Megha Mittal, the daughter-in-law of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, has purchased the bankrupt German fashion house, Escada. The iconic style brand was sold for an undisclosed sum, although the German press estimate the deal with was worth around 100 million Euros including the company's widely publicized debt.

Ms. Mittal beat out stiff competition from the M1 Group, Sven Ley, the son of Escada founder Wolfgang Ley, and St John Knits owner Vester Capital Partners. She made the purchase through a family trust rumored to be in the three-digit million range.

The 33-year-old Ms. Mittal is a mother of two with a degree in finance and a lifelong passion for fashion.

"Our first priority is to ensure that the great heritage of this iconic company is translated into a strong and successful future," she told The Economic Times in India.

It's expected that current CEO, Bruno Slazer, will retain his position during the transition. Ms. Mittal will act as a board member and ambassador for the Escada brand.

Inge Christopher is famous for feminine evening bags which channel old Hollywood glamour. So it's surprising to see the brand creating something as edgy and contemporary as the Greta.

This hobo has the crescent shape we expect, but it's a lot less slouchy. The structure comes from decorative seams dotted with edgy metal rings. From a distance they appear like short ruffles, but on closer inspection they're very rock and roll.

But Inge Christopher hasn't abandoned the hobo's bohemian sensibilities altogether. While the abundance of hardware adds edge, the long tassel hanging from the zipper pull brings just the right amount of hippie-chic.

The Greta is right on trend with its oversized design. It's almost too large to handle, despite a spacious zippered pocket and a few multifunctional slip pouches. At least you'll know where you left your cell phone and iPod, even if you can’t find anything else inside!

If you always felt Inge Christopher purses were a little too girly for your tastes, the Greta may be the bag that changes your mind.

The brand's Diesel and Diesel Black Gold collections will be shown over three floors. The label claims to offer more than 700 different denim styles and washes on every level. These famed casual fashions will sit alongside Diesel's handbags, fragrances, intimates, footwear, and more.

The megastore is designed by Diesel's creative team headed by Wilbert Das. He has used refurbished vintage wood, black steel, cast glass, and bronze to create the edgy space. Guests will also enjoy lounging on vintage furniture collected from around the globe. The contrasting textures follow an "opposites attract mentality."

Diesel Planet features many unique services which are sure to draw crowds. Customers can have the waistbands of their denim purchases personalized with their name or initials using laser-etching technology. And there are apparently "magic mirrors" which ensure your derriere looks good from any angle! Where do I find one of those?

Other services include onsite tailoring, Wi-Fi, e-commerce portals, wireless cash stations, and a "Power Shopper" program.

"It's the dream of each brand to open such an amazing store on Fifth Avenue! It represents one of the greatest goals for Diesel, the accomplishment of a 30-year dream as well as the beginning of a new adventure; this street is the most important shopping window of the world that gets me excited every time I come to New York" said Renzo Rosso, president of Diesel.

Diesel Planet is Diesel's fourth flagship store in the United States, and its seventh outlet in New York. It joins other Diesel Planets in Milan, Tokyo, and Hong Kong. Diesel Planet New York is at 685 Fifth Avenue.
