep in mind about this contest sponsored by Portero.com, however. Portero is a "curated marketplace for pre-owned, authenticated luxury goods." That means that this Chanel bag is gently used. However, you can expect nothing less than from reputable website. Also, the contest is only open to residents of the United States.

To enter the giveaway, go to Bag Snob's contest page and enter your e-mail address to sign-up for the website's newsletter. Already signed up? Just enter your e-mail address to submit your entry. Act quickly, though. This contest closes tomorrow, September 30 at 11:59 pm (est).

Hermes to Acquire Asprey’s Bond Street Location in London

Posted on: Sep 28

Luxury brand Hermes seems to be riding over the wave of economic crisis with only a mere splash or two of disturbance. Somehow this label is defying the odds in a fashion industry that is simply trying to tread water.

With new stores and pop-up boutiques opening, Hermes continues to expand thanks to promising profits. It is furthering its fashion expansion with a new acquisition. Apparently, the brand is in the process or purchasing an auspicious location on the corner of London's reputable Bond Street.

The location is currently occupied by struggling luxury jewelry and accessories brand Asprey. Hermes will obtain the building and maybe even the business. Hermes wasn't the only luxury brand with its eyes on the advantageous spot though. Chanel reportedly had an interest in the London location before Hermes beat them to it.

Although acquiring Asprey's building sounds like a smart move and right up a booming label's alley, I'd be somewhat surprised to hear a confirmation of Hermes taking over more than Asprey's current housing on Bond Street. I suppose we'll have to wait to find out if the second part of the rumor is true or not.

Preview Chanel’s Fall/Winter 2009 Collection of Handbags | Exotics and Tweeds Galore

Posted on: Sep 16

When you think luxury handbags, Chanel is bound to be one of the brands that pops into mind. The fashion label is synonymous with timeless, must-have purses.

Although there are a few signature chain link straps to be seen here, a few of the detail might surprise Chanel lovers. Overall, though, the theme of cooler weather and winter fashion is fairly obvious with the styles from the colors to the choice of fabrics.

The most overtly fall fashion fabric in the bunch is tweed, and there seems to be a bit of it with this collection. The heavy material might be seasonally appropriate, but I'm not sure that the addition of a leather strap was the best choice. If I didn't expect gold chain link from the brand, the leather detail probably wouldn't be an issue. However, it just doesn't shine as much as I'd like.

Of course, it's not luxury designer fashion without some exotic materials. The fall/winter 09 bag collection also includes metallic lizard, quilted python, and pastel galuchat handbags. I'm impressed but not overwhelmed by the designs. However, Chanel is Chanel, after all, and nearly impossible to go wrong with.

Betseyville Party Hearty Overnighter | Betsey Johnson Quilted Weekender Tote

Posted on: Sep 13

Betsey Johnson continues to serve up nothing but the quirkiest, most whimsical yet stylish bags around. At least, that's my take on the designer's goods. Where some brands take whimsy to a tacky place, Betsey Johnson somehow manages to make it more kitschy than gaudy.

Her Betseyville range of bags is fun and not completely out of reach for bag lovers on a budget. This Party Hearty overnighter is what I'd expect from the designer plus a little extra pizazz. While its bold look might not be for every traveling gal, it's perfect for those who like to look dressed to the nines even when running to catch a flight.

The weekender-style tote's quilted satin fabric has a luxe appearance, but is a far cry from Chanel's signature classic material. The Party Hearty's quilted hearts add a punch of the unexpected to a formal fabric.

Most women in the market for a travel bag are looking for function in addition to style, though. I wouldn't call this Betsey Johnson Betseyville tote the most practical travel bag I've ever come across, but it does boast a decently sized interior. The chain link straps are probably the most impractical part of the bag, but that's easily taken care of with the adjustable and detachable shoulder strap.

More Features of the Party Hearty Overnighter

  • Measures 19 x 13 x 7 inches
  • Chain strap with 9 inch drop
  • Zipper closure

Marc Jacobs Flash Quilted Pony Skin Bag | Luxe Fuchsia Quilted Leather Shoulder Bag With Chain Strap

Posted on: Sep 6

I love the way Marc Jacobs interprets trends, old and new, and then reinvigorates them in modern downtown designs. Bags like this perfect pony skin bag are just what I'm talking about.

There has been a major rush lately for quilted bags. All those Chanel caviar bags have been making a comeback in a major way, and spawning rip offs from Bergdorf's to Kmart. This quilted bag, though, looks more like its doing its own thing. I have really never seen quilted pony skin, and certainly in not in an eyepopping shade like this fabulous fuchsia.

The square shape of the bag works perfectly with the square quilted pattern, and I also really like the way the square push clasps in the corners of the top flap mimic the overall square theme. The exposed zipper around the bottom of the bag is pure genius. Not only does it look good, but it allows you to expand the size of the bag, for days when you need just a tad more room. And, all the bright gold tone hardware accents and chain strap contrast beautifully with the cool hot pink hue.

I'm just crazy for this bag, and part of the reason is that while I can see elements that Jacobs has borrowed from the past and present, he's combined them in a way that looks uniquely of the moment, not to mention uniquely Marc Jacobs.

More Features Of The Marc Jacobs Flash Quilted Pony Skin Bag

  • 13" x 10" x 3" size
  • 7" handle drop
  • Khaki satin lined interior
  • Interior zip pocket
